The Space

Modernised light apartment in converted granary. Small village in Pennines.

Internet access. Drive parking. Beautiful scenery.

Close to High Force waterfall, Bowes Museum and only 30 miles to historic Durham City. Good walks and on the Pennine Way - famous long walk in England. Local shops. Cosy pubs. Dogs welcome. Non smokers preferred. Steps up to flat on 3rd floor - no lift. Bath. No shower.

The apartment below me in the Granary is also on airbnb and this would mean that friends eg two couples could stay in the building at the same time.

I also have a small extra bedroom that can be used for one extra guest at a cost of £10 a night

Buses daily except Sunday and Bank Holiday. Mostly hourly.

Lesley's apartment below me in the Granary is also on airbnb and this would mean that friends eg two couples could stay in the building at the same time.

  • We loved our stay with Jane . We were made to feel very much at home and the 4 night stay passed far too quickly. A new area for us to explore - walking, ancestry research, meeting up with local friends etc in this area of outstanding natural beauty. The photos of the flat and description of all the area has to offer was what tempted us and we will definitely be back. Thank you Jane, you made our 1st UK airbnb stay so memorable . We loved sharing stories all about our travels and hearing about your busy life.

  • A delightful village! Jane immediately made us feel welcome. We enjoyed sharing her home which is only a five minute stroll from pubs, shops and other services. Great conversation and very knowledgeable about the local area. Our first Airbnb stay!

  • Jane was such a lovely and friendly host! The flat (email hidden) to explore the local sites from and really was a home away from home, would definitely recommend staying here!

  • Jane was lovely, the perfect host, really helpful and knowledgable. The flat is perfect - spacious and with some amazing views across the fields. There was everything needed for the perfect break. I would highly recommend staying at The Granary.

  • The stay at Jane's was short but very enjoyable. Very welcoming and interesting all round. We will happily stay there again if visiting the area. Lovely accommodation and lovely host. Thanks

  • This is a really lovely flat in a great area for walks and the extraordinary Bowes museum which is just down the road. Jane is so friendly and has such wide interests that within minutes I felt I had known her for years. A lovely experience, highly recommended.

  • Jane is a fascinating (email hidden) and the lovely accommodation gave me the best night's sleep in a while. We had fun exchanging hosting tips and stories and Jane was happy for me to cook and collapse in front of the TV while she went out. I just wish I'd booked a couple of nights so I could have explored the area more. Another time, I hope, and I look forward to seeing Jane up north sometime, too.

  • Beautiful home at the top of the building. I'm pretty tall so the beams could be a bit dangerous for me but other than that a wonderful experience. Talking with Jane was marvelous and we would stay there again in a heartbeat.

  • We stayed 5 nights in Jane's very comfortable and tastefully decorated flat while she was off on holiday, so we didn't meet her, although we would have loved to! It felt like staying in a good friends place. Her spacious bedroom and quality bed was much appreciated, many of the books lining the wall were familiar to us, almost like home from home. Her son welcomed us and helped with any queries, Jane was at the end of a phone and we stayed in contact via email. We explored Teesdale and Weardale, which offer much geological interest in very beautiful countryside. Highlights were the coral beds in limestone near Frosterly and walking part of the Pennine way to the waterfalls of Low Force, all new to us. We learned about the rare spring gentian and would love to come back to see it. Many thanks to Jane enabling us to have such a great time. We would happily come again and recommend her as host and her flat very highly.

  • It is my very first experience with Airbnb and Jane has made my first experience with Airbnb wonderful. Jane (email hidden)e made me feel home right after I arrived. She is very knowledgeable about the area. She gave me very helpful advice about where to visit with clear instructions. She is very considerate and even provided me with leaflets about the places. Jane’s place is really nice and comfortable. It was a great experience and I would highly recommend it.
