Description

The Space

My mom Marcy is traveling in Central America so I have taken over the Airbnb rentals that she used to manage. You have the entire front section of the house for your private use including 1 bedroom, living room, dining room, small kitchen, yoga room with privacy curtain, and full bathroom. A single air mattress is available to accommodate a 3rd person.

You do have the option of renting the house as a 1 bedroom, 2 bedroom, or 3 bedroom. Listed price is as a 1 bedroom - message me for details about the other options.

Please note that the reviews reflect when Marcy lived in the back bedroom and shared the living room, dining room, kitchen and bathroom with Airbnb guests. Since she is traveling those areas are all for your private use and will not be shared with anyone else.

If you enjoy your privacy and the opportunity to meet other travelers this space might be a good fit for you. There are 2 other Airbnb guest rooms on the property, one is a detached building in the back yard, and the other is attached to the back of the house with a separate entrance. None of these renters have access to the main section of the house that this listing applies to.

The property is a peaceful space focused on environmental sustainability and a love for nature. Solar hot water, rainwater collection cisterns, grey water systems connected to the outdoor shower, bath, sink, and washing machine which water native plants and citrus trees, low water use, and recycling are some of the ways that I reduce the use of natural resources at my house and nurture the environment. Native plants in both the front and back yard attract local wildlife such as birds, butterflies, hummingbirds, and lizards.

You do have access to the outdoor shower, bath tub and washing machine in the back yard, but please be respectful of the other guests that share that space. You must use the soaps and shampoos provided for the outdoor amenities since they are connected to a grey water system that waters the citrus trees and plants. You can use any bath/shower products in the indoor bathroom.

My home is open to fun loving, quiet and peaceful people who have an awareness of their carbon footprint.

There is a solar hot water heater and an 'On Demand' hot water system which is used if solar hot water runs out. This ensures that everyone can take a hot shower as we never run out of hot water.

During the winter months each room has it's own oil/electric space heater. Usually these are not even needed during the day when it warms up.

WiFi is included.

Check in times are after 3pm

Interaction with Guests

Since I do not live on the property everything is set up for self check in, which is detailed in the itinerary once you book the room. I live 3 miles away and available to help answer any questions before or during your stay. I come by several times a week to water plants in the yard.

The Neighborhood

I love the neighborhood. It is a diverse, generally quiet, working class neighborhood so if you are expecting a more affluent or gentrified environment this is probably not the best fit. There are two churches, a park, an elementary school and mini markets all with a couple blocks. Restaurants are within walking distance as well.

Getting Around

Bus is 3 blocks from here. One bus takes you downtown. One bus the other direction takes you to the Tucson Mall. You can pretty much get anywhere in Tucson by riding 2 buses. The second bus is free. Just ask for a transfer when you pay for first bus.

Other Things to Note

There are several great dining options within walking distance. For inexpensive, authentic Sonoran Mexican food check out Taqueria Juanitos, El Guerro Canelo, or one of the many food trucks in the area.

Monterey Court is a great option for unique shops, massages, happy hour, live music, drinks, and dinner. Monterey Court is 5 blocks from my home and has an excellent venue of music in their outdoor courtyard 6 nights a week. The restaurant is moderately priced with a good selection of salads, sandwiches and specials. Full bar with beer flights on Fridays from 5-7. Live music starts at 6 or 7 and goes until 10pm as this is a residential neighborhood.

House Rules

Do not run AC or heaters with windows open.

No smoking.

Keep volume levels of music and movies moderate so other Airbnb guests on the property can enjoy the peace and quiet of the back yard.

Do not use the outdoor kitchen - it is the only kitchen that the other Airbnb guests have access to.

Only human waste and toilet paper can be flushed down the toilet.

In the outdoor shower use shampoo, conditioner and body wash provided unless your products are free from harmful ingredients to the grey water system. I have a list of prohibited ingredients you can check your products against.

Only use laundry detergent that is provided - it is bio-compatible for grey water systems. Washing machine is cold water only.
