New to AirBnB, please see reviews for property #401099 on Vacation Rental by Owner.
Built on a bend of a small river valley and situated at the end of the “Path to the Sacred Spring' this truly astonishing villa is without question one of the most beautiful and tasteful accommodations in Bali, featuring a majestic, remote, very private and peaceful setting; the finest in design, construction and materials; and luxurious amenities. It contains three full baths, two of which are partially outdoors; three king-sized beds, a double and a twin; a two-story interior waterfall; and a fully-equipped modern kitchen. Marble, granite, and natural stone are used throughout, and over 25,000 man-hours have gone into to the hand-carved stone accents and intricately carved wooden doorways. Examples of many of Bali’s finest artistic endeavors are displayed.
Outside, the landscaped grounds boast a two-level swimming pool, large adjacent lounge/play area (with badminton court), intricately carved Balinese shrine, stone sculptures, fountains, tropical landscaping, and an uninterrupted view of the river valley. Surrounded by a high wall, a feature of traditional Balinese architecture, the house and grounds are completely private and blissfully peaceful, yet are open to the near-180 degree view below.
This house is your own while you are in residence. Staff arrives each morning at 8:00 (or at a time of your preference) to clean and cook breakfast, but the house staff, groundskeeper, and pool man are instructed to leave the grounds by 11:00 daily. In addition to the spacious pool and grounds, the house offers three entertainment systems including a flat-screen television with surround-sound (and a vast DVD library); a fully-equipped "gourmet" kitchen; a magnificent spacious and airy bedroom with indoor/outdoor garden bathroom (offering an outdoor bathtub and a bidet - both rare to find in Bali); a climate-controlled (NOT air conditioned) basement bedroom with entertainment system, multi-function weight machine, and full bath; and a "tower" office with DSL internet, desktop computer, and stunning 360-degree views.
Interaction with Guests
During the months the owner lives in the United States, he is instantly (subject to time difference!) accessible by telephone, internet, or text to answer any questions, offer advice, or solve any difficulty.
In winter and early spring (December to May) he is usually in residence in Bali, and can offer personal greeting and introduction to the property, or even a "bed and breakfast" (and other meals!) situation if desired.
This area of the village of Penestanan is a flat plateau composed largely of villas surrounded by working rice fields. It is a friendly, quiet area and is quite beautiful, providing iconic Balinese vistas, and is serviced by many inexpensive local restaurants and nearby spas and yoga venues. One of the two largest supermarkets in the Ubud area is but a five-minute walk from the rear gate, and the town itself is within walking distance or is accessable by easily available transportation.
"Transport", or taxi service, is readily available a short walk away: five minutes or so to the village center of Penestanan or an even shorter stroll to the supermarket on the main Ubud road. Should you choose to rent a motorbike or avail local motorbike "transport", the motorbike access ends at the villa's front gate (and because of this, there is no traffic to disturb the tranquility of the location).
Other Things to Note
The magnificent third-floor bedroom features a 23' ceiling, massage/yoga deck overlooking the valley, meditation area with open-air king bed off the deck, and wall-sized accordion glass doors. A massage table is provided from in-home visits by a local masseuse.
Rumah Cahaya was built as the owner's eventual retirement residence, and as such is fully equipped and provided with every imaginable convenience. Nowhere in Bali will you find such attention to detail in construction, decoration, and amenities; e.g., hair dryers are provided in all three bathrooms; mosquito netting (largely decorative, as indoor bugs are rare) around the master bed is designed so that one can walk around the bed within its walls; a house cellular telephone is provided preloaded with numbers of local restaurants, drivers, spas, etc.; Egyptian cotton towels and high-thread count linens were brought in from off-island, as they are relatively unavailable in Bali; the kitchen features every conceivable need: full refrigerator with freezer, four-burner gas range, coffee-maker, toaster, toaster-oven, microwave, blender (with coffee-bean grinder), rice-maker, kettle, French Press, etc.
There are also many valuable and difficult-to-find artworks throughout the house.
As Rumah Cahaya is a part-time and eventual full-time home, rather than a property designed for rental income, it is expected that guests will treat it as if it were their own, and return the care that has been shown in preparing and equipping it for their pleasure.
As mentioned, the area is tranquil and peaceful. Despite Rumah Cahaya's impressive entertainment systems, loud music at night is discouraged, except in the relatively sound-proof lower level (in which you can dance into the wee hours!).
This is a lovely villa. The gardens are beautifully landscaped and pool looks over a little gorge covers in palms and other tropical trees. The living area is spacious and pleasant and opens onto a beautifully positioned breakfast area. There is a master double bed, day bed and outside bed in the tower. There is also a bedroom in the basement but this is musty and I would not be prepared to us it. I would say that this villa us ideal for a couple - the perfect romantic getaway.
Rumah cahaya is a very nice villa
we enjoyed our stay and the swimming pool is really as beautiful as you see in pictures
Maya and Juli are very nice friendly and helpful. Breakfasts are very very good.
Everything is fantastic I just didn't like the room in the basement, that bruce calls theatre, becouse even if it is very beautiful you can feel the humidity becouse of the lack of windows.
I spend 4 nights in the villa with my family. we all sleept in the room upstairs which is hudge using also the outside bed, also becouse my children are not very old so I didn't liked the idea that they were staying in a room 2 levels behind us and with no windows.
I recomend this house and bali in particular becouse the people are nice friendly and everithing is easy.
thak you bruce for this beautiful place where you can feel all the love and the attention that the host put in every detail.
