The Space

Our house is right on the waters edge. Located on a protected harbor where from the deck or front patio you see birds soaring and bathing and fishing along with seals swimming right in front of you. Kayakers and small sailboats sailing from the HMB yacht club. Fishing boats going out to sea, a small fishing pier, the wide open ocean, the fresh ocean air, and the rise and fall of the tide. We are on the coastal trail, great for biking and walking.

A 10 min walk to a surfing beach either beginning to intermediate. A 10 min walk to the famed Mavericks, which depending on conditions varies from intermediate to expert-crazy surfing. Old growth Redwood forest hikes are a 30 minute drive. Kayak/wetsuit rentals a 5 min walk, surfboard/boogie board/wetsuit rental a 5 min drive. Fishing boat tours and the fishing pier is a 5 min walk, horseback riding rentals a 5 min drive.

There are several fine restaurants within 10 min walking distance and more within 10 min driving. Music at two locations within walking distance and more with 10 min driving. Fitzgerald Marine Preserve is 2 miles away.

In this house you will find a setting which offers both a cozy place to settle in as well as a very centrally located base camp for your adventures of the coast and the bay area. We are a 30 min drive to San Francisco, 45 min drive to Silicon Valley, 55 min drive to Santa Cruz.

This room is like the helm of a ship. The double doors open out to a deck with unobstructed views of the ocean and the harbor. It includes a private bathroom with a soaking tub for two and a shower with duel heads as well. It has an organic king size bead and can accommodate two people and an extra little one if need be.

  • We had the most wonderful stay! We wished we had booked the location for longer! Although Mike was out and about when we checked in, he have a wonderful virtual tour over the phone and was more than willing to answer any questions we had. Walking distance to many restaurants and hiking areas. We couldn't recommend this room enough!

  • My husband & I got married in Santa Cruz and decided to take a mini honeymoon before our real one.. We stayed at the Sea House room with the private deck, which looked right out to the harbor.. It was a beautiful place! Plan on coming back again in the future! Plenty of things to do and places to eat within walking distance! Mike showed us around the house and informed us a little about the town when we first arrived and then left us completely alone unless we had a question. Overall a wonderful stay!

  • This was an absolutely perfect launching place for our honeymoon bike trip on the CA coast! My husband and I had an amazing time here in this spacious, bright, air-filled room. The private deck overlooks the water, and the tub in the bathroom is the best! Mike was especially welcoming and helpful in getting us on the road with full photo documentation of our departure! We loved this place and would definitely return if we are in the area again. Highly recommended!

  • We had a wonderful experience at the HMB Seahouse! Mike and Harriet were wonderful hosts. It was very comfortable to talk to them when we needed to but they were very much un-intrusive by nature.
They room was as good as advertised (they probably undersell it a bit). Everything you could possibly need is within a very short walk. My wife is a light sleeper and we both wore ear plugs the first night (for the fear that we would be awakened by the fog horn) but on the second night we both forgot to put them in and slept just as good as we did the first night.
It was fun meeting people from other places but you really only meet people briefly during your stay since everyone is there for the same reason: rest and relaxation away from the cardboard box mentality of a typical hotel. It was very nice to have a casual "home away from home" feel in a very beautiful place with wonderful people.

  • The host was very courteous and helpful in every way. The room was gorgeous and everything we expected. Highly recommended for a romantic getaway - we were celebrating an anniversary.

  • My wife and I just spent 3 days and 4 nights in this lovely, large room. The photos do it justice. There is an expansive view of the harbor from the room, a private deck immediately outside, as well as a fabulous large bathroom with soaking tub and elegant shower. In sum, the room makes a perfect retreat at a reasonable price. It's hard to leave!

There are plenty of restaurants within walking distance, lining the harbor, or you can use the kitchen downstairs for your meals, where you are given your own refrigerator space. Your hosts Mike and Harriet have thought things out quite well, so living in their home is very easy. Of course there's lots to do along the many beaches lining this coast. We rented bikes one day for a beautiful ride along the ocean.

There is a fog horn in the harbor, so if you are a light sleeper, you may want to bring ear plugs.

  • H & M are lovely and the house is incredible, even more than I expected. Right in front of the beach and with all amenities you need. They allow to us to have an wonderful private dinner and they make a fire on the deck for us!
The room is luxurious and we had an amazing time here!

  • This was one of our favorite places we have ever stayed. The room was large, clean, and comfortable, and the views can't be beat! There are several great restaurants and shops just down the street. My wife and I stayed here during our honeymoon before we flew out of San Francisco. Our only regret was that we didn't have more time to relax here.

We are coast loving people. We, Harriet and Mike have lived on the coast for about twenty years and have five grown daughters, three of which we raised in this house. Mike is a kayak instructor and certified alchemical hypnotherapist, while Harriet is a health practitioner. For fun.....We walk on the beach every day and we love the weather, be it sunny or foggy. We love the ocean and regularly get in it, either on a kayak or a boogie board. The new water sport Harriet is excited to try is stand-up paddle boarding. When we go on vacation, we take more road trips than flights and tend to stay on the coast. Mike plays bass guitar and we both like flamenco music. We have a little dog (don't tell him he's little), who is part jack russel and blue heeler. He is older now and much more quiet. Lately we have been enjoying the Pie Ranch Barn Dance. Its a little rowdy, a lot of fun and anyone can go.We are very friendly and we welcome you to utilize our wealth of information of the area. We also appreciate the retreat and solitude that this natural setting can offer.
