South of Carcassonne, in the beautiful Corbière Hills, this one bedroom apartment nestles in the ancient village of Termes, at the foot of one of the most famous castles on the Cathar Trail.
The village is surrounded by spectacular mountain scenery, which you can explore on waymarked paths. Below the village are the dramatic gorges of Termes, where waterfalls tumble through fantastically sculpted stone into turquoise pools.
The gite is ideal for two but can sleep three. The upper part includes a living room with a convertible sofa, television, and fully-equipped kitchen, which includes a dishwasher, oven, microwave, cafetière, kettle and fridge with a small freezer. The village’s own supply of delicious spring water is on tap.
The bedroom (with extra-long double bed) and bathroom are on the lower level, which is naturally cool in summer. The sofa can also be converted into a small double bed. All rooms have electric radiators, and a fan is provided in hot weather.
A table and chairs outside the front door are ready for breakfast on a sunny morning. And there is a garden on a terrace above the gite, where you can eat your lunch or just relax.
Interaction with Guests
I enjoy welcoming guests, and will be happy to provide maps and any other information they may need about the area.
Termes is centrally placed in the Corbières, and is an ideal base to explore this region.
Close by is the beautiful village of Lagrasse with its restaurants and medieval abbey. A little farther away, you can unwind in the warm healing waters of the pool at the spa town of Rennes-les-Bains, soak up the sun on Mediterranean beaches, scale the dizzying heights of the chateaux of Queribus and Peyrepertuse, or investigate the mysteries of Rennes-le-Chateau.
Guests will need a car, motorbike or bicycle as public transport does not reach the village. You can park lower down in the village or in the visitors' carpark.
Other Things to Note
Termes is just over an hour from Carcassonne airport, and two hours from Toulouse and Montpellier airports. It is also accessible from Perpignan and Girona airport in Spain.
Narbonne rail station (with a connection via Lille to London) is just under an hour away.
The tap water comes from a local spring, and is safe to drink.
Because of the danger of forest fires, please do not light any kind of fire in the garden. If you wish to use a barbeque you are welcome to do so in the courtyard of the main house.
If you smoke, please be very careful to extinguish cigarettes.
Outstanding! Best Airbnb experience so far. The apartment was over the top perfect and the village was magical. Our hosts were so gracious in every way my husband and I were very sad to leave.
Having never traveled to this area of France before I was speechless to it's beauty and what it had to offer.
My husband and I are already discussing our return visit. Absolutely 5 stars.
The house was cosy, provided with everything we needed and very clean. We loved its location in this beautiful village of Termes. Rosemary was very nice and ready to help for everything you needed, not just about the house but also helpful with indications to improve our trip.
We strongly recomend Rosmery's house.
Rosemary's gite was just what we had hoped for. Situated in a lovely village, surrounded by nature, it is fully equipped, clean and comfortable.
Rosemary is a helpful host, pointing us at the various spots to visit in the region, the local markets and a nice vide grenier in nearby Lagrasse.
We had a lovely time!
Rosemary's gite was exactly what we expected in a delightful place - you could call it a backwater, which is just what we wanted. Best of all, we were able to swim daily in the rock pool under the waterfall just a 5 minute drive away...
Rosemary is a great host with lots of local knowledge. All her suggestions were spot on.
We had a fantastic week and can recommend the gite, the host and the location.
Rosemary was very attentive both before we arrived and once we arrived at the apartment, has very useful information on the area in which you move and always find that you can have a nice conversation with her.
The apartment was just what we needed to spend a few days there, it's comfortable, practical, is very clean and has everything you need to make your stay there enjoyable.
If you want to relax in a tranquil setting in the midst of nature, this is your place.
