The Space

Hale Nani features 5 bedrooms & 3 full bathrooms on 3 levels. The kitchen is open onto the living room & dining areas, which have 16-foot high ceilings, and from there sliders open onto the very large wrap-around lanai that overlooks Kealakekua Bay. The home has a dishwasher, washer & dryer, a very well equipped kitchen, cable television, free Wi-Fi, and free local & long distance phone. The home is located 0.2 miles above Kealakekua Bay, and it’s a straight-shot 4 miles down the beach road to Honaunau and Two-Step. Both boast what is undoubtedly some of the best snorkeling in all of Hawaii . . . lots of live reef, fish, turtles, and dolphins frequent both areas. The neighborhood has a great market and many good restaurants to choose from, both higher-end and more casual. We’re 12 miles south of Kailua-Kona . . . Close enough to head in for some of the great restaurants or more touristy things, but far enough away to get a good feel for the "Real Hawai'i".

For the rental, we do a sliding scale based on the # of people and the length of stay. For a party of 2, the rate is $125 + tax (13.416%) or $141.77 per night for exclusive use of the home, based on a 4-night stay, and the cleaning fee for 2 people is $100. For larger parties and different lengths of time, let me know your party's situation & I will send a personalized offer.

  • We enjoyed our trip and this home very much.
I do wish the inside stairway was accessible to us since it rained our first two days there quite a bit. Also, guests should be aware that there is only one washcloth per person for the week, so guests may want to bring some cheap throw away ones if they need more and don't want to do laundry. Another suggestion would be to add stepping stones from the driveway to the stones surrounding the bottom floor since we were greeted by one of the poisonous centipedes when we arrived.
But the house and surroundings are beautiful. We slept well, enjoyed the rooms and the landscaping and would definitely ask to rent this home again if we get to return to this island paradise. Thank you for allowing us to rent and stay in your beautiful home.

  • We stayed here with a group of eight adults (all in our late 20s - early 30's) and this house was great for our group. It's in a quiet neighborhood a little off the beaten path and just a short walk down to Kealakekua Bay. The house was clean and spacious, the kitchen was well stocked with cooking supplies, the beds were comfortable, there was a washer and dryer, and there were plenty of beach towels for us all to use. We did not actually meet Gregory, but check-in and check-out were easy and he was easy to reach when we had any questions. Oh, and you'll have plenty of adorable gecko friends.

  • What a lovely house! Perfectly located with a fantastic view over Kealakekua Bay, the house is ideal for a large group. We were a family of 8 adults, so the 5 bedrooms was perfect for us. The house has everything needed including a big barbecue and lanai, perfect for dining outside or just enjoying the view. It only takes 10 min to walk down to Kealakekua Bay, perfect for kayaking and snorkeling (we spotted a manta ray when we went snorkeling near the Captain Cook Monument!). We would definitely come back here!

  • We had a lovely time at this house with our three adult sons, two grand children, one daughter in law and one girl friend. The house is very comfortable and well appointed. We grilled dinner on the deck every night and spend many hours just relaxing. When we got motivated, we kayaked and snorkeled in the bay, took the kids to the nearby sandy beach at ho'okena, stopped by Jake's BBQ or the South Kona Fruit Stand. We snorkeled with dolphins twice. This private setting is a little taste of old Hawaii, with many of the comforts of the modern world. The Big Island is full of great sights from the volcano to the Waipino Canyon. The new saddle road highway makes a trip to Hilo easy and beautiful, by the way.

  • Greg and Michael were wonderful hosts leading up to and during our stay. They were extremely responsive and provided us detailed directions in reaching and accessing their home, even when we arrived late at night. Their home is absolutely stunning and was more than enough space for the 6 of us to share. We loved the location and view of Kealakekua Bay and how the morning sun would greet us each morning from the upstairs loft. They even left us a list of places to eat and things to do nearby to their home, including a delicious lunch spot and farmer's market. Will definitely be staying with them again the next time I go to Kona!

  • This place is off the beaten path but perfect for a family or other large group! It's about half an hour to downtown but there's lot of neat shops and restaurants closer by. Not to mention some great beaches for snorkelling! The house is very comfortable. Everything works great in the house and the 3 bathrooms are quite spacious and appropriate for sharing.

  • This house is fabulous. It's a little off the beaten path but that's exactly what we were looking for - we were so enchanted by this area and can't wait to come back. It has a very neighborhood-y feel and you can walk down to the bay for kayaking. The house itself is lovely and beautifully done - the kitchen is incredibly well stocked and the lanai is perfect for hanging out in the evening and watching the sunset. I didn't actually get to meet Gregory but communication and getting me all the info I needed was easy.

  • Can't beat the value (October rate) for this 5 bdrm 3 bath home! Great location, clean and roomy. Beautiful venue to enjoy the sunset and to star-gaze. All appliances and the bbq grill were in good working order so eating in was easy. The neighborhood felt safe, and the beach boys at Kealakekua Bay showed us (and everyone else) much aloha, even if we rented kayaks from somewhere else. Greg was very responsive to my many questions and he seems to take a lot of pride in what he does and in managing this particular property. Very professional. The only constructive comment we had was to have the knives sharpened occasionally (sharpener is well worn). Other than that, a great stay! Highly recommended!
    Mahalo Greg!
