We live in an apartment in a beautifully preserved historic building from 1927 in a laid back Brooklyn neighborhood. Restaurants, bars, shopping, parks, subway and the express bus are close by with a good connection to Manhattan and all of Brooklyn.
Our guest room has a
- queen bed
- 3 windows with black out blinds
- a clothes rack with hangers
We have only one bathroom which you'll need to share with us.
You are welcome to use the kitchen. There is an shelf in the fridge reserved for your groceries and a breakfast station with coffee and teas.
WHAT WE'LL PROVIDE
We'll provide linens, towels, soap, shampoo, tooth brushes and tooth paste :)
There is a washer / dryer in the basement and we'll provide you with laundry detergent.
If you are a group of 3, we have a comfortable twin air mattress for the third guest to sleep on. We set it up next to the queen size bed. All three of you sleep next to each other in the same room (please check the photos :)
NEW YORK RADIATOR HEATERS
Like most non-luxury buildings in New York, our building has an antique radiator heating system.
- It turns on and off for the whole building so you have to open a window if it gets too hot in your room.
- It can get pretty noisy. In our building the heaters make a cracking noise a few times per day that lasts for a few minutes.
Interaction with Guests
We work from home.
We have a little office in our living room from where we run our animation studio (unfortunately it's not in the photos), so we are home during most of the day.
Rodrigo also likes to work during the night so he sometimes works from the sofa until 8am and then sleeps during the day.
Whatever type of transportation you use, try consulting g**gle maps's directions function :)
Use the corner of 75th Street and Ridge Blvd as our approximate address.
We live close to the '77 St' stop on the subway line R. You can take it directly to Manhattan or switch to one of the express subways.
The express bus mentioned in the title of our listing is the X27/X37. It takes you from Bay Ridge in one stop to the Financial District and then goes along 6th and 5th Ave to Bryant Park (Public Library). It's super convenient but a little pricey.
It's a commuter bus so it's very frequent in the mornings to get into Manhattan and in the evenings to get back to Bay Ridge.
Subway & local busses: $2.50/ride
Express busses: $6/ride
7-day pass for the Subway and local busses: $30
7-day pass for Subway, local and express busses: $55
Other Things to Note
CHECK-IN / CHECK-OUT
We don't have fixed check-in and check-out times. We try to be as flexible as possible.
But that means that we sometimes have overlaps of our guests arriving and leaving.
If we have an overlap we ask the guest who arrived really early or is leaving really late to leave their luggage in the living room so that we get a chance to ready the guest room :)
1. Please don't wear street shoes inside our apartment. Even if you just forgot your phone in your room, please take them off to get it. We are very germaphobic about the dirt on shoes.
2. If you're a guy please sit down when you use the restroom.
3. We welcome you to eat in the kitchen. If you would like to eat in your room, please throw away the trash afterwards in the kitchen. You don't want any 6-legged visitors ;)
It was wonderful week in NYC. JoAnn was very kind and helpful. The room was clean and comfortable, exactly as pictures show. I and my boyfriend enjoyed the staying! We loved the neighborhood as well, very quiet with a lot of restaurants which are good to eat there. We would certainly book this place next time we take a trip to that exceptional city! :)
Joann was incredibly friendly! The neighborhood was wonderful and the apartment was beautiful and meticulous. Incredibly comfortable stay at a very close distance to the R train!
Perfect place to stay to visit NY!
We had a really great time! Very nice and helpful hosts & very nice, clean and huge room with a pretty comfortable bed! We defintly would stay there again:)
My friend and I spent one week in February at JoAnn and Rodrigo's place. We didn't meet Rodrigo, but JoAnn was really nice and helpful. The room is exactly as shown in the photos, enough space and a really comfortable bed. Also everything else you need is provided. Everything was clean and JoAnn was always helpful with tips what to see and how to get around. The neigbourhood is nice and quiet and the apartment is close to the subway to get to Manhattan.
Overall we had a very nice stay and enjoyed our first visit to New York very much!
Rodrigo and JoAnn are very nice people, very hardworking and they make us feel very welcome at their home. The place is really nice and was perfect for spending this first week in New York. We loved the neighborhood as well, very quiet yet with a lot of restaurants and life.
It was wonderful time in NY. I spent 10days. The host was very kind and helpful. The room was clean and comfortable. I and my friend enjoyed the staying!
We're Rodrigo and JoAnn a young couple from Brazil and Germany. We founded a company called MinBug Studios where we and our team produce animations for companies all around the world and do other projects like music videos for children's singalong songs. We love our neighborhood and enjoy taking our guests sightseeing.
