Our tiny home started life as a commuter bus in Manchester, England, in 1953, then did stints in San Francisco and Mt. St. Helens before finding a home as the Grilled Cheese Grill in Portland. Now it’s been reimagined as a mid century modern-inspired tiny home, with whimsical painting details from one of its former lives and fresh new handmade details that make it a cozy, inspiring stay. The space
Step up from the deck into a beautiful Mid-century Modern -inspired, plant-draped entryway bathed in natural light.

The kitchenette is outfitted with a sink, induction cooktop, microwave, mini-fridge, kettle, French press, and cooking basics, and opens to a seating area wrapped in whimsical paintings that were a part of the bus’s life when it was the Grilled Cheese Grill here in Portland.

The bathroom boasts a handmade wooden door, raw-edge countertop, stall shower, composting toilet, and a view into the original driver’s cab. Composting toilets are not for everyone, ours is made by “Natures Head”, and is easy to use.

When you head up the original bus stairs to the upper deck, you’ll find a cozy lounge area with throw pillows and a queen-sized bed flanked by reading lights.

Outdoors, relax under cafe lights with beers in Adirondacks with the bright-red double decker as your backdrop.

A note about the ceiling height and doorways: Due to keeping the bus as close to its original shape as possible, some of our spaces are narrow and short. The door enter is approximately 6' tall. The entryway, kitchenette, and bathroom have more than 7 feet of height; the other areas range from 5' 8" to 6'. The door into the bathroom is approximately 18" wide.

And a note about our listing: Same backyard, brand-new unique project. Reviews you see that are prior to August 2022 are based on our former tiny home, which has been relocated. Reviews from August 2022 and later are based on the double decker bus tiny home!

Guest access
You have private access to the full space with deck, and access to the shared back yard. There is a small parking space for you by the house.

Other things to note
We love the food and drink scene here in Portland. Beer, breweries, vegan, and vegetarian options, the sky is the limit here. We are a partially vegan family, and are doing our best to help other vegetarians and vegans find the best places to stay.

My work: Brand Storytelling
Lives in Portland, Oregon
My kids and I love hosting guests in our space. I spend much of my time in my shop converting vans to help others live the #vanlife dream. In my past life I was a video editor, but I spend most of my time as a carpenter now.
