The space
This is a peaceful space focused on environmental sustainability and a love for nature. A solar photo voltaic system, rainwater collection cisterns, grey water systems connected to the outdoor shower, bath, sink, and washing machine (which water native plants and citrus trees), low water use, and recycling are some of the ways that we reduce the use of natural resources while nurturing the environment. Native plants in both the front and back yard attract local wildlife such as birds, butterflies, hummingbirds, and lizards.

If you enjoy your privacy and the opportunity to meet other travelers this space might be a good fit for you. There is one other Airbnb room and a longer term renter lives in the front section of the house.

This room is a great fit for people who enjoy the outdoors. The room is cozy (90 square feet) and includes a double bed, a small desk, and a small dresser. There is additional storage space in a large weatherproof bin on the patio. There is also plentiful outdoor space to enjoy including a private patio. In the backyard you have access to an outdoor shower, bath tub, and sinks that are all plumbed with hot water. These amenities are shared with the other guest room.

The outdoor kitchen is shared with one other guest room. It includes a gas stove, microwave, blender, dishes and cooking utensils, bins for storing dry food, toaster, coffee grinder, french press, and a table. The silver outdoor mini fridge is for your private use - the other guest has a mini fridge in her/his room. The black mini-fridge is shared with the other room.

You also have access to a shared full bathroom through the back door of the main house. You share the bathroom with one other guest room which is located directly across the hallway from the bathroom. The bathroom requires an ejector pump to function which means only human waste and toilet paper can be flushed down the toilet. Everything else must be put in the trash (floss, feminine hygiene products, condoms, paper towels, etc) or the pump will get clogged requiring a plumber and the loss of your deposit.

There is a fenced, private patio area behind the room. It is shaded for most of the day with some afternoon sun. Yoga mats are provided and are stored in the large brown storage bin in front of the room.

Free parking is available on the street in front of the house. There is also a shared parking spot in the driveway on the right side under the mesquite tree. It is shared with one other room on a first come basis. The carport parking spot is reserved for the long term tenant in the front section of the house.

There are certain ingredients found in many conventional bath and shower products that can't be used in the outdoor shower, bath or sinks because they are harmful to the plants that the grey water system waters. I do provide products that you can use during your stay, or I can give you a list of the prohibited ingredients. You can use any products you would like in the indoor bathroom.

There is a washing machine located in the backyard. It is part of the greywater system and the water drains to the outdoor plants, so I provide bio-compatible laundry soap. There is a shared clothesline for drying clothes, and a collapsible drying rack in the large storage bin in case you prefer to dry your clothes on the private patio. There is not a dryer.

I am looking for quiet and peaceful people who are conscious of their carbon footprint. Please make yourselves comfortable, but don't run the AC or heater with windows open, and turn them off or to low when you are out.

No smoking is allowed in the room or backyard. You can smoke on the front sidewalk or front section of the driveway.

If you are watching a movie on your laptop or listening to music in the outdoor common areas or while your room windows are open, please wear head phones to ensure a quiet atmosphere for everyone.

Bus transportation is 3 blocks away.

Where you’ll be

Tucson, Arizona, United States

It is a diverse working class neighborhood. If you are expecting a more affluent environment or gated community this home is probably not the best fit for you. There are two churches, a park, an elementary school, mini markets, and several restaurants all within a couple blocks.

I came to Tucson in 2002 and immediately fell in love with the Sonoran Desert. I love to hike and explore the outdoors so let me know if you are are looking for a good outdoor adventure!

I love exploring new places, meeting locals and other travelers, and experiencing how locals live. This is the first house I owned and it has a very special place in my heart. When I travel I love finding unique places to stay that offer both privacy and an opportunity to meet other travelers. I am excited to offer my home to travelers so they can experience a sustainable approach to desert living that balances communal living and privacy.

I live 3 miles away and am available to help answer any questions you have and make sure your stay is comfortable.
