This Apartment was wonderful experience.
The location is a beautiful, quiet, West Village street. This neighborhood really is a prime location. Walking distance to Soho, and a whole plethora of delicious restaurants, cafe's, bars, and specialty shops.
The neighboring streets are treelined, with some historic brownstones. It has a wonderful vibe. Take advantage of the bike share, there are a few stations located just a block or two away. From there you can ride right down to the Hudson parkway.
The apartment itself is located on the top floor of an older walkup (no elevator). It is quiet roomy with high ceilings, an open kitchen area (perfect for cooking). A cozy nook with a dining table, a sitting room with a working fireplace, and windows that look out onto the treelined street and brownstones across the way.
The bathroom is on the small side, but very classy, with a nice clawfoot tub. There is a stacked washer and dryer just behind the entrance, and it was such a convenience!
There are two options for beds, one sits like a loft bed in the sitting room, the other is up the spiral staircase to the second level bedroom. There is also a half bathroom up there, and access to the roof. The roof has a large area off to the right that is completely private, and has the most amazing views. (empire state building, Chrysler building etc.) There are a few pieces of patio furniture, and you will find yourself spending more and more time up there throughout your stay. It is wonderful.
Vanja was an amazing host. He is very easy to get in touch with, was helpful, and always made an effort to make my stay comfortable. He has a beautiful apartment that you absolutely must try for yourself.
Really cool apartment, especially the views from the roof to which the bedroom has direct access. Vanja was a great host and very helpful.
Lovely apartment in a superb location. Several subway lines are closeby and the neighborhood itself is supercharming. The apartment itself is quite spacious and everything we needed was there. Also: great roof terrace!
Communication with Vanja was pretty easy. We could stay in the apartment until the evening of the day we were leaving, which was nice.
One con: the heating system in the building cannot be regulated. We woke up because of the heat a couple of nights.
Also I think it's important to note that guests staying here have to be fit: the apartment is on the 5th floor and the bedroom is accessed by a steep spiral staircase (which was fine for us but important to know for future guests!)
It's hard to imagine a better place for a stay in New York. The apartment is comfy, clean and, above all, perfectly located on a typically cute West Village street. As we were mainly interested in shopping, going out, dinning and strolling around in this area, this was the perfect solution for us. Some of the best and affordable restaurants and bar spots are just around the corner. Nevertheless, the street is very quiet ! Even if he wasn't there, Vanja was also very responsive and very friendly, offering to help with our stay in any way that he could.
So if you can miss your favorite TV show (there's no TV...) and you have good calves (5th floor...) , Vanja's apartment is definitely THE place to stay. I would and will highly recommend to anyone wanting to experience NYC !
