Bus Route Information

Route 16: Downtown Ojai - Pacific View Mall (every 1 hour)

Please check Gold Coast Transit for bus schedule detail.
Gold Coast Transit provides fixed-route bus services in the cities of Ojai, Oxnard, Port Hueneme and Ventura, and in the unincorporated County areas between the cities.

Ventura's location between the Los Padres National Forest and the Pacific Ocean, coupled with two of California's longest open flowing rivers, make for an ideal escape for outdoor adventure. Just off shore, the Channel Islands National Park is an all-natural playground for those interested in whale watching, hiking, camping, diving, kayaking through sea caves and walks led by naturalists.

The Ventura coast possesses its own vast stretches of beautiful, uncrowded beaches; popular surf spots; harbor cruises; a 13-mile coastal bikeway, as well as Ventura Harbor's festive shops, restaurants, family entertainment and the National Park Visitors Center. Meanwhile, Ventura's Historic Downtown Cultural District offers a mix of pleasing architectural styles in which you will find distinctive inns, boutiques, restaurants and antique shops.

Downtown also features an array of galleries, artisans and stage performances offering big talent in intimate settings. Historical highlights include Mission San Buenaventura, the Albinger Archaeological Museum and the Museum of Ventura County. City walking tours including the ever-popular "ghost hunts" are a popular activity. Discover a relaxed, eclectic and artsy side of California that you will not find elsewhere.

Ojai (OH-hi) is situated in a small, east-west valley about 15 miles from Ventura and the Pacific coast, surrounded by citrus groves, oak trees and the protective Santa Ynez Mountains. The town settles down into its valley like eggs into a bird's nest, giving credence to some people's contention that its name means "nest" in the Chumash Indian language.
If you've only got a day, take a leisurely stroll among the arcade shops and along the streets branching off from Ojai Avenue (which is also Hwy 150). You'll find art galleries, boutique clothing shops, several places to eat and the tasting room for Casa Barranca Winery, the first certified organic winery on the Central Coast.
For a little more active day, go horseback riding with Western Trail Rides or rent a bicycle from Bicycles of Ojai (108 Canada Street) and pedal the 16-mile paved path that runs from Ojai's Libbey Park all the way to the beach in Ventura.

You'll likely be done with Ojai after spending a full day there, so after breakfast on your second day, you'll have time for a leisurely drive home. Highway 150 going northwest toward Santa Barbara is a very scenic drive around Lake Casitas, through pastoral countryside and past avocado groves. From there, you could continue north on Hwy 192, skirting the eastern edge of Santa Barbara, then follow Hwy 154 north through the Santa Ynez Valley, connecting with US 101.

Take Hwy 150 the other direction and you'll climb to some scenic vista points overlooking the valley to Santa Paula, where you can take Hwy 126 back toward Ventura and points south or follow 126 the other way to I-5. Hwy 33 leads through the Los Padres National Forest and toward the Central Valley.

Whatever your passion, there's always something to do in Santa Barbara, which combines big city culture with backwoods outdoor adventures, all set off by a culinary tradition that puts its name and flavors on the lips of food and wine critics across the country.

Love the outdoors? Ride horses, wind or waves! Patron of the arts? Explore our galleries and year-round arts events. Shopping? Food? Wine? Wellness? Family fun? It's all here, to explore on your own or with guided tours, served up in a laid-back elegance that's distinctively Santa Barbara.

Founded by Danish-Americans in 1911, Solvang means Sunny Fields in Danish and has plenty of old-world charm and a definite Northern European feel (no passport required). Surrounded by the vineyards of the Santa Ynez Valley wine country, Solvang is a special gem in the heart of Santa Barbara County and California’s Central Coast.
No visit to Solvang is complete without enjoying a Danish favorite called aebleskiver–light and airy pancake balls (pronounced aye-bell-ski-ver). The name may lead you to believe there are apple slices inside—and in many places of Denmark, that is how they are served; but in Solvang, the tradition is aebleskiver dusted with powdered sugar and served with raspberry jam. Legend has it that when Vikings were roaming up and down the coasts of Europe they used their dented horn helmets and shields to cook their favorite pancakes—which turned out round!

The Chumash Casino Resort is located some 5 miles (8.0 km) to the east of Solvang in the Santa Ynez Indian Reservation near Santa Ynez. Opened in its present form in August 2003, the casino consists of a 94,000-square-feet (8,730 m2) gaming area with slot machines and table games. A 106-room hotel and spa opened in July 2004. In 2006, the Casino estimated that there were (phone number hidden) visitors to the Casino and 34,049 guests in the hotel, nearly all of them from Southern California.

  • Rex is very kind and gentle. The whole house has a very charming fragrance and the bedroom is clean and cozy. Also Rex's two dogs are very cute. We loved the stay here and Ventura is a very beautiful coastal town.

  • Rex's house is gleaming immaculate like new! And 3 blocks from the bus to
Ojai, where I enjoyed trout for breakfast! We ran into each other long
enough to say hi and bye as I just hit Ventura with a vengence. Oh yes, if
you go on First Friday, the location is quite handy to the Bell Arts
Factory on Ventura Blvd and worth following down to the "Beach" end to WAV,
the Working Artists of Ventura complex. Watch for the "Mad Men", a very dapper trio of cyclists making the studio rounds. Enjoy!

  • A series of unfortunate events some not in the host's control and some in their control prevented my stay to rise beyond ok.... overall, a nice location...

    March 2014
    Response from Rex:

There's a series of incidents beyond our control (late check-out and cleaning personnel issue). We appreciated that Amir reacted in respectful manner as we tried to solve these internal issues.
In return, we negotiated a term to another host and offered Amir a similar rate to ours for his next stay (our rate is the lowest around but booked on the dates he need).

  • Rex was a great host!

    February 2014
  • Rex was a wonderful host - he was courteous and welcoming; the trip was comfortable and convenient. It was easy to communicate with him (contrary to the experience below) and he graciously organized I a late check-in for us. His house is beautiful and well located. Would highly recommend.

  • Hi, I got frustrated about this host after the night of Feb 15th:
1-He gave me wrong address, house showing but he mentioned on bnb and my private message at . It took me 1h to find his property
2-I tried to call him at his mentioned number but it went through (website hidden) voice mail, showing host as a non professional person as we don't normally use (website hidden) number instead of cell phone number. I could not reach hjm after many calls on Feb15th
3-Finally I found the property after 1h looking but code has been changed, he mentioned but he changed before I arrived without any notice to me.
4-When we got in, the room has no key to lock. we could not leave any thing inside the room as per security.

I highly not recommend this type of host as per your safety during the night and waiting for his response.

    Dear Tuan,

This is a reminder that you have an upcoming reservation. We recommend that you verify the street address, apartment number (if any), and phone number with the host directly.

    Response from Rex:

Tuan got my address and contact number a week prior to arrival. A few days later, I sent another email and calls to remind him the address, key code and the house marker. He was unresponsive.

There was no calls on the day he suppose to be in the property. Arrived intoxicated after 11 pm with a male companion, Tuan did not say much and left again until am. There was no communication on their side when I asked if they need anything. Both of them left early on the next day.

Tuan and his companion left a deep large stains on my new tempurpedic bed. The bed was still wet when they left. The room was left messy. I had to replace the whole bed for the next tenant. Good thing Airbnb would pursue this!

In conclusion, this is a learning point as an Airbnb host. Thank's to Tuan I am learning another level of service.

  • We had an awesome stay with Rex - although we haven't even met unfortunately. He made sure that we have everything needed, I would stay there again, anytime. It was exactly what we needed: a clean, nice and quiet place where you can rest and make yourself at home.

    February 2014
  • We had a lovely stay with Rex in his very clean, quiet house, just a few minutes by car from Downtown Ventura and its great beach. Rex was very kind to us and made us extremely welcome; letting us use the kitchen and washing machine.
We would love to return one day and would recommend his house as a good place to stay at a very reasonable rate.

Hello there, Ventura is the place I call home, I came into that conclusion after traveling to many places. Great place for singles, couples and groups. Short drive to everywhere, beach life, close knitted neighborhood and small town. You also can't beat the sunny and warm weather all year, averaged at 70 F. Hotel phobia has caused me to decide to rent part of my place out. Clean towels, beds and pillows smell way nicer than the benefit of the doubt. The ability to use kitchen freely without to pay an extra bucks is also something. I keep a very clean and well appointed home. I'm the kind of Host that always available by phone or email for all my guests. Feel free to send me a message and I'll respond right away. When I'm not playing Host, I work as a civil engineer and a good family man. I tend to keep busy. I love traveling, and visited many places with my wife. If this is your first time, or millionth time, visiting Ventura, you can't find a better place to stay. Looking forward to hosting you on your travels.
