Interaction with Guests
I am interested in people and I love to chat with my guests. I am very happy to pass on information about the area and it's history.
It is a quite rural neighborhood. My neighbours are friendly and helpful. The beautiful landscape inspires me to to write. I am close to the wonderful of Listowel. Listowel has great shops, restaurants and cafes. Just as close is the beautiful beach at Ballybunion. I believe I am very lucky to live here in Kerry.
There are buses from Listowel that connect to the rest of the country. Tralee is only 30minutes away and has a train & bus station with good services to Dublin and Cork.
If driving, once booked you will see very detailed instructions on finding us.

Listowel ! After a somewhat hectic year having published my second collection Reflections from Time. As I drive from Dublni memories flood in of previous times. A chance meeting in the early morning as I took my final footsteps through Listowel. Hoping to capture the very essence of the place through my eyes and now at last sharing in print for all to see
Marian is a welcoming host, a lady, very interesting to meet as a published poet "Skyland". Her Country retreat is situated between Listowel to the East and Ballybunion to the West about 8 minutes by car. I felt very much at home, enjoying the hustle and bustle of Listowel combined with Country Living. I was able to catch my breath and relax. I enjoyed the extended family - the dogs!! Leaving with my bucket list in hand !! dreaming of my return visit Next time maybe doing some: Creative writing classes, a bog walk, Bird watching, a picnic on the beach, Golf (If I could play!!) Walking, Surfing, Dolphin watching or maybe a Holy well tour.
Enjoying breakfast while watching to the South Slieve Mish & Rattoo Round Tower and to the North Knockanore. Enjoying the spirit of Listowel !!!
Listowel, a place where creativity is never ending
As the road climbs in a sculpted bend to meet you
Two spears stand apart, neighbours now with settled differences
Nestled, and enshrouded with ivy, stands the Listowel Arms Hotel
Birds chirping in harmony, swooping “Failte” as they fly downwards, looping till they reach blue skies
Listowel’s elegance and art is interwoven with simplicity, like a basket or a simple doormat
A lone tractor passes without notice, as seen nowhere else!
Spilt milk from St Mary’s runs down the pavements to greet the guests of Listowel Writer’s Week
Bells sound in unison, as opposites attract, yet apart they still stand.
To recite for one moment in the presence of greatness where the spirit of word becomes immortal
The sang-froid of writers like Brian Mc Mahon, Brendan Kennelly, George Fitzmaurice, and Maurice Walsh in milieu
The memory of John B Keane lives on in spirit as one of the founding members of Listowel Writers Week. Pride lies deep in the people hearts as they pass his statue and guide the visitors to his namesake street. His legacy etched in minds for evermore as one of Ireland’s most prolific and respected literary figures
Time to part now, as the curtain closes
My heart longs once more for Listowel with poetry, stories humour and songs aplenty.
A friend found in Listowel is sure to return once again, yet again and again.
Staying with Marian is like being hosted by a good family friend who also happens to run an immaculate B&B! Her home is beautiful, but the real joy of staying here is chatting with Marian over her homemade scones and fresh squeezed juice.
If you stop by, it will be a highlight of your trip.
Where to start? Marian could not have been a more accommodating host. Kept in close contact before arrival and even drove to meet us and lead us to her beautiful home!
We chose this listing as we wanted somewhere just right to celebrate a special occasion, and it didn't disappoint. We received a warm welcome ( including tea and freshly baked scones ) and were shown to our rooms.
The house itself is every bit as romantic as the pictures suggest but Marian's gracious hosting, warmth and local knowledge ensure that any visit here becomes a truly enchanting experience.
Despite none of our group being vegetarian, breakfast was a delight. Organic freshly laid eggs, an abundance of fruits and berries, yogurts etc. all served in a elegant setting with beautiful mismatched china.
The ambiance of this home and the tranquil natural setting meant that even a night spent here felt like a retreat.....were it not for the night's craic we had with all the locals in Keane's pubin Listowell! Cannot recommend this place highly enough and look forward to returning with (email hidden)ank you Marian for a wonderful stay....
I came to Listowel for the writer's festival and I was so glad that I found such a wonderful place to stay. Marians very stylish house and the grounds were shown to best advantage in lovely May sunshine. Marian's hospitality was second to none. When I arrived she gave me delicious homemade banana cake and tea and introduced me to the the dogs and a cat. She sorted out lifts for me to get into town in the evening. She gave me directions for a run. She even looked after me whilst i was at the festival. The room was clean and comfortable and I had my own ensuite. I sprung my veganism on Marian at the last minute but she took it in her stride and sorted me out with a lovely breakfast.
I am now determined to try and win a prize at the festival next year so that i can go and stay at Marian's lovely house again.
This is an absolutely wonderful place to stay & one visit will bring you back again & again! Marian is welcoming and helpful in every way. Her home is immaculate while retaining a real homely feel and her attention to detail is second to none. We visited during some appalling weather when everywhere, especially the country-side, looks miserable. Marian's home was a genuine haven and once inside we had no wish to go anywhere else! The location is secluded but not isolated, being only 3-4 miles out of Listowel, but as in all rural areas, visitors do need their own transport. Marian is a vegetarian but her cuisine is amazing and we did not feel at all disadvantaged at breakfast. She also has 3 dogs and to those who are not comfortable with domestic animals, I will tell you that they are very affectionate but not intrusive. 2 cats wander occasionally into the house but prefer to spend most of their time outside. Marian has a real taste for design and with her jugs and vases of wild flowers everywhere, she has created a really lovely home. It was a privilege to share it with her. A well travelled and well read lady, Marian is originally from the area and is rich in the history and folklore of her native county. She is involved in several community projects connected with the Arts, so is a great source of information to visitors. She has recently launched a book of poems to coincide with Listowel Writers Week and it deserves to do well. We wish her every success and expect to be back with her in the near future, (that's if we can get a booking!) One more thing, as the roads are quiet with little traffic, there are lots of opportunities for walking around the locality and the beach is a short drive away.
