Centrally located within 3.5 miles to the U of A, downtown, and historic 4th Avenue.
Home is located one mile off I 10 in a nice quiet neighborhood.
Recent Improvements June 2014
All locks to bathroom and master bedroom have been modified. People in the master bedroom can now lock up their belongings and people from the Unattached room will no longer be accidentally locked out of the bathroom as there is a key hanging outside. There is also a new outdoor sink and mirror by the outdoor shower.
Welcome to Tucson. If this ad describes what you are looking for please email me. I hope you enjoy the wonderful desert here and the unique flavor Tucson has to offer. I also rent the master bedroom listed as 'Environmentally Friendly Home'.
I am looking for renters who have a fun loving nature and are conscious of their carbon footprint. If you have a communal spirit but also like your privacy my home may be a good place for you to stay. I welcome all lifestyles and ethnic backgrounds. What is important to me is that you can communicate with my dog and understand that animals, like humans, can have their own quirky behavior. She loves people but barks at you excitedly when you come home and sometimes (as she is 91 human years old) barks again when she forgets you were already home. Once you greet her again she is back to loving you. Saying a hello, petting her and telling her to go get her toy also works to minimize the barking.
I have an unattached room in the privately fenced back yard available. The room is completely furnished and has air conditioning. You need to come into the main house to use the bathroom. You also have use of the living room, dining room , kitchen, and yoga/exercise room comes with the room rental. This is a one bathroom home with an additional outdoor composting bucket toilet (which some people with the camping type spirit prefer to use), outdoor shower, outdoor sink with mirror, outdoor stove, and outdoor bath tub. Outdoor water is the same as using the indoor water and I prefer people showering outside especially when the weather is nice. This is a smoke free.and TV free home. We watch movies and other shows on our computers (WI FI is included). Essentially this ensures a quiet atmosphere for everyone. However, this doesn't preclude the social dinner when it suits you. I am a very young 62 yrs of age woman and I enjoy good wine, good food and good friends.
The back yard is totally private and has a wonderful soft and calming energy. The bear claw bath tub tips the scale for a relaxing and stress free evening.
This is an environmentally friendly home with cisterns to collect rainwater for plant watering. Systems are in place for the outdoor washer, shower and bath tub to feed the trees and plants, thus all natural organic products are used in the outdoor systems. These products are provided for your use while at my home. There is a solar hot water heater with a backup 'on demand' system which means there are times that the system needs to be switched over (just a matter of turning 2 valves).
There is a superb courtyard with unique shops, excellent cuisine and live music 6 nights a week. It is 5 blocks away from my home. Music ends at 10pm as it is located in a residential district. It is called Monteray Court.
Add $5 per night for double occupancy
No cigarette smokers please.
Check in times are between 2pm and 7pm unless previously agreed upon times are arranged. I will only extend the check in by 2 hours.
Bus transportation is 3 blocks away. It takes 1 bus to go to 4th Ave or downtown. From downtown you can pretty much get anywhere in the city on the 2nd bus. Current cost is $1.50 with free transfer or a $3.50 unlimited day pass.
Airbnb Policies I try to get around
They block phone numbers and websites so don't bother to try sending them. This I understand because they are the middle man collecting the money. However, it is very hard to find their own phone number so you can call to get live help. Unfortunately they even block out their own phone number when I try to spell it out for you. I do not require a photo to book with me but I know airbnb is pushing for this.
Also, the cancellation policy is strict but in reality I will refund any nights that I am able to book to someone else prior to your booked arrival date should you need to cancel.
Guests have access to the entire home excluding my bedroom and back mud room. Guest enter and leave through the front door and are required to lock it at night.
I love my neighborhood. Most of the homes on my block are inhabited by their original owners or their children. This makes for an automatic neighborhood watch type system. I am amazed at how peaceful the neighborhood can be even though their are so many dogs here. Seems like they all get quiet at the same time. Mostly a blue collar working class neighborhood also seems to follow the unwritten rule of lights out by 10pm. Weekends are the exception of course when some of us may be having a late night party.
Easy access to bus system. Located 3 to 3.5 miles from historic 4th Avenue, downtown and the U of A. Easy bicycling to these places as well. Bus is $1.50 with free transfers. Bicycle rental from me is $3 per day. You are required to fix any flats you get.
Other Things to Note
Monterray Court is 5 blocks from my home and has an excellent venue of music in their outdoor courtyard 6 nights a week. The restaurant is moderately priced with a good selection of salads, sandwiches and specials. Full bar with beer flights on Fridays from 5-7. Live music starts at 6 or 7 and goes until 10pm as this is a residential neighborhood.
No smoking. Plumbing is narrow and strainers need to be used in the kitchen so food doesn't clog up the pipes. When using the inside shower you may need to pull hair out of the strainer in the drain so that the water flows freely. Please be respectful of others and wear headphones if watching a movie while others are in the home. I will often just mute my movie when people are coming and going through the home or put my headphones on. Please leave all breakfast dishes on the counter as I prefer to do all the dishes at once. If you are cooking an elaborate meal for dinner you are expected to clean dishes within the hour. If it's just a few dishes you can leave them for me to do. I do everything I can to minimize bugs, flies and ants. I like my home clean and pest free. Thank you for observing house rules. Namaste.
I had a short but very nice stay at Marcy's. The "unattached room in peaceful backyard" was an accurate description. Small but comfy. Marcy was a great host . Neighborhood was good with easy access to public transportation. Would definitely stay again.
My experience with Marcy was excellent. The room was very clean and pleasant, and Marcy was a great host.
This was a wonderful room in an almost private hideaway. Marcy was a most gracious host and though we were in and out a lot, we really enjoyed her company. The neighborhood is a little barren but within short distance of lots of fun places. All in all, it was a great place to be!
The room was peaceful and quiet, the neighborhood is convenient to a major north/south arterial (Oracle Rd) as well as Rte 10 and Rte 19. There's a corner store and an inexpensive restaurant and even a liquor store, all a short walk away. Marcy is very helpful if you need help and hands-off if you don't. I only used the kitchen to make tea, but it's a great convenience to be able to use it if you need it. The outdoor shower is delightful and very private. This place is a great deal.
Marcy was a fabulous hostess! I really enjoyed spending time with her and her sweet dog as much as the program I came to Tucson for.
The accomodations were great. The room was cozy, had an AC if it was needed and a nice outdoor shower. Communal dinners were a lot of fun. The house was clean, neat and in a good neighborhood.
Marcy does a great job attending to the needs of here guests. I felt she went out of her way, and went above and beyond what I was expecting to attend to even small needs I had. I felt very well taken care of and felt that I got much more value than the price suggests. I would definitely stay here with Marcy again!
Cute little room with an artsy spin. Very eco friendly place. Host was very nice and offered recommendation of a great neighborhood restaurant.
Marcy was very welcoming in her peaceful eco-friendly home. The shed was so cozy and the temperature was just perfect at night (in March). We got through a 16 hour drive from Austin, TX when we arrived to her home and she offered to put out a hammock for us to take a nap on (fits two people!)That was such a treat! Also, if you get a chance, take an outdoor shower with nature. You won't regret it!
