The Birdhouse in Hancock, NY
Our property, home to The Birdhouse and Park & Albaum’s Community Market, was purchased in 2006 to house a distillery and a burgeoning salvage business. The Bakery in Hancock, NY opened downstairs in April 2012.
Somewhere along the way The Birdhouse* was born. *So named by locals due to the lack of a roof and the feathered friends who took up residence for a long while.
Furnished with salvaged treasures, locally made soaps and comfy beds -- The Birdhouse is a sustainable adventure.
Two guest suites, each with a full kitchen and a private bath, provide guests an unusual respite in the Catskills. PLEASE NOTE EACH SUITE IS A SEPARATE RENTAL. We will send a special offer to you if you are looking for both suites.
After an extensive 5-year renovation and restoration The Birdhouse in Hancock is happily outfitted with a geothermal heating system, energy star rated/energy efficient appliances and fixtures, non-toxic finishes, low-flow faucets, Watersense toilets, restored 100 year-old floors, original moldings, reclaimed doors, and recycled furnishings.
There are some good spots to eat. Some antiquing and a winery nearby. A smokehouse as well, reviewed by Anthony Bourdain.
And the beautiful Delaware River is a 5 minute walk.
Scenic, hiking nearby. Local food adventures. And a bakery downstairs.
Please note we are located in a small river village. There is a bus that goes to Hancock, NY. Via car: 2 1/2 hours form NYC via major highways.
Great stopover on the NYC to Toronto drive.
Our stay at the birdhouse was great. The accommodations were comfortable and an interesting mix of industrial and vintage elements. Anna, the on-premises housekeeper, was available when we arrived and was quite helpful. Jackie was a great host, working through the booking expeditiously. I would be happy to stay there again.
I would highly recommend a length of any stay at the Birdhouse! The lodging is very comfortable and clean and the surrounding town and area are quite peaceful. Jackie is a pleasure to deal with and will make sure you enjoy your stay.
My faithful companion and I stayed in the Owls Nest for one month. Living in the restored vintage building was safe, private, and rustic chic. The care taker was very helpful and made me feel welcome. The star of the Birds Nest is that it is in the Catskills. The Delaware river is gorgeous, as is the surrounding immense forest ( I was there in Fall )! The other main attraction was it's great location for someone wanting to explore the NE. I traveled to NYC, Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont.. jumping on the Appalachian trail along the way! I had a great time at the Birds nest, in Hancock, and in NY. Thanks A and J!
My husband and our newborn stayed at the Cuckoo. Everything was satisfactory and convenient. Upon Jackie's very helpful suggestions, we checked out the Delaware Delicacies and Blue Stone Grill and enjoyed both experiences very much.
Jackie is very thorough and responsive. The apartment is tastefully furnished and comfortable. It beats being in one of the motels in the area. You won't be disappointed.
Jackie was a great communicator and quickly stepped in to help with a last minute accomodation need! The Nest was lovely and clean, and just what we needed to rest weary heads! Fab decor too. Would definately stay with Jackie again.
Accurate description, helpful treasue map and a lovely place to make a nest in for the night. :) Thanks kindly Jackie!
Exactly what it says on the site - a really lovely space in a very peaceful and pretty little town. I stayed for a month and could quite happily have stayed longer. Highly recommended for anyone looking for peace and quiet in beautiful surroundings.
The Birdhouse is adorable and comfortable, chic and understated. The apartment is in proximity to many charming eateries and stores as well as daily necessities. It's nestled in a lovely natural setting, with easy hikes and serene vistas in all directions.
The apartment has most everything you need for a stay of any length, including toiletries, kitchen necessities, and bedding.
I would definitely stay again.
We had a fantastic time at the birdhouse. Jackie was a great communicator and was incredibly thoughtful when she had to make some last minute changes. The apartments are beautiful, the beds are comfortable and the location is great. Definitely make the trip to the Delaware Delicacies smokehouse, that was a highlight. We will be back one day!
