About this listing
Centrally located within 3.5 miles to the U of A, downtown, and historic 4th Avenue.
Home is located one mile off I 10 in a nice quiet neighborhood.
Minimum rental is one week for $175. Four week rental is $550.
My home is a peaceful space focused on environmental sustainability and a love for nature. Solar hot water, rainwater collection cisterns, grey water systems connected to the outdoor shower, bath, sink, and washing machine which water native plants and citrus trees, low water use, and recycling are some of the ways that I reduce the use of natural resources at my home and nurture the environment. Native plants in both the front and back yard attract local wildlife such as birds, butterflies, hummingbirds, and lizards.
I have a list of elements that cannot be introduced into the grey water system and I can email that to you. I do provide products that you can use during your stay here but if you choose to use your own please check your products to make sure they do not contain the harmful elements. This relates to the outside shower and sink.
I provide thick warm robes in the winter time so you can go out to the shower, turn hot water on and wait for it be the desired temperature while staying warm in your thick robe. I shower outside all year round and even in 40 degree temperatures the shower is nice and hot. I have watched many people who were at first skeptical turn into outdoor shower lovers.
The inside sink is connected to the main sewer system so this is where products like shaving cream can be safely used. We will be adding an indoor shower in the near future.
I am looking for quiet and peaceful people who love dogs, nature and respect mother earth. The AC can be run between 70-75 degrees but please turn it 75-77 degrees when you are going to be away for more than 2 hours.
If you have a communal spirit but also like your privacy my home may be a good place for you to stay. I welcome all lifestyles and ethnic backgrounds. I will be dog sitting from time to time so I want dog loving people to rent here.
This is a smoke free and TV free home. We watch movies and other shows on our computers (WI FI is included). So if you are watching a move while windows are open and other people want to enjoy the peace and quiet in the back yard, please wear head phones. Essentially this ensures a quiet atmosphere for everyone. However, this doesn't preclude the social dinner when it suits you. I am a very young 62 yrs of age woman and I enjoy good wine, good food and good friends. I also enjoy biking, hiking and ballroom dancing. I am open to communal dinners once a week if that suits you.
The back yard is totally private and has a wonderful soft and calming energy. The bear claw bath tub tips the scale for a relaxing and stress free evening.
There is a solar hot water heater with a backup 'on demand' system which means there are times that the system needs to be switched over (just a matter of turning 2 valves). This also ensures everyone of hot showers as we never run out of hot water.
There is a superb courtyard with unique shops, massage therapy, excellent cuisine and live music 6 nights a week. It is 5 blocks away from my home. Music ends at 10 pm as it is located in a residential district. It is called Monterey Court.
Add $5 per night for double occupancy
No cigarette smokers please.
Check in time is after 2pm. I will give you a code for the box that has your key in case you are late and I am already in bed or I am out.
Bus transportation is 3 blocks away. It takes 1 bus to go to 4th Ave or downtown. From downtown you can pretty much get anywhere in the city on the 2nd bus. Current cost is $1.50 with free transfer or a $3.50 unlimited day pass.
Airbnb Policies I try to get around
They block phone numbers and websites so don't bother to try sending them. This I understand because they are the middle man collecting the money. However, it is very hard to find their own phone number so you can call to get live help. Unfortunately they even block out their own phone number when I try to spell it out for you. I do not require a photo to book with me but I know airbnb is pushing for this.
Also, the cancellation policy is strict but in reality I will refund any nights that I am able to book to someone else prior to your booked arrival date should you need to cancel.
Guests have access to the outside kitchen, outside shower, sink, stove, bath tub. They also have access to the half bath inside the home from the back door.
Interaction with Guests
Some guests want company and some want solitude. This is the same with me depending on my mood. When we feel like a movie or dinner together we do it. I will check in on my guests to ask if everything is okay.
I love my neighborhood. Most of the homes on my block are inhabited by their original owners or their children. This makes for an automatic neighborhood watch type system. I am amazed at how peaceful the neighborhood can be even though their are so many dogs here. Seems like they all get quiet at the same time. Mostly a blue collar working class neighborhood also seems to follow the unwritten rule of lights out by 10pm. Weekends are the exception of course when some of us may be having a late night party.
If you are accustomed to or are expecting a gentrified neighborhood or gated community my home is probably not the best fit for you.
Tucson is a progressive city when it comes to water conservation. There are many programs, non-profits, and city incentives focused on minimizing the use of our precious water resources. It can be surprising to people visiting from non-desert environments to see that most yards do not have grass lawns, but as locals we see this as an important aspect of water conservation. You would be surprised at how much effort homeowners put into keeping what might appear to you as a barren gravel or dirt yard tidy and weed free! Hopefully you will appreciate the years of effort and greywater use that have gone into cultivating the lush native plant landscape of my yards :)
Easy access to bus system. Located 3 to 3.5 miles from historic 4th Avenue, downtown and the U of A. Easy bicycling to these places as well. Bus is $1.50 with free transfers.
Other Things to Note
There are several great dining options within walking distance. For inexpensive, authentic Sonoran Mexican food check out Taqueria Juanitos, El Guerro Canelo, or one of the many food trucks in the area. Monterey Court is a great option for happy hour, live music, drinks, and dinner. Monterey Court is 5 blocks from my home and has an excellent venue of music in their outdoor courtyard 6 nights a week. The restaurant is moderately priced with a good selection of salads, sandwiches and specials. Full bar with beer flights on Fridays from 5-7. Live music starts at 6 or 7 and goes until 10pm as this is a residential neighborhood.
I can recommend several other great restaurants within a 5-10 minute drive.
Do not run AC or heater with windows open.
No smoking. No loud music. If watching a movie while sitting outdoors please use head phones. Also, if your windows are open and other people want to enjoy the peace and quiet of the back yard please use head phones. Wash dishes after every meal or at least put them in bin to soak. This will minimize bugs and insects. Close gate when leaving and entering the back yard. Be kind and loving to the dogs I sit for during your stay.
Nothing other than body waste and toilet paper allowed in toilet. The toilet and sink are connected to an ejector pump which is buried outside. It will get clogged if anything other than body waste and toilet paper is put in it. Yes, this even means dental floss will clog it. The clog will happen within days and you will be charged your deposit if we have to hire a plumber.
Marcy was a great host, very welcoming and helpful. The little room in the backyard was perfect for me, private but still with access to the house. Very nice place to stay, would do so again!
Marcy was an incredible host. She helped me in many ways throughout my stay, and I felt lucky to find this spot. You can't beat the price, the outdoor shower, the adorable dog friends, and the easy environment Marcy has built. Would gladly return!
Host is rude and intrusive. When I arrived I was led to a small shack in the back yard. The room was a decent size, however the bed was on the floor, not even a bed frame. It was extremely dusty and smelled like moth balls. I opened the two small windows in the room in an attempt to rid the tiny room of the awful smell. A few minutes later Marcy knocks on the door and barges in the room yelling about having the windows open with the tiny a/c unit on. If you need to use the restroom it's inside the house. That was not made clear in the ad. She is very environmentally friendly which I admire but asking to not flush the toilet if it's #1 and not flush the tp or throw out any of the trash so that she could pick through it and recycle is just plain gross. The only nice thing is the outdoor shower but that has rules. You can only use her soap and shampoo (no conditioner allowed or provided) The last night I was there I couldn't sleep so I stepped outside for a bit. I saw her bedroom light turn on instantaneously. The next morning I was woken by a text message from Marcy saying "your friend didn't shut the shower off right and it was leaking" I did not have anyone over there and was appalled by the accusation. Then she sent me another message saying there would be a charge of $5 per day for the extra person. I paid this lady $200 to stay in her room for 4days. She acted like she was putting me up for free. Those 4 days I avoided being there as much as possible. I would not recommend this place.
Wow I was so shocked to get this review. We talked every day and one the second day I revisited her complaint of the room being stuffy and asked if there was anything I could do for the room. I offered essential oils. She declined. No one had ever complained about the room being stuffy before.
But let me start by sorting the truth from the lies.
I let Annabelle do a late check in. She arrived around 10:30. I went to take my outdoor shower around 11pm. I noticed she had the windows open while running the AC. I knocked on her door and when she opened it I merely said 'You have the windows open while running the AC.' She said, 'I know. It's just for a few minutes because the room is stuffy.' I did not have to say another word because she said she would close the windows right away. I did NOT raise my voice nor ENTER her room.
I do ask all renters to put the recycle material in their waste basket in the small room where yes, there is a box spring and mattress on the floor, and I will sort it out each day. This is easier for me because I know which items are recyclable in Tucson and I like to wash or rinse them before putting them in my bin. I do not find it gross to pick out bottles and plastic ware from the trash. But, hey, that's just me.
I NEVER tell renters how to flush the toilet. All renters use toilet paper. This part has no truth whatsoever. If a renter asks me if it's okay for them NOT to flush for the pee I tell them whatever way they want to do it is fine with me.
My check out time is 1pm. Annabelle was still in her room at 12:50 so I knocked on her door. She did not answer and I heard a male voice so I thought she had a guest. At 1pm I texted her to remind her of the check out time. I did also say it would be $5 more for a guest and that the shower water was left dripping so please check on that when you shower next.
The part about me turning on my light at the same time she went outside is totally possible because I get up several times during the night to pee.
As I said, we talked everyday and I did not feel any animosity coming from her so I was indeed shocked to get this review. I gave her an excellent review because I thought our communication was clear with no bad feelings. Guess I was wrong. But the lies are unacceptable to me.
Marcy was very nice and helpful. The outdoor shower was really nice and the room was nice and cool despite the summer heat! Thanks!
A quiet little sanctuary in a quiet neighborhood. cozy room with AC. but open the windows if you can and enjoy the morning air and the birds.
a good place to write or read, gather your thoughts.
I was only in Tulsa for about 13 hours, but my stay made me feel so at home! Loved the outdoor shower. Small but clean, cute, and cozy
