Bienvenidos Amigos!!!

Atenas is a beautiful and picturesque central valley town strategically located between the Pacific coast and the main cities of San Jose, Alajuela and Heredia.
The weather here is amazing! National Geographic has rated Atenas as one of the best climates in the world and more recently The American Association of Retired Persons Magazine (AARP) has ranked Atenas-Costa Rica, as one of the Best Places to Retire Abroad.
Casa Don Pedro is a boost of tasteful hand carved Costa Rican furnitures and art work to make your stay enjoyable. This beautiful Spanish colonial house set in a unique and tranquil location was built with traditional colonial elements such as; high cane ceilings, colonial adobe wall texture, wooden beams, centenary handmade roof clays and a brick arch, all these materials blend in beautifully making Casa Don Pedro really warm and inviting, giving you the actual feeling for what a Spanish colonial house is.
You can enjoy the fresh breeze sitting in the large L-shape corridor and reading a good book, or just relax taking a nap in one of our hammocks in total comfort. This colonial house is surrounded by gorgeous gardens and a variety of tropical trees, therefore you may also expect the wonderful visit of the beautiful Motmot birds, Butterflies and Hummingbirds.

Casa Don Pedro is the perfect place to call your home away from home as you explore this rich and beautiful country and begin your memorable vacation.
Although Casa Don Pedro was inspired by the Spanish colonial homes from the olden days its Spanish architectural designed perfectly combines with the modern, adequate for the new living standards of our times.
Atenas is centrally located, close to many wonders like; Pacific cost beaches, volcanoes, tropical forests, waterfalls and city tours, etc. Atenas is less than an hour from the Capital of San José and just 30 minutes from the international airport, when staying at Casa Don Pedro we can arrange transportation for you from-and-to the airport, or if you prefer you can rent a car. Atenas downtown is a 15 minute ride from Casa Don Pedro, there you will find everything you might need to make your stay complete. There are restaurants, bars, grocery stores, pharmacies and ATM banks.

Access to the Internet is provided via Data-card (mobile USB memory stick) at no extra cost (need to bring your own laptop).
Rental rates are just $39 per night with a minimum stay of one night or $260 per week. A security deposit is required at the time of booking which varies upon the length of stay.
Casa Don Pedro can provide you with a daily cleaning maid for your convenience at a reasonable rate!
Payment can be made; via PayPal

Atenas is a relaxed easy pace environment, a real tropical paradise where schedules and agendas are almost non-existent.

Looking forward to seeing you,
Muchas gracias.

  • We stayed at Casa Don Pedro for 4 days, it was better than what we expected, the pictures do not do any justice. The house is uniquely beautiful as well as comfortable. It is located in a very quiet and peaceful town about 15 minutes from Atenas. The weather was perfect, we fell asleep in the hammocks listening to the sounds of nature. Our boys 17, and 10 loved it. Pillar the housekeeper was very pleasant and helpful. "Thank you Pillar". Pedro and Maria were out of the country but called us and welcomed us to their cottage. I would definitely recommend Casa Don Pedro to anyone who enjoys nature and peaceful surroundings.

  • We had a blast at Pedro and Maria's cottage! Our group was unique in that I was traveling with my two brothers and my boyfriend and this house was perfect for us. We were able to make breakfast every morning, explore nearby cities during the day, and then chill out at night on the hammocks all around the home.None of the boys spoke Spanish but Pilar, their housekeeper, was so sweet in trying to help them figure everything out before I got there. The home is in a beautiful rural location surrounded by mango trees that the guys loved eating. It's also centrally located so we were able to see a lot of different parts of the country without having to go more than 2 hours by car. Pedro and Maria weren't home but they called to check in and made sure we had any and all questions resolved. A wonderful place to stay!

  • The most important thing to enjoy your experience here (or any rental in Costa Rica) is to have realistic expectations. This is Costa Rica, not Bevery Hills.
    What you should know:
-this is a rustic traditional type of home
    -there is no kitchen table
-there are lots of insects in the country, and some will find their way into the home through the 1" gap below the doors, or from flying in when you leave the door open
    -the showers are not warm
If you're a Canadian, imagine a rustic cottage and you'll have the right idea.

Now that you have the proper expectations, you'll be able to fully enjoy the experience that is Casa Don Pedro..
-mango trees in the yard (pick your own when in season)
    -4 hammocks surrounding the home
    -outdoor patio set
-plenty of hummingbirds and fascinating leafcutter ants to watch
    -two bedrooms and two washrooms
-very helpful on-site staff - while Pilar doesn't understand much English, she's always ready to help (either providing a local SIM card for you to use, or to fix the satellite tv signal, or help with internet issues, etc)
-Pedro the owner is very responsive and called upon our arrival to ensure everything was okay.. He's happy to translate any issues to Pilar, and even helped us track down 4 cartons of cigarettes we'd mistakenly left in our taxi to the property.
    -2 nearby convenience stores/pulperias
-great little village to take a walk around

Our top recommendation for anyone staying at Casa Don Pedro:
get in touch with Walter (Pilar can give you his #) for all of your private transfer needs. His rates are low, and he's an extremely honest and reliable person. He works all day long, so never fear that you're calling him too early/late.

He's continuing to learn English and loves interacting with anyone that can improve his skills.

We took 6 or so round-trip transfers with him during our stay, not to mention he helped me get airtime and a new SIM for my phone upon leaving the property. He'll also wait outside the supermarket while you shop, and even had a car booster seat for our little guy.

No joke, Walter made this experience incredible. The property was great, but the local interaction with Walter was the icing on the cake. We spent 2 entire days with him, and we even met his beautiful family.

For anyone staying at Casa Don Pedro, or anywhere else in Atenas.. Walter is a saving grace. They block phone numbers on here, so speak with Pilar, or search Twit-ter for 'Walter Atenas Taxi', and you should find my tweet.

  • This was a relaxing place to stay in the hills and valleys outside of San Jose. The house is in a small village, Santa Eulalia. We went for walks and saw farms with rolling hills and horses and cows grazing just down the street. The weather couldn't have been better, the area is known for it's perfect climate. There was a nice farmer's market in Antenas about 15 minutes away and a fruit stand down the street. The house is very clean and comfortable with 3 hammocks outside under nice shade from the roof. We stayed at home most of the time, just relaxing and eating fruit, hanging on the hammocks, walking, reading. If you feel like heading out it is near Volcan Poas and Manuel Antonio Beach. Pedro was very helpful with directions and getting in touch beforehand.

  • Pedro and Maria have created a great escape. It's my new place to pick up and exit with my guests coming in from San Jose. I was a little concerned about finding the place, but Pedro gave me excellent directions even a link to a map with Lat and Long exact coordinates... We showed up late, but it was not problem... their grounds keeper was incredible... she found out we were hungry and brought us a fantastic traditional homemade soup. She was awesome. I highly recommend the place... it would be great to stay a week!

  • My father and I had a great rest here, it was a little bit tricky to find but we had GREAT guidance and support, prompt communication, and everything we needed to find the place and feel safe in our stay! Pedro and Pilar are there for you, the house is adorable, there is laundry, BBQ, and a stove (although it really only works one burner at a time) and the location was convenient to Atenas, Grecia, and Sarchi. For the price we paid, and the comfort, security, and privacy we enjoyed, it was by far one of our favorite stays on our two week trip. Thanks Pedro, Maria, and Pilar!

We hope to see you soon in the near future. By the way Pilar says hi to you all!!!

  • Stayed at Casa Don Pedro near Atenas, Costa Rica for one week. It is a beautiful mountain cabin with everything you may need. It is a place if you are looking for serenity and solitude, about 4 or 5 miles from the town along a winding mountain road, amid lush greenery in a tropical setting. The weather was fantastic and Atenas is a small town, a perfect getaway from the hustle and bustle of the big city. Pedro who was not in town but made sure his helper Pilar was always on hand to answer questions and help us with our needs.
