About this listing
Our two bedroom apartment at Marina Bay on Dickenson Bay is modern comfortable and well situated to enjoy the best of what Antigua has to offer. Enjoy beautiful sunsets and strolls on a quiet beach several wonderful restaurants in walking distance.
This is a very spacious 2 bedroom with generous bedrooms, would fit even two couples traveling with a couple of young kids as well. We can gladly make arrangements for toddler beds and cribs if so.
One of Marina Bay's best features is a Small Beach hut on an otherwise empty beach filled with chairs and chaise loungers for enjoying on this quiet beach. This beach is also at its finest during the quiet summer months.
Interaction with Guests
I have two points of contact for my guests on island, a 8 year trusted housekeeper, and a very close friend who is able to handle any unforeseen incidents. I personally will handle all interactions via email or phone if necessary. I believe the independent traveler wishes to have the feeling that they are in their own space.
My wife and I and our two small boys lived here Until last November. I miss walking the beach at sunset with a cocktail and watching the boys playing in the surf. I miss walking to Coconut Grove for breakfast and the stone oven pizzas at Labussola or the easy atmosphere and pub grub at Putters, all walk-able and amazing.
I strongly recommend a rental vehicle while on Antigua. There are groceries to pick up at First Choice Foods, 5 Minute drive, and you will want to explore this beautiful island on your own terms.
Other Things to Note
Electricity is tremendously expensive on Antigua, Sleep comfortably at night, by all means turn on the A/C but don't let it run all day...That's it.
Treat it like your own home, its is ours and we love it. We respect greatly the Airbnb traveler/customer. So we think you know what we mean.
We had a great stay at this condo and thoroughly enjoyed our time in Antigua.
The apartment was extremely clean on our arrival. Arriving at the apartment by car was easy and check-in was easy. It is a very comfortable home. We were traveling with a five month old and a 2 year old. The apartment was perfect for our family. A toddler bed and a crib were arranged and the apartment was a safe play for them to play. The place is much bigger than the photos suggest.
The kitchen was fully equipped with every tool and appliance imaginable. We were able to use the grill on the deck to prepare our meals while looking out over the water.
The apartment cannot be closer to the beach. Walking out of the apartment door, you are 1 minute from being on the sand. We visited many of Antigua's great beaches during our stay. We liked the beach outside our door best. Beautiful sand and water on a nearly deserted beach. We had the space to ourselves every day. Yet if we wanted, we could walk 100 meters down the beach to a great restaurant and bar. My recommendation to the owner would be to add a picture of the beach. It was a shocking surprise and should be one of the apartment's biggest selling points.
The apartment has a perfect location. Renting a car is highly recommended. Everything in Antigua is easy to find, and this apartment is well in reach of restaurants, beaches, and supermarkets. It could not be easier.
Thor was very responsive to questions before and during our trip. He was very quick to offer tips to improve our stay, including advice on what we should bring with us to Antigua. This information was very helpful and greatly improved our stay.
I cannot recommend this apartment enough. It was peaceful, modern, and comfortable. It will be our new home in Antigua. My entire family cannot wait to return to the island and cannot wait to stay in this condo again.
We had a great stay at Thor's apartment. I travelled with my sister and my 7 year old boy, Christian
A taxi was called for us on arrival at the airport by the host; We picked up the keys from Juney, who showed us around the apartment. Our driver, Fenton, soon became our man on demand. He is a Jamaican guy who is very trustworthy. He was very helpful to us in many ways.
The first thing that struck us was the size of the accomodation - very large! (by British standards) The place was clean and tidy. Everything you need is in place. It is true that the beach is literally just 1 minutes walk away. The (very few) local people were wonderful and the view from the balcony is divine.
This part of the beach is used by local people which, in Antigua, is perfect. They have to be one of the most polite and gracious. There are some Caribbean Islands I have visited once and never again. Antigua is the complete opposite. Always say hello to everyone you see if they haven't said it first. It is truly genuine.
A number of restaurants and bars are 10 minutes walk along the beach, as is Sandals's famous resort.
The area is quiet and feels safe. Not there is much to fear in Antigua. There is a site management office where we met a lovely manager called Heather.
The air conditioning is welcome in the bedrooms. I understand that Thor is in the process of updating some of the facilities, but they matched our expectations and suited our needs.
Open the kitchen and balcony window and a constant brisk refreshing breeze clears the lounge area of heat.
On a minor note, we had a problem using the gas. Luckily we had a contact on hand to help out: again, Fenton, who is a jack of all trades with his smiling face. Also, one night the electricity failed in the early hours and we had a nervous day wondering if all the food we had purchased at the supermarket would be ruined. The host was straight onto the matter and things were resolved within 10 hours, sending his father over to be sure we were ok.
The one recommendation we would make is to display Juney's number and other important numbers and Emails in the apartment on a noticeboard. Also, information about using local telephone codes and maybe some directions here and there. Its just a small thing, but you know how it is when you are travelling in unfamiliar places. If you have no electricity you probably cannot retrieve that info via email ;)
Due to a prolonged drought, the local swamp was a little smelly, but not unbearable. This is not the hosts fault rather mankind and climate change most probably.
All in all we would strongly recommend this residence.
Myself and 2 friends had a lovely short break at the accommodation. We hadn't realised that it was within a one minute walk to the beach which was great. It is close to nice places such as Coconut Grove Restaurant and Anais cocktail bar. It was within walking distance of the supermarket and we made it our morning exercise which was useful.
The apartment itself was slightly off the beaten track but we weren't put off and there are buses if you want to take that route. We took taxis instead which are readily available. The property is spacious and well equipped. We needed to use the aircon each evening and were so grateful to have it in the bedrooms. Overall it was a really good stay and we would recommend it to anyone looking for a reasonably priced apartment in Antigua.
Staying in Dickinson Bay was great. It was close to the airport and relatively easy to find. The unit was gorgeous. Plenty of space and right by the beach. Everything was clean and labeled for easy findings. The closeness to the grocery store was also a plus. We would definitely stay here again.
Everything was exactly as it said on the tin, but much much more. The apartment was spacious airy cool and clean, and larger than I'd imagined. Fully equipped and functional, I don't think that we wanted for anything. The views from the apartment were of the bay, where the liners inch into St Johns. Most impressive was its position, literally two minutes from a delightful, empty beach, which was everything a beach should be, warm clear water, white sand. Two minutes up the beach was Coconut Grove, as appealing as a beachside bar/restaurant can be.
The locals are friendly and accommodating, we rented a super little car, and spent five days watching the Test match, which was an intriguing draw, (Americans never get that!) Jimmy Anderson got the record number of wickets, and we ate curried goat, jerk chicken and drank copious amounts of rum punch, and met some lovely people.
If there's somewhere closer to heaven, I wanna go there!!!
This was a wonderful place to stay on Antigua! We were right on the beach and had beautiful views of the ocean. The condo was clean, airy, and easy to find. Juney met us at the condo, showed us around, and made sure we had everything we needed. During our stay we had some questions about how to operate the appliances, which were different than what we were used to, and Thor was quick to respond via email. At his suggestion, we tried Coconut Grove and loved it! It was just a few minutes walk down the beach. We ended up eating breakfast, dinner, and getting drinks there during our stay! Dickenson Bay was a great place to stay. We were able to snorkel on the far side of the bay, rented kayaks, and there were plenty of beach chairs/umbrellas available. There is a grocery store right near by and the aiport was about a 15 minute drive. We definitely hope to stay here again!
We thoroughly enjoyed the space on offer in this condo. It has a very homely feel and the views are spectacular. The beach is just one minute walk and we had it all to ourselves when we visited!
The only downside for us was there were not as many bars and restaurants as we would have liked. However, the fact the condo is so well equipped, so lovely and homely and has such great views more than made up for it. We got a taxi to the local supermarket (about $10) and stocked up with food and drink and thoroughly enjoyed eating and drinking here.
We were very impressed by the peace, quiet, space and proximity to the beach of this condo and were very happy with this accommodation choice.
About the Host, Thor
I was raised in Antigua and met my wife on Dickenson Bay many years ago. My parents still call Antigua home and we wish to keep our condo so we can return often to visit. We have recently moved to NY to be closer to my wife's family and to be able to have a broader spectrum of options for our two small boys. I am currently working with a Non Profit in NYC and my wife is taking care of our two small boys. We love our small condo and look forward to opening our former home to travelers who will also fall in love with a wonderful corner of the world that we miss alot!
