I'm very passionate about entertaining friends and family and hosting guests. My degree is in Architecture, however I don't get to use it in my professional life. Revisioning this bungalow was a dream come true. The remodel was to the highest possible standard, and completed with the thought, "where would I want to stay?" I sometimes call it 'the honeymoon suite' because I think it is intimate, private and fun. The perfect spot for a romantic get-away!
A private furnished patio is located at the front entry to the bungalow. A plant-filled common Courtyard Terrace provides outdoor dining for 6.
Interaction with Guests
I personally check-in guests, and give a brief overview of the amenities in the house, plus close by spots for coffee, groceries, dining and entertainment. I enjoy giving my guests an insider view on the neighborhood hot spots, convenient trailer eateries, and the best bars restaurants and bars nearby. Just knowing who has the best happy hour, or where to rent a bike and/or paddle board can enhance my guests overall experience.
The neighborhood has so much to offer, and I really recommend that my guests enjoy it on foot or by renting a bicycle. We are steps away from the art galleries and cool spots on East Cesar Chavez, like Cenote Coffee Shop, Bufalina Pizza & the Weatherup Cocktail Lounge. Additionally, the property is walking distance to both the Rainey Street Entertainment District & E. 6th Street. We are 4 blocks from the shores of Lady Bird Lake & the hike and bike trail that cuts through downtown, and will take you to Butler Park, Zilker Park, Barton Springs & to see the famous bats fly out at dusk from the Congress Street bridge. You can rent a canoe or paddle board along the shoreline, or a party boat for the most amazing night time views of downtown from Lady Bird Lake. For the business traveler we are 7 blocks to the Austin Convention Center.
There is a bus stop 1/2 block from the property which takes guests straight into downtown. However, you might wait longer for the bus than walking into downtown. The metro rail system is 4 blocks away. My favorite special treat is hiring a pedi-cab downtown to bike me home open air. It can be the perfect end to an evening out, plus we are one of the only residential neighborhoods where the pedi-cabs will take you right to your doorstep.
Other Things to Note
I love walking to Lady Bird Lake and renting a paddleboard, kayak or canoe only a few blocks from the house at The Alta Cafe & Austin Rowing Club Boathouse. Half a block from the house are fantastic art galleries on Cesar Chavez and Cafes and Coffee shops nearby at the Rainey Street District & the East 6th Street Entertainment District. I often walk downtown to listen to music, eat & drink. Or more often take a $5 cab ride (save my feet) and then bar hop throughout downtown and walk back home at the end of my night. Being the closest residential neighborhood to downtown, the pedi-cabs will deliver you after a night out open-air to your doorstep.
No smoking policy (except outside on patio/porch ashtrays are provided), No pets allowed on premise, early check-in or late check-out (maximum 2 hours) incurs a $50 fee, check-in or check-out exceeding 2 hours incurs a full day rental or forfeiture of security deposit based on owner's discretion. 2 people maximum overnight. 15% hotel taxes & $40 cleaning fee will be added to all reservations. Any violation of house rules will result in a full forfeiture of the security deposit. Any violation of city ordinances or Austin APD property visitations based on excessively noisy guests could result in guest removal from the property by owner and full forfeiture of the security deposit. Wet or used bath towels should be placed in the white plastic laundry hampers located in the closet. Wet towels are not to be left on furniture or bedding. Towels & linens are not to be taken outside to the yard or garden or off premise. Excessive noise disturbances from renter reported by neighbors, other guests in adjacent units or Austin APD will result in security deposit forfeiture. This property has two units: Main House & Back Bungalow which are rented separately and have a shared Courtyard. The courtyard dining table & chairs, plus additional lounging furniture located in the courtyard is shared in common by all guests/renters. The bungalow has one private furnished exclusive-use exterior space, the front patio outside the front door facing the backyard. When other renters are in occupancy of the bungalow the noise level on the courtyard and main house screened porch should be respectful after 10pm.
Lyon was the perfect host. He communicated with us prior to and on the day of arrival to ensure arrival and check-in times so he could be onsite to show us the space. Location was was great. Definitely within walking distance to most restaurants, cafe's and points of interest (all of which Lyon thoroughly highlighted).
Lyon greeted us at check-in, walked us through the grounds, and pointed out key features of the space. Speaking of which, the space is exactly as it is depicted in the listing, if not better! All the furnishings were updated and modern and the steam shower was awesome :)
We had a great stay and would highly recommend this to anyone needing a place to stay in Austin. We can't wait to come back!
Even though we were late arriving, Lyon was very gracious when he greeted us and showed us around. We were hungry and he directed us to a great place that stayed open late. The neighborhood was quaint and quiet, but still close to downtown Austin - perfect. The neighborhood has a wonderful coffee shop that we walked to for breakfast. The bungalow was cozy, comfortable, and nicely decorated. I loved the shower! Way better than staying in a hotel.
In terms of location and comfort, this was easily the best Airbnb we have stayed at in Austin or otherwise. The property feels secluded but is a few minutes away from the lake, downtown, and eastside restaurants and venues. Despite staying out late and traversing a lot of ground in Austin, we felt rested and refreshed after coming back to the bungalow.
Lyon was a wonderful host and his place is magical. I felt like I'd slipped into a little haven. I was here for a conference at the Convention Center. It was totally walkable, and I was very grateful to go home to a wonderful place each evening. And the steam shower is amazing!
Our stay at the bungalow was fantastic. We enjoyed our time and the area. We will definitely stay here again. Also our host Lyon was great!!

About the Host, Lyon
I love entertaining friends and family and hosting guests. I have a degree in Architecture but do not get the opportunity in my professional life to use it. Through property investments and renovations I get to utilize my design skills and attention to detail. I love remodeling properties and seeing spaces change. When traveling I like to splurge on luxury or historically interesting spaces. My hotel or residence, while out of town, must be relaxing and pampering. Traveling for me is all about experiencing the local culture and flavor, especially regional cafes & bars. The design and decor of my guest house was implemented with the thought, "where would I want to stay?"
High-end boutique for pottery & garden decor, gifts, etc.
Very unique Austin shop located in a 100 year old grocery store building.
Great for a cut and style nearby
Breakfast Tacos to go. Yummie!
Small convenience store with a great selection of beer and wine.
Excellent location for a business meeting. A new library with an extensive childrens book section (kids furniture too).
Part Art Gallery, part art book store and novelty shop. 100% Austin and a great quick stop for a hip experience.
Mexican style plaza is the location for the metrorail to downtown.
Vegetarian Bakery with a delicious lunch buffet. Healthy and affordable.
Tex-Mex. Great dinner and happy hour spot. Don't miss the back patio with a great view of downtown and Saltillo Plaza. The nachos compuestos can't be beat. Order a fishbowl sized margarita.
Tex-Mex breakfast & lunch. Excellent breakfast tacos and try the Migas & Fajitas.
This is what an urban coffee house and news stand should feel like.
100 year old house with a great remodel into a stylish and casual bar. Excellent list of cocktails and hip mid-century furniture. One of my favs!
Classic cocktails in a very creative space. Swanky and weird in a good way. Food menu is small, but organic and locally source with French & Gastropub leanings. Excellent but pricey $$. Go early!
Great scene on the patio and views to downtown, neighborhood feel, but very trendy and hip. Plus, G'raj Mahal delivers!
Tex-Mex Heaven! Dump of a building without much ambiance, but the cheesy goodness of the food is wor(website hidden)eer and margaritas available.
Some of Austins best Indian Food. But be warn, there is no interior dining room, its all al fresco dining. For a table inside visit Clive Bar where they will deliver your dinner.
Wine Bar. Probably one of the best tasting menus in the city. Very casual spot with some good small food plates to go with your favorite vino.
House is approx. a 6 1/2 block walk to the convention center
Tex-Mex breakfast and lunch only. The site of many FoodTV episodes. The Don Juan taco is legend. The chicken enchiladas and Con Queso Breakfast are winners!

Truly the gem of the City. Lush with huge trees and a hike & bike trail that links the neighborhood to downtown. Great spot for a picnic, a walk or a bike ride to other City Parks: Butler & Zilker
