This amazing one bedroom houseboat apartment is full of character and charm. It's an easy bike ride to downtown Sausalito and the ferry to SF, has free parking, a gorgeous deck overlooking the bay and is near Marin's most beautiful beaches and hikes.
It was always my dream to live on a houseboat in Sausalito (I know the address says Mill Valley but the boat is closer to Sausalito) and now I do! I travel a fair bit for work and I'd love to make the boat available to others while I'm away. It's in a fantastic location, just off Highway 101, about fifteen minutes to Muir Woods, ten minutes to Tennessee Valley, right on the bike path to Mt Tam, Mill Valley and downtown Sausalito. There are two Whole Foods within a five minutes drive, two excellent farmer's markets, Heath ceramics is a lovely twenty minute walk, as his Fish Restaurant. The incredible Sushi Ran, and lots of delicious coffee shops, as well as cute downtown Sausalito are about a 45 minute walk (that I love), a ten minute drive or a twenty minute bike ride. A few things to note about the apartment: it's on the second floor of the houseboat and to access it you have to climb a narrow, wooden spiral staircase. The houseboat is near both the 101 freeway and a seaplane dock. So you hear the planes taking off (though only during the day) and you hear the freeway. None of this troubles me in the slightest, but you should know about it.
You will have access to the whole apartment, which is small but wonderful. My landlords, a lovely elderly couple live in their own apartment on the first floor of the boat. You may run into them on your stay, and if you do, you can ask them for stories about the dock's much wilder days in the 60s and 70s.
Interaction with Guests
I may be able to meet you personally, if not, I will leave easy directions for you to get in. Since my landlords live downstairs (in a separate apartment)...I'm looking for quiet and respectful guests.
The Sausalito houseboats are historic, fascinating, bohemian and charming. My dock is the furthest North of them all and a bit off by itself. The community is warm and welcoming. Most residents have been here since the 1960s...when the dock was a lot wilder than it is now!
There is a bike path about a hundred yards from the house that connects Sausalito and Mill Valley. You can bike from the boat to the ferry in Sausalito and take your bike, getting off at the ferry building. The ferries run all day. There is also free parking in our houseboat-dock parking lot for one car.
I would love you to treat my home with care and respect. Specifically, no smoking, no pets, no loud arguments, and no parties.
It was so far my best experience with airbnb. The boat house was exactly like on the pictures and the bed so comfortable. Would definitly recommand it :)
Laurel was the perfect host and her houseboat was wonderful. She was very helpful with all our questions and provided clear instructions on getting to the houseboat explaining everything we needed to know about staying there. All her neighbors were very friendly and nice. We felt at home in her comfortable piece of paradise. The views were more spectacular than the pictures in the listing. The location was perfect...an easy bike ride to downtown Sausalito and the ferry to San Francisco. Very convenient to everything in the North Bay. I would stay there again in a heartbeat!
Laurel's home is simply amazing. It is comfortable, cozy, and ideally located for a vacation in the north bay - walkable to Tennessee Valley park, next to the Muir Woods shuttle, and close to both Mill Valley and Sausalito. Laurel was helpful and a very considerate host - I felt extremely welcomed.
Laurel's houseboat was the absolute perfect getaway! It was close enough to the city to go to museums and restaurants with ease, but far enough away to feel like we were in a quiet little harbor town. We didn't get to meet Laurel but she left clear instructions so we had no trouble finding the place or getting in.
The decor was fantastic! Exactly what we neo-bohemians were looking for, and her book selection provided some wonderful rainy day reading.
I can't recommend this place enough! Stay at Laurel's!
