The Casita is 450 square feet, with an open floor plan with a great layout and separation of spaces. Full kitchen, simply, elegantly and comfortably furnished, with dishes, pots, pans and basic condiments, shower only. Saltillo tiles, exposed adobe, wooden cabinets and ceilings. Wifi on premises. You also avail yourselves of the barbecue, back porch and hammock as well or take a few camping chairs down to the river for a splash in our desert beach. This is an amazing corner of New Mexico and we are happy to share it with you.
Interaction with Guests
The Casita sits on our property behind our house. Your front patio looks onto the backyard behind our house. We can interact as little or as much as you like...you can have complete seclusion, if you like, or hang out with us when we are around, typically working on the property or having some food and wine at day's end. Some guests have joined in, just to get their hands "dirty", harvesting from our garden or learning about traditional agricultural practices in New Mexico. Or we can go for a hike up the street or a swim in the local pool, if you like.
Our 'hood, La Puebla ("the Village"), is considered a Traditional Community because it has been inhabited for over 100 years. Our property had a Native American presence prior to Spanish times, as evidenced by the pot shards and corn grinding tools we have unearthed here. It is a residential rural area with easy access to Santa Fe, Taos, Los Alamos and many wonderful northern New Mexico attractions.
You need a car to fully enjoy this area. There is public transportation nearby, but a car is needed to access it. We are happy to ride share back and forth to Santa Fe as we work or go to school there most days of the week, and believe in minimizing our carbon footprint as much as possible.
Quasi-gourmet, mostly vegetarian meals beyond the provided self-serve breakfast can be provided for an additional modest fee. Please note that for stays longer than 5 days, breakfast is not provided. All the tourist info you require is free of charge and graciously offered. No smoking is non-negotiable, otherwise we ask that you respect our beautiful antique bed, by sleeping as long and as deeply as you like, and enjoy this getaway with all your heart. You can bring, and kennel, your dog on the property for an additional daily fee.
I can't say enough warm things about Julie & Scott and their family. I was immediately accepted into the fold and treated as a welcome guest. They are VERY much "mi casa es su casa," and every time I returned back to their magical land I felt home. I visited the cows and horse every morning, my dog was free to roam wherever she wanted and treated with love- heart warmingly so by their kind sons- and I could be a part of the land goings ons or privately read and work on my writing. A short walk away are endless acres of enchanted badlands, for jogging, walking, meditation, and they aren't like anything else I'd ever seen. They are wonderful people who become life long friends, proud New Mexicans who share the spirit of freedom and family.
Julie and Scott were amazing from start to finish with my process of moving across country for 3 months. I could not have asked for a better location or host family. Everything was as described and was a wonderful accommodation for myself. All amenities were included and they were willing to provide anything that was not available (which everything was there that I needed). I feel very blessed to have found this sweet family and I will miss them dearly!
Julie and Scott were most gracious hosts, helping us with whatever we needed and always arriving with an excellent sense of humor. They even left us fresh flowers on the table! The house was very clean when we arrived and everything worked as expected. The surroundings are gorgeous and very relaxing, with tall shady trees and a sweet river nearby. We loved the land so much that we decided to get married there and rent the casita as our base. Thank you so much Scoot and Julie for your kindness and excellent service. We hope to see you again soon!
We had a lovely stay at the Bennett's casita. The casita was well equipped, clean, and comfortable. We especially appreciated the perfect breakfast fixings and the area information/suggestions! The entire Bennett family was super thoughtful and generous---wish we could have stayed longer. The Bennett pets were great, too. To future guests: we recommend visiting Ghost Ranch, Ojo Caliente, and nearby Chimayo.
July and Scott are terrific hosts. They seem warm and inviting, but have no problem giving you space. Their suggestions for restaurants, tourist sites, and general things to do have been perfect. They are a wealth of information about Northern New Mexico and they haven't steered me wrong yet.. My daughter is coming to stay with them soon as is my husband. I don't believe anyone will be disappointed.
Julie and Scott were warm and friendly. They were helpful with information about the area and were concerned about my well being while staying in the casita. The casita is small and cozy, and contains everything necessary for a short or, as in my case, long stay.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay with Julie and Scott in the adorable casita. It was so peaceful. Scott recommended a beautiful drive through the mountains and a great picnic spot at Sipapou ski resort and we really enjoyed the hike Julie recommended in Bandolier National Moument and our drive through the forest. Valle Caldera was stunning! We look forward to returning one day when we have a longer time to visit!

About the Host, Julie And Scott
We are an easy-going family of three. Scott is a salesman in the automotive industry and I am a museum and interior designer currently working as a sales representative at Santa Fe by Design, a plumbing and hardware showroom. Our younger son is a student at the Santa Fe Waldorf High School, and an aspiring large animal veterinarian. We share our house with Bella and Bodhi, feline and canine, and they love our guests without being over-bearing.
We spend a lot of time taking care of our land and also enjoy hiking, skiing, the arts, good friendships and all the cultural activities in this area. We are happy to help get you acquainted with all that northern New Mexico has to offer, even some activities which are not readily accessible to most tourists. Yoga studios, no problem, foodie interests, we have you covered, the arts in all its local iterations, hiking and biking destinations...even fly fishing pursuits can be supported during your stay. And we are happy to give you a tour of our riverfront property and either explain or demonstrate irrigation practices that date from the Spanish settlement and introduce you to our horse and cows. This is an authentic northern New Mexico home and community...a friendly glimpse into all our area has to offer. Feel welcome!
