Our home has central AC. PLEASE BE FULLY VACCINATED prior to booking. Everyone in our household is vaccinated. Just 15 minutes from Portland, 15 min from UNE, and 10 min from the beach, this charming room includes a smart tv, a small chair, a closet with hangers, & desk. The room decor is cozy contemporary meets Victorian. The low barrier shower & laundry room is adjacent to the room. The room is just outside the shared kitchen, across from the main door.

The space
Our 1869 farmhouse was fully renovated just 5 years ago yet it retains the charm of an older home. You are welcome to make meals in our gourmet kitchen with granite counter tops, JennAire convection oven, toaster oven, microwave and toaster.

The downstairs bathroom is adjacent to your room. It is shared with us during normal waking hours. Close the curtain when you want privacy. You may use the washer & dryer in the bathroom. The grocery store is a 10 minute walk or 2 minute drive away. You can walk/bike/skateboard to several beer/spirit tasting rooms, galleries, consignment shops, and restaurants in both Saco and Biddeford.

Since Stefen & I, and our tenant & his daughter live here, you may encounter some noise.

Where you’ll be

Saco, Maine, United States

Our convenient home is located in a walkable historically Polish neighborhood. You can stroll downtown to visit the Saco Historical Museum and Dyer Library. Sunny Saco has several interesting boutiques and restaurants.

For a longer walk head across the river to the Mill District and have a wonderful al fresco meal on the Saco River at the Run of the Mill or Blaze Brewing. You can walk around the Mills on your own or pay for a guided tour of these gorgeous spaces. You are encouraged to visit the many small and innovative businesses that have located here in recent years.

There is a boat launch less than a mile from the house at the Saco River. You can easily launch a boat further upriver and enjoy a lazy 4 hour canoe/fishing/swimming trip downriver. A fishing license is required. Motor boats are allowed on the Saco and, of course, on the ocean. For a small additional fee you may use our canoe (if it fits on your vehicle!) or sit-on-top kayak.

There are multiple easy hiking areas nearby. We are two miles to the Saco Heath and 5 miles to the Horton Woods hiking trails. More strenuous hiking trails are about an hour's drive away. (The famous Acadia National Park is a 3.5 hour drive from Saco.)

If you enjoy bicycling, we are just 3 blocks from the Eastern Trail hiker/biker pathway. This trail is part of the East Coast Greenway. You can enjoy a beautiful journey from our house Northward through Scarborough Marsh to South Portland's Bug Light Park on Casco Bay (near Portland) or Southward to Kittery's Piscataqua River. It is about a 2 hour one-way bike ride from our home to Portland.

Funtown/Splashdown, Aquaboggan, Monkey Trunks Ropes Course & Ziplines are all within a 10 minute drive. ***The famous Old Orchard Beach and it's amusement park is within a pretty 10 minute drive. ***Sebago Lake is a 40 minute drive away.***

Stefen is a drummer for a variety of original and cover rock bands. He generally works from 10am - 7pm Tuesdays through Sundays. Jessica is a Washington, DC transplant with a background in environmental advocacy. We enjoy biking, canoeing, hiking, and swimming. We love sharing our favorite haunts with guests. In May 2013, we traveled to Iceland and Sweden. I have traveled to The Netherlands, Cairo, Beijing, Geneva, London and many places in Canada. We enjoy being in and on the water as much as we possibly can during the warm season. In the late evenings, you'll find us outside grilling and enjoying guests' company or indoors watching science fiction. Jessica works with children who have a variety of behavioral issues including autism and reactive attachment disorder. My work hours are generally mid-day to evening. In 2018, we welcomed Jessica's mom, Marcia. She worked for a member of the Fairfax County (VA) Board of Supervisors for over 30 years. She's an avid gardener who is very involved with the seniors community in Saco. Her side of the house is listed as WayStation Three.

During your stay

Jessica works with children and adults who have behavior issues and/or Autism. Jessica's mom, Marcia, when she's not travelling, is available after 10am if you have questions. (She lives in the adjacent unit at the rear of the house.) Stefen typically has Mondays and Tuesdays off. We have two adorable long-haired cats. The male, Hercules, is a cuddlebug. If you let her, JamieLee will sleep at your feet. Neither cat has been declawed. Our adopted English Pointer-whippet mix is very sweet and is quite rambunctious. Her name is Dixie. Please be wary of furries trying to escape during good weather. Do not let them outside. Our pets live in the big part of the house. Feel free to feed our astrolourp chickens table scraps, but no citrus rinds.
