We had such a lovely stay with Lucrecia and her daughter Silvia! We had two people and two large dogs staying in the room. We kept our luggage in the closet and felt we had plenty of space. Lucrecia offered for us to keep our dog kennels in the garden to make sure we had plenty of space but we opted to keep them in the room. We stayed for 4 days and she was extremely helpful everyday. She made us delicious breakfast and we had fun showing each other pictures of our lives! We don't speak much Spanish so Silvia helped translate while she was there, while she was gone we enjoyed learning with Lucrecia, she was very patient and would speak very slowly for us. She gave us information about where to shop, eat and walk our dogs. She said we were the first guests to bring dogs (two large dogs at that) and it all went very well. The dogs had space in the front garden to hang out while hers hung out in the back garden. We will gladly stay here again, hopefully after we know more Spanish so we can share even more stories!
This is a simple and safe place to stay in a convenient location near Lincoln Plaza mall and the bus to San José. As many previous guests remarked, Lucrecia provides lots of personal attention in a family atmosphere.
I stayed here on 2 occasions while transiting through San Jose. Lucrecia's daughters are lovely and fluent in English, so it was easy to communicate when they were around. Lucrecia herself is warm and welcoming, but somehow I couldn't understand her Spanish at all (even though I got by fine even in remote villages with my half Spanish). So when the daughters weren't around, it was rather exhausting to communicate.
I could have used a bit more space in deciding what to do and how to get around. During my second stay, I had a flight to catch and asked for a taxi, but Lucrecia insisted I take a bus as it is much cheaper. That got delayed, and in the end she called me a shared taxi to the city centre to catch a bus from there - which took a lot of time and detours and almost the same amount of money as a normal one. I got so delayed that I ended up taking another taxi to the airport and paying more in total! My point is, I appreciate that she was trying to save me money, but all I wanted was a relaxed journey out and actually catch my flight - and well, the space to decide for myself.
So while the location and breakfast are nice, and the room is decent for a short stay, stay here only if you speak excellent Spanish and have everything pre-planned.
Tremendous homecooked meals provided, and a lovely room in a quiet neighbourhood. I was made to feel hugely welcome and Lucrecia and I managed to communicate, even though I can't speak Spanish and she can't speak English!!
My experience with Lucrecia was so special. Lucrecia and her daughters are so warm and friendly. Lucrecia is a great cook and prepared such good food. The room was private with a private entrance and a key to come and go freely. This is an excellent family to stay with . I look forward to staying with them again upon my next visit.
We made the best choice for our relocation to Costa Rica, because Lucrecia treated us like family THE 1st NIGHT. We we exhausted from an extended flight and had no strength to hunt for food, although near by. Despite the language barrier, she understood and offered us her dinner, an introduction to a traditional Tico Soup.
The pictures are true to the accommodations. The surrounding neighborhood felt very safe and very convenient to buses. To top off the humble accommodations, Lucrecia offered breakfast (just as others have shared) that was so delicious and lots of laughter. When Silvia wasn't there we used (website hidden) Translate to communicate difficult sentences but somehow understood her and had great convo. The internet connection was VERY stable and that's a big deal in Costa Rica homes that made so much easy to plan and conduct business. It was like being with family in a home filled with so much love to it's guest.
She and Silvia go above and beyond being "Hosts", they answered questions and extended their hearts. If you are looking for luxury with tons of amenities, this may not be for you but we desire the comfort. We got exactly what we desired and would recommend others to start a journey like ours here.
