Great location
100% of recent guests gave the location a 5-star rating.
Acacia Cottage is a double-brick bungalow comfortably furnished on a very quiet road right opposite the Aldinga scrub reserve and two streets from the beach.

The space
You will be just two streets from Silver Sands beach, a pleasant five minute walk: Acacia Cottage is set in a pretty, shady garden with an enclosed back yard and cubby house. There is seating on the front veranda and a vine-covered patio with a barbecue and two outdoor settings. Wifi is available (NBN connected), and as well as a split-system air conditioner there is a large open fireplace. This is a serene haven for relaxation and recreation in winter or summer, and an ideally situated base from which to enjoy various holiday activities or explore the beautiful Fleurieu Peninsula. Sunset watching is the gentlest pastime.

Guest access
Local facilities and attractions include:
Silver Sands drive-on beach, reef and rock pools.

Aldinga Conservation Park: sand dunes, mallee scrub, bush-walking tracks, bird life, kangaroos and echidnas. A little further south is the Washpool Lagoon

The McLaren Vale region with its world famous wineries and gourmet eateries

Local cafes and restaurants such as the Aldinga Bay Indian Cafe, the local Breeze Cafe, The Star of Greece at Port Willlunga and the Victory Hotel overlooking Sellicks Beach with its Buddhist temple and towering statue of Kwan Yin. The Home Grain Bakery in Aldinga township is deservedly popular.

Aldinga Beach shopping centre, an eight minutes drive away, with a wide range of shops including Coles and Foodland, Subway, Pizzeria, Fish and Chip shop, Asian takeaway, cafe, bakery, pharmacy, and bottle shop as well as a spacious new library with a great children’s reading and games area.

The airfield, ten minute away, with joy rides and a view of the small planes from the veranda of the nostalgic thirties style homestead cafe.

The historic township of Willunga with its restaurants and boutiques and the popular Farmers and Artisan markets.

Further afield are Victor Harbour and Granite Island, Goolwa and the mouth of the Murray.

Other things to note
The cubby house has basic furniture, plastic toys and teaset.
There is an good collection of books and records (mainly classical and world music) plus a stereo record player.
The second shower in the laundry is set lower and is pleasanter for younger children to use.
The open fireplace has a sturdy fireguard.
The set of various board games and the DVD player could help pass the time on a rainy day.
You'll see various native birds come and go in the front garden especially if you keep the bird bath topped up.
If you follow the nearest scrub sand path uphill you'll have a view of the sea on your left and reach an outlook towards the Willunga hills.
At dusk the kangaroos are about and you may come across an echidna nosing around for ants.
There is very little traffic along this road and no street lights so we have starry starry nights.

Aldinga Beach, South Australia, Australia

Aldinga Beach is a relaxed, friendly neighbourhood and is particularly peaceful and relaxing in this niche between the scrub and the sea. Yesterday I met a kangaroo and her joey leisurely crossing the road to a strip of lawn. At the moment I have a honey eater nesting in a hanging basket on the front veranda.

I enjoy travelling, especially to France and the Mediterranean countries and learning languages badly is a happy obsession. I write poetry and run poetry workshops and have had several books published, including translations from Baudelaire's work. Gardening is a mixed pleasure but reading science fiction or history in the hammock under the vines is my reward.
