Private room with your own private bath, in a very quiet, non-smoking environment. New twin bed added 9/2014 (not daybed). We are located in the area between the city of Santa Barbara, and Goleta (UCSB), with easy access to either, and a nearby bike path to both directions. There are many beaches in the area and More Mesa Beach is a nice walk across the mesa to the bluffs and down to the beach.
Guests have access to kitchen, living room, dining room and patio for relaxing. There's a coffee maker, microwave and toaster oven available, and a selection of breakfast items.
Interaction with Guests
I like to allow guests their privacy, with friendly greetings the norm, but I happily provide information on Santa Barbara and Goleta points of interest, if asked. There are numerous maps and books in the room for guests to use and return.
It's a very quiet and safe area, with nice mountain views, and just a 20 minute pleasant walk to the beach across the mesa. You can walk for miles along the ocean on the bluffs. I have Santa Barbara guidebooks and maps for your use, and happy to answer any questions you may have. Bed in the pictures has been replaced with whitewashed pine headboard, foot board and a box springs/mattress. I will update photos soon.
Parking is right across from the home in a designated parking area off street. Free, of course.
Buses to either UCSB or downtown Santa Barbara are a 15-minute mile walk.
Other Things to Note
If you've been walking on the beach, please check shoes for oil from seeps and leave them outside or in the entry. There is a purple bucket with baby oil and wipes in the carport to use to clean your feet if you were walking barefoot. Please don't track in the oil/tar that the tides bring onto the beach and eventually onto your feet. (There's a chair in the carport for your comfort while you wipe off the oil using the baby oil and hand towels provided.)
Late arrivals after 10:00 p.m. generally not accepted. Please ask if this is needed due to late flight, and I'll try to accommodate.
This is a non-smoking home. No smoking even outside the home since smoky clothes and belongings are triggers to smoke allergies. No guests and no pets, please. Sorry, no laundry, including washing clothes in the shower. Laundromat is at shopping center, should you need it.
Please bring flat shoes for the house - high heels destroy the hardwood floors. Thanks so much!
2 suitcases and a backpack can be accommodated in the room, and no other storage is available.
Another wide angle shot showing a portion of the desk - day bed has been replaced with comfy regular bed!
It was great to stay at Ginny's house! She's a lovely and welcoming house and her kitty is just adorable!
I stayed at Ginny's place for 5 days. Ginny is very welcoming and willing to help. I had originally booked the room for myself but I had a change of plans and asked Ginny if my daughter could also stay for one night and she very generously offered us her couch.
The bedroom is peaceful, very tidy, clean and has got everything one can need during the stay. The bed is very comfortable and the bathroom just opposite the bedroom is also a plus.
The house is on a very quiet neighbourhood with pretty houses but no shops nearby. Only 10-15 minutes to downtown Santa Barbara by car.
Ginny has a lovely black and white cat that is very friendly and very cute.
Ginny was very accommodating and flexible about my arrival time, which was later than I had originally anticipated. Ginny was also very nice in storing something I left behind, and could not pick up immediately.
The room was nicely appointed and the bed was comfortable. The bathroom was across the hallway, but it was for my private use at night. This area of Santa Barbara is peaceful, being semi-rural, but this particular housing development has each unit very near to neighbors, so I could hear late night conversations. This wasn't disturbing, but it wasn't as quiet as I would have hoped.
I would definitely consider staying again, if I am in the area.
It was nice having you. Happy that you could pick up your left behind article yesterday, along with the bag I had put on top of it.
I would like to clarify, the bathroom was for your use day AND night - it's for my Air BnB guests, and I'm surprised that you may have thought otherwise - I have my own bathroom.
It was easy to co-ordinate my arrival time with Ginny and she welcomed me into her home with a tour of the kitchen, where she had breakfast cereals and teas laid out for me, my room and bathroom. There is nice separation of space between Ginny's area and the guest area. The neighborhood is very quiet, a lot of birds to hear. I found it useful to have a car to get around. Ginny's home is midway between Goleta downtown and Santa Barbara downtown. There is a bus stop a mile away on a major route that leads to both destinations--the walk would be very pleasant--there were always neighborhood walkers, runners and bicyclists--with some extra planning time taking the bus would have been very possible.
Ginny is quite active, so she leaves you to your own schedule. Ginny's home is very relaxing.
I felt very welcome in Ginny's home. It was in a quiet little neighborhood. Very peaceful. Ginny made a very detailed book with everything you needed to know about Santa Barbara. I found her quite pleasant to be around. She made sure I had everything I needed and did not hover. There is actually a newer bed than in the photos. It is a twin, so it wouldn't be so great for two people, but it was very comfortable. I felt very safe in this area. It was easy to get around.
I ended up going to Lotusland, horseback riding, the movie, and to the art museum. All four were in different directions, but I felt like I was close enough to all of them.
Her cat was very sweet and inquisitive. Keep your door shut if you don't want a kitty visitor.
Ginny is a super friendly and adorable host! The room and bathroom were neat and as showed on the pictures. It's a safe neighborhood and it's absolutely quiet at night - so perfect for some good sleep after a day downtown, at the beach or wherever spent in Santa Barbara. It's suggested to have a rental car due to the distance to the next busstop (there's parking just a couple steps away of the house).
I highly recommend living in Ginny's room and definitely would stay at her place any time again!
The room had all that I needed for my stay. There was also a computer which I didn't use but is a helpful addition. I didn't really see Ginny during my stay. She said I could use the kettle in the Kitchen for hot drinks which I did. It was nice to have DVDs you can watch in the room. Mesa beach is sweet.
About the Host, Ginny
Welcome! I'm a mature friendly, considerate female, living in Santa Barbara, enjoying all it has to offer, including being a grandmother to one sweet young girl. I've traveled a lot, and I don't have the desire to do a whole lot more, but I enjoy hearing of the visits others have made in their journeys through life. I'll welcome you, and show you breakfast items, and give you space, but if you want to chat, that is great, too. This is a quiet, safe location, close to the beach, and I know you will enjoy your visit.
