The host was very welcoming. He met us at the apartment and gave us two sets of keys for our party of three. He also helped me when contacted through the airbnb app when I had difficulty understanding the spin cycle on the washing machine. The profile pictures are very accurate. The apartment was clean, and suited our needs of just needing a place to sleep/clean while exploring the city of Munich during the day. The apartment is conveniently located near the Poccistrabe U-station which is convenient for the major central attractions of the city. We enjoyed watching DVDs in the evenings after long days of sightseeing.
I spent a wonderful time with my family there, great private facilities and convenient access to public transport.
R. A. was a great host. The place was very spacious and R. A. was not around much but was available via messaging. The location was fantastic to see all the sights and very easy to get to.
Let's start from the top. I don't actually know R.A's first name, as he was not at the apartment when we arrived as agreed. After 30 minutes of foreign-induced panic, we asked a resident for entry in our best improv Anglo-German-dialect; a neighbour let us borrow her phone to call who she named Mr Halbherr.
Upon being told the keys were in a mailbox, not previously mentioned, we entered the apartment to the overwhelming smell of mould and fungi. The place was tiny, there wasn't mushroom. The beds were creaky, lumpy and slats held up by newspaper clippings. I contracted conjunctivitis from the linen or pillowcases, and had to visit a pharmacy to be treated for my 'Bindehautenzundung'. The plastering was coming away from the walls in the bedroom, there was no ceiling light and there was a lamp which electrocuted one of the guests whom was trying to adjust the light. Don't forget the painfully creaky and soft floorboards...
The kitchen was small and dirty, with a strong smell of mould again and the plates, cups and cutlery were filthy. Appliances were 40 years old and faulty - dishwasher had no knob, the washing machine looked like a medieval torture device with no usage instructions, and the microwave was very old - the kettle, however, was great! - aside from the lack of coffee and tea; or any other kitchen condiments.
The toilet was oddly designed, allowing all contents to be viewed but not flushed or placed in the water of the bowl. Sometimes, it did not flush anything down, worsened by the leaking toilet pipe to the rear, which left excremental fluid all over the floor in the corner. The sink leaked constantly, wetting the entire bathroom floor with a single stroke of a toothbrush. The shower was tiny, and had no place to hold a shower head. Because of all this leaking, we had to use 2 of our 3 allotted showering towels in dedicated service to spillage reduction.
Let us not forget the COMPLETE lack of WiFi in the apartment, no landline phone and thus - without a sim card - no communication at less than $100 per phone call. R.A. generously requested that we borrow the neighbours phones when he wished to get in contact with us, rather than simply calling us himself. This, paired scrupulously with the fear of a 50 EURO charge for disturbing the neighbours, meant we simply had no contact with the host or any other persons. Marvelous.
Overall, I would liken my stay to being dragged over razorblades encrusted with salt and lemon juice in a small German cell-block. Do yourself a favour; book a holiday inn. Better yet, sleep in the alleyway adjacent - there is no smell of mould and a polite dog to keep you warm.
0/10 - have to give one star because we did actually have beds to sleep in... Gutentag!
Halb so wild.
We had no problems. The flat is in a quiet neighborhood, a short metro ride from the city center. Unfortunately there is no internet access.
