About This Listing
Casa Cerca Del Mar is a comfortable 4 bedroom, 4.5 bath villa, with a warm private pool nestled in lush private gardens, all just steps from the beach.
CASA CERCA DEL MAR is only 100 feet from the Pacific Ocean. You can enjoy relaxing strolls on the sandy beach, swim in the family-friendly ocean bay, and return for a fresh-water dip in the privacy of your own pool. In the evening enjoy the unforgettable Costa Rican sunsets from the 2nd floor furnished balcony, or the 3rd floor shaded belvedere.
If you want excitement, a huge selection of activities are readily available: scuba diving, snorkelling, turtle expeditions, sport fishing, canopy tours, sunset sails...to name just a few. Costa Rica is famous for its diverse wildlife population. Monkey sightings are common, occasionally even from the pool at Casa Cerca del Mar!
If you are more inclined to relax, Casa Cerca del Mar offers a cool and comfortable home away from home, a place to enjoy the peace and serenity of a quiet setting and just sit and listen to the rhythm of the ocean waves!
The rental includes twice weekly maid service and daily pool and grounds maintenance. Enjoy the two sea-kayaks-- paddle out to explore the nearby islands, or fish for Wahoo, Rooster Fish, or Snapper in the lush fishing grounds of Potrero Bay. The ocean in front of the house is yours to enjoy!
Interaction with Guests
The property manager "Saioa" will be there to greet you and introduce you to the house. And she will gladly help with all your arrangements: From Liberia Airport pick-up to Zip-Lining, Snorkeling, and any number of spectacular Nature and Wildlife Tours
The neighborhood is safe and quiet, and the house is easy walking distance from grocery stores, fun restaurants, and night spots. Enjoy the swim-up bar at the Bahia Del Sol just a few minutes walk south on the beach, or stay up late dancing on "Ladies Night Wednesdays" at the Las Brisas nightclub and restaurant, just a few minutes walk north. Don't miss breakfast at The Shack or live music at Coconuts. Speaking of coconuts, our grounds keeper, Benito, will be happy to fetch fresh coconut water for you from the local palms-- watching him open them deftly with his machete is an experience you won't forget! And if you like, we can arrange a traditional Costa Rican chef for your party-- he will shop, cook, serve, and clean-up for as little as $10/plate while you enjoy the spectacular sunsets from the 2nd or 3rd floor verandas.
If you want a truly ethnic experience, there are public buses that stop just a block away and will take you to the city of Liberia or to the quaint town of Santa Cruz. Or you can enjoy our private but affordable shuttle service to the surf-towns of Brasilito (with its famous white beach "Playa Conchal,") or to Tamarindo where the waves and partying never end!! If you prefer, one of the local rental car agencies will be more than happy to deliver a rental car to your door. But there is so much fun to be had on foot that you might find you prefer to simply walk the beach to Flamingo, stopping along the way for drinks and snacks at some of the many beachfront restaurants.
Other Things to Note
You will find the high-speed wireless internet with Wi-Fi very helpful when trying to stay in touch with work (ugh!) or family and friends.
This is a no-smoking house! No pets are allowed without authorization. Extra guests (beyond 8) are $25 per night, per person. A $500 cash Security Deposit will be required on arrival and is 100% refundable pending house inspection on departure.
Saioa, the house tender, was very informative and friendly. We really appreciated all of her knowledge about the surrounding area with regard to activities, restaurants, grocery stores, shopping, beaches etc. The house was clean and comfortable and very enjoyable. The beach is just across the street where you can swim, jet ski, snorkel or kayak. Tom, the owner, was very generous to leave two kayaks for us to use. You can walk a short distance to a restaurant on the beach to have drinks and watch the sunset or have a lunch or dinner instead. Very convenient. The house also has a very clean pool if you get tired of the beach. The whole experience was very positive.
We loved our experience at Casa Cerca Del Mar. Tom was responsive and easy to communicate with as we worked to coordinate our travel dates. His local coordinator, Saioa, was warm, welcoming and very helpful to us. She steered us towards groceries, local restaurants, and an outfitter who arranged surfing, zip lining and fishing outings for us.
The house was wonderful and completely fit our needs. We were two families with 4 kids ranging in age from 1 yrs old to 12 yrs old. The beach was just steps away, the neighborhood was super quiet, and the beach was practically empty most days leaving us to feel like this simple paradise in Playa Portrero was for us alone! The pool was a nice added resource and was kept clean by a daily pool keeper.
Traveling in Costa Rica in late DEcember was great in terms of weather -- 88 - 90 degrees every day and lots of hot sun. It rained one afternoon for a very brief time but remained sunny even then. Even the bugs were not a problem -- barely used the bug spray we brought. The efficient air conditioners in every room were very helpful especially at night.
We did rent cars and although there are many Tourismo vans to hire it was nice to be able to drive to different beaches and the various markets based on our own schedule. Renting cars was easy but be prepared for the mandatory car insurance that Costa Rica makes you carry -- it added about $200 to our weekly car rental rate.
We had a great stay and although we did not meet Tom his assistant was very helpful. The house is very very close to the beach, and spacious. The kitchen was well stocked with lots of essentials that made cooking pretty easy. Overall was a great choice and would definitely come back.
Casa Circa del Mar is perfect! The property looks exactly the same as the photos and is kept immaculate by the housekeeper Sylvia and the Gardner Benito. The property is steps away from the beach and within walking distance of great bars and restaurants. Tom is a great host and was accommodating and responsive every step of the way. The property manager Saioa was a great resource and helped us coordinate all of our rides and excursions. We would highly recommend staying at Casa Circa del Mar!
For a small place, it has almost everything you need, from batteries to bananas.
This luxury beach side resort is the perfect place to stop for a drink at the swim-up bar, eat, or walk through the botanical gardens with one of the largest "Guanacaste" trees in the province.
This place is famous and infamous at the same time...started by a lone eccentric Canadian woman years ago, it has turned into a quirky drinking and dancing spot with live music and karaoke.
Owned by a fastidious New Yorker this restaurant serves delicious meals: I particularly like their breakfasts, with out-of-this-world homemade pancakes.
This is the famous beach-side restaurant for delicious "fish tacos" during the day, but at night on Wednesday's "Ladies Night" it becomes the wild and crazy dance hub of the entire region.
Known for serving "the best burger in Costa Rica" Maxwell's is a transplant from where it started on the famous Venice Beach, California. Enjoy the food, drinks, and socializing with crazy Americans
The food here is delicious! And it's just around the corner from an almost unknown beach with pristine cryst(email hidden)ater...Playa Penca. You can easily walk there.
This is a genuine family owned "Tico" restaurant with excellent food and critters (sometimes a big iguana at your feet, or an exotic parrot watching you from above). Located almost ON the beach!
Located overlooking Potrero bay the views from this bar are unbelievable. It's a fun place to dance too!
Fabulous location offering bar, restaurant, pool, and casino.
This hidden restaurant and bar are located on one of the most scenic bays in Costa Rica. The beach is sugar-white and the sunsets from here are out-of-this-world!!
This road runs along one of the most beautiful beaches in Costa Rica. If you look up into the hills at the north end of the beach you'll see a gleaming white mansion...used to belong to Liz Taylor!
This is an all-day stopping point. From here you can rent mountain bikes (try the local trails), learn to paddle board, or sit in the shade and enjoy delicious fresh cuisine and drinks. A must see!
This is the rough road you'll take to experience the "Conga Trail Zip-Line" about 30 minutes drive from the villa. After sailing above the jungle canopy, you can hold monkeys and snakes at the zoo.
