The Space

Please enquire about availability before making a booking request.
This charming apartment is conveniently located between the station and Piazza S. Maria Novella, a few steps away from the Duomo.
Situated in an ex convent dating back to the 16th Century, its walls are thick and guarantee a pleasant temperature even during the hot Florentine summer. In winter, the apartment is cosy and warm.
The apartment itself is 50 square meters, but the garden room provides an extra 25 square meters of space. The garden is more than 100 square meters.
The apartment's prominent features are the frescoed ceilings, the lovely antique glass doors, and the enclosed mediterranean garden, with tall palms, banana trees, an oleander, and even an orange tree. Almost all trees and shrubs are evergreen, so the garden is enjoyable in any season.
Access is from an internal private courtyard away from the street, so the apartment is very quiet and peaceful.
The apartment is unmistakably antique but the bathroom is new and the kitchen, with its original cotto floor, is fitted with modern appliances, including dishwasher and washing machine.
The bedroom, with a queen sized bed (190x160 cm.) is spacious and silent.
The sun room, provided with a pull-out sofa bed, opens onto the garden.
It is ideal for two people: particularly romantic for honeymoons and anniversaries. Gay friendly.
Due to the many glass doors, it is not suitable for very young children.

Guest Access

The apartment is exclusively for the use of guests. It includes the garden, the conservatory, and a storage room.

Interaction with Guests

We live nearby and are always available for any necessity. We enjoy meeting our guests personally and making them feel comfortable.

The Neighborhood

The location is great for sightseeing and for daytrips, as the station is very close. In a few minutes you can walk to all the attractions of Florence. There are many car rentals in the area if you want to go for a drive outside town.
We recommend a dinner at the Bistrò del Mare, on Lungarno Corsini, great location and excellent fish and seafood. If you like meat, dine at Osteria dei Centopoveri for fine fillet-steak. For a proper Florentine steak, go to the famous trattoria Sostanza in via del Porcellana. Have an informal "panino con il lesso" (boiled meats) at Nerbone in the Central Market. You will also find plenty of vegetarian dishes all around town, such as ribollita, zuppa di farro, pappa al pomodoro.
Have your "aperitivo" on the roof garden (with swimming pool) of the Minerva Hotel, right in Piazza S. Maria Novella, ot on the Baglioni Hotel terrace, both with stunning views.
The neighborhood of S.Maria Novella is rich with history. The church is probably the most beautiful monument of the renaissance with its original facade designed by Leon Battista Alberti. Palazzo Strozzi always offers exhibitions both of classical and contemporary art. The San Lorenzo market is an experience not to be missed, for everyday grocery shopping or for the fun of it. There is lots to discover in the neighborhood.

Getting around

Arriving by train is the easiest way to get here, and from here there is every possible way of getting around. You can take a local bus to travel around town, a train to go anywhere, a bus for Chianti or the seaside, a shuttle to the Barberino outlet, a bicycle to pedal everywhere, a rental car to go to the countryside....
Unless you want to get out of town, a car will not be necessary, in fact access in the area is restricted and surveilled by cameras. So if you arrive by car make sure you go and park in one of the garages in the area. Check out the site of the Comune di Firenze (section "mobility-driving" for more information).
The best deal for parking is Parterre parking in Piazza della Libertà, 65 euro for five days, 15 minutes walk to the apartment. Or the free parking at Ponte a Greve (15 minutes tram trip to the station).

  • Peter is a very good host. Peter's house is great and a breathe of fresh air with a garden right in the middle of Florence. Very near the train station, which was very handy. They even left us with provisions for breakfast, which was very welcoming. I highly recommend staying here, if anyone is in Florence.

  • We had a fantastic stay at this appartment. The location couldn't have been better. We were able to walk to all the main sites in c5 minutes. The courtyard garden is really lovely for breakfast outdoors or early evening apperitivi. The living accomodation is exactly as described; slightly quirky layout but very spacious. Peter and Julie were very responsive and gave some great recommendations of where to eat and things to do. Overall we loved our stay in this appartment and we are looking forward to returning. Highly recommended.

  • My wife and I loved this rental. It was a short walk from the SMN train station. Peter and Julie met us at the apartment, and gave us a thorough orientation to the unit and the neighborhood. The unit is just as lovely as it appears in the listing. Sitting in the garden was a delight.

I suffered a accident while in Florence, and Julie went our of her way to help us get medical attention, and followed up to make sure that we were OK. I would recommend this apartment withour reservation.

  • I had a great stay at Peter&Julie's! They were reliable, fast with response and super-friendly. The apartment itself was very well-located for both work and sightseeing (I split my week in Florence between these two activities), well-equipped and comfortable - if a little chilly due to an unusual cold spell late March. The garden is a true gem! Highly recommended.

  • ultimately, i wouldn't stay in florence if i didn't stay here. it is a quiet oasis, with the only green space in the whole city. a great flat. it is exactly what we expected - quite spacious, everything we needed, comfortable. the hosts are accessible and helpful. the location is convenient - close to the train station, great for arriving and departing with luggage. the neighbor hood is interesting in that it seems to be on the edge of tourist hell and real-people florence.

  • Wow, what a fantastic find in the heart of beautiful Firenze. Peter's flat is in the perfect location and a very easy walk from the main train station and close to everything you need to see in Florence. A great size apartment with easily enough room for the two of us staying there and the big garden is incredible to have in a city like this. Thanks again Peter and I hope to see you again in the summer.

  • This apartment is fantastic and it really helped to make our stay in Florence that bit more memorable. Peter and Julie are excellent hosts as well, very attentive to details. The apartment is perfectly located, within walking distance of the train station and all points of interest in the city. It retains all its original splendour and his been very tastefully decorated and equipped by Peter and Julie – it exudes vintage charm but boasts all mod cons. The lush garden is superb too and a rarity, apparently, in the middle of the city. We really loved this apartment and didn’t want to leave it or Florence.

  • Peter and Julie could not have been more kind and welcoming. The apartment was more than we could have ever imagined for our stay in Florence. The location was perfect -- conveniently located within walking distance of the Santa Maria Novella train station -- in a lovely neighborhood with many conveniences, restaurants, bars, bakeries, etc. We were in walking distance of just about every place we wanted to visit. The apartment is spacious, and even more gorgeous than depicted in the photographs with its high frescoed ceilings, amazing enclosed garden complete with orange tree, those beautiful windows and doors between the apartment and garden, the antique furnishings, and more. We especially loved the garden which had an awning so we could have coffee outside on rainy mornings and lights for sitting out long into the evening. The apartment was immaculate. The kitchen was very spacious and well equipped. The beds were very comfortable. With wifi, cable television, an excellent shower with plenty of hot water, we couldn't have asked for more. It was very difficult to leave. We are recommending this apartment and our hosts to everyone. Thank you for an unforgettable expereince, Peter and Julie.
