About this listing
This house in the center of the village provides wonderful views from the rooftop pool and terrace. Separate suite on the ground floor, 2.5 baths, sleeps 4-6. A short walk to the bakery and two local restaurants, and a 10 minute drive to Uzès.
The main floor, accessed by a stone-tiled stair from the courtyard, includes a spacious and modern living and dining area, lit by the glassed entry and the aquarium window into the pool. The dining area includes a table and 6 chairs and is open to the living area which includes two comfortable built in couches which can also be converted to single beds. The living and dining areas combine to form a cool refuge from the summer sun, but also benefit from electric heating and the open sided-wood burning fireplace on chilly nights.
This area also includes a TV, DVD and CD player and speaker for hookup to your MP3 or iPod. Wireless internet access is also provided.
The kitchen is also on this main floor and includes a fridge, dishwasher, electric cooktop and electric oven. It also has a microwave oven, double sink and all small appliances. There is also a WC on this floor.
From the main floor, there is a spiral stair accessing the top floor. This floor includes a sitting area with sliding door access to the rooftop terrace and swimming pool and a spacious bedroom with closets and sliding door access to the pool. There is also a full bathroom on this floor, with shower/tub and wc.
Accessed from the courtyard by a door through a beautiful glassed archway, the lower level includes a bedroom with double bed, and a separate shower/dressing area and wc.
Separate from this area, but also accessed through the courtyard, off of a covered cave area is the washing machine room and utilities.
Throughout the house, the owner's paintings, quilts and other artwork bring vibrant color and a joie de vivre to the architect-designed, streamlined spaces. Parking is readily available in several locations just a short walk away from the entrance, and if you have heavier bundles (after a day at the brocante or market), dropoffs are possible at the door. La Trobairitz has electric space heaters throughout, but currently is not rented during the winter months without prior agreement from the owners.
La Trobairitz is a self-contained house - all of the features are private, including the rooftop pool and terrace, and the ground floor courtyard. Parking is available in a small square just a few steps away.
Interaction with Guests
Guests are greeted at the house by our caretaker, a charming and capable person who lives in Collias, 3 km away. She is knowledgable about the area and speaks French, English and Portuguese fluently.
Sanilhac is a small, working village with a bakery, a cafe, a restaurant/bar. It is a nice place to walk around and to access hiking trails. Uzès, just a few minutes away, has many shops and restaurants, and markets on Wednesday and Saturday.
While a car is highly recommended, there is local bus service to Uzès, Nîmes, Avignon, and the beach.
Other Things to Note
La Trobairitz is a great home base for exploring the Gard -close to everything, yet a quiet and relaxed place to come home to. Visit the sites and end the day with dinner on the terrace, watching the sunset.
No smoking in the house, please. No children younger than 10 years of age or pets.
About the Host, Lawrence
My partner and I fell in love with the south of France 10 years ago and bought our first house in Sanilhac. 5 years later we bought our second. We are both in construction, maybe that's why we love houses. Why do we love France? The food, the wine, the beauty, the people! Someday we hope to live in Sanilhac year round and work on our houses, hike with our dogs, and have time for photography and painting.
