Studio Lux is a private, spacious & tranquil self-contained apartment in a converted photo studio located in a unique Tuscan-style tower.

A perfect post-lockdown hideaway - minutes from some great walking & mountain biking tracks, yet only 5 minutes to the restaurants, cafe's & bars of Cuba Street.

with State Highway 1 only 5 minutes, Courtenay Place, Te Papa, & the waterfront under 10 minutes, and the airport 15-20 minutes away, Studio Lux is the perfect home base for your Wellington stay.

The space
This self-contained apartment is a stylish converted photography studio in Brooklyn. The 'Lux' in the name refers to a measurement of light in a nod to its former function, while also alluding to the high standards we set for ourselves.

The spacious open-plan living & sleeping area occupies the entire ground floor, and opens out onto a sunny, secluded deck, with vistas over Polhill Reserve. Please note that the the main living area is down a flight of stairs on the level below the kitchenette and bathroom facilities (the building is, after all, a tower), so this space may not be suitable if you are infirm or find stairs inconvenient.

46 inch HDTV with Chromecast, hi fi audio system, and an Apple Lightning connector dock for you to enjoy your own music or simply charge your phone. (Note there is no free to air TV except via Chromecast app.)

Comfortable Posturepedic queen-sized bed with an electric blanket plus a double sofa-bed allows the space to accommodate up to 4 guests. Note that the bed and sofa-bed are in the same area. (Refer to photographs). It is quite spacious, and there are 2 moveable screens for privacy, but the apartment isn't suitable if you require separate bedrooms.

FOOD
For breakfast, we offer a choice of fresh home-made sourdough bread/preserves; or muesli and fruit, as well as a selection of teas, and freshly-ground, locally roasted plunger coffee.

We DON'T offer full cooking facilities, as our guests generally prefer to take advantage of Wellington's many and varied eateries while they are here. However, the kitchenette has a sink, fridge, microwave, toaster, and kettle, as well as all essentials you might need such as coffee plunger, wine/beer/water glasses, chopping board, cork screw, crockery & cutlery etc.

OTHER FACILITIES
★ Wifi. (Ultra Fast Broadband)
★ 46 inch HDTV with Chromecast
★ Hi Fi Audio System
★ Lightning dock for iPhone
★ Electric blanket
★ Sunny deck with table and chairs.
★ Hairdryer.
★ Iron and ironing board.
★ Filtered drinking water tap.
★ One of the couches converts to a double bed, allowing up to 4 people to be accommodated.
★ The Tuscan-style tower building also houses Pauline's boutique hair dressing salon, Salon Bella. (By appointment)
★ Free off street parking

A NOTE ABOUT OUR POST-LOCKDOWN CLEANING PROTOCOLS
Ensuring our Airbnb guests stay safe by thoroughly cleaning and disinfecting all hard surfaces and frequently touched surfaces such as light switches, door handles, remotes, handrails, bannisters etc. before they check in is a number 1 priority. We also provide hand sanitiser, and ask that guests use it before entering the space.

Guest access
Access to the 'Tuscan tower' is past our house. It is not visible from the road as it is hidden by trees. Be aware that the accommodation space shares the entrance door and hallway with my office, and the upper level of the tower is occupied by Salon Bella - Pauline's hair salon.

Other things to note
PARKING AND ACCESS
There is off street parking on our car pad in front of the property, and easy (level) access past our house to the tower entrance. Access to the living & sleeping area from the kitchenette and bathroom level is via a flight of stairs, so the space isn't suitable for people for whom stairs are a problem.

AV/ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM
The studio has a 46 inch HDTV with Chromecast, and HiFi audio system. Connect your own Netflix account or any Chromecast compatible streaming service via your mobile device, or just chill to music via the provided Lightning dock. Please note there is no free to air TV other than via Chromecast app.

Note that the audio volume can be turned up very LOUD, so please be considerate and keep the volume within reasonable limits - particularly between 7.00 AM and 7.00 PM. (Unless you're playing Bob Dylan :).

ONLY BOOKED GUESTS ARE ALLOWED ON THE PROPERTY EXCEPT BY PRIOR AGREEMENT.

PETS & WILDLIFE
We have 2 cats on the property who's job is to catch rats and mice. They are very friendly, but they know to keep clear of your space.

The property backs onto bush reserve, but we are fortunate in New Zealand to be free of snakes, dangerous spiders and other nasty creatures. You are likely see and hear some of the prolific birdlife of the area, which includes native Tui, Kereru (the native wood-pidgeon, Kaka (a native parrot), Fantails, and others.

SMOKING
Smoking is only allowed outside on the deck, provided the doors are closed and butts disposed of considerately (and NOT tossed into the bush :).

Location

Wellington, New Zealand

We are conveniently located five minutes drive from the restaurants, cafe's and bars of the Cuba Street precinct, and only ten minutes from the CBD and waterfront. The motorway north is just 5 minutes away, and the airport is a scenic 15-20 minute trip via the south coast.

Wellington is known as New Zealand's craft beer capital, and there are a many bars and brew-pubs offering a wide selection of excellent craft beers - both local, and from further afield. There are also many good restaurants ranging from fine-dining to cheap and cheerful.

Brooklyn village has an excellent local restaurant (Salty Pidgin), only 10 minutes walk away with a selection of craft beers on tap, an award-winning wine list, and good food. Brooklyn also has a great little cinema called 'The Penthouse' with 4 screens and a cafe, a bar, and a few other restaurants, cafe's, and takeaways.

If walking is your thing, there are a number of great bush tracks on our doorstep (accessible from the end of Karepa Street - 3 minutes walk away). Brooklyn's iconic wind turbine is about 30 minutes uphill walk from here, and offers panoramic views of Wellington harbour.

Hello and welcome! I'm a photographer and online entrepreneur and my wife Pauline is a hairdresser. We built our ‘Tuscan’ tower next to our house to work from, in 2000, after being inspired by a trip to Italy - particularly San Gimignano, in Tuscany. With most of my photography nowadays being on location, we recently converted my studio to a unique Airbnb studio apartment. While we both grew up in the South Island (me in Christchurch, and Pauline on her family farm near Westport on the west coast), we consider ourselves proud Wellingtonians, have made our home here for the past 30+ years. We look forward to welcoming you to “The Studio”, and helping to make your stay in Wellington memorable! Forrest & Pauline
