Interaction with Guests
We warmly welcome our guests and are happy to share local knowledge, information, advice, and generally chat over a coffee, tea, beer or wine.......or to leave guests to their privacy. B. In F. has a lovely friendly atmosphere and is quite cosmopolitan. It is situated within England's largest, famous, Lake District National Park. Many people visit, and find that they end up living here as it has so much to offer! We are surrounded by beautiful countryside, with lots of lovely walking. There are pubs, shops, cafés and more (please do take the time to look at the guidebook pegs for lots of local places of interest!)
Car travellers can park in the Square on arrival. Foxfield Station is approx. 2 miles away (on the West Coast line), South to Barrow in Furness or North to Carlisle (we can pick up guests arriving at Foxfield Station by prior arrangement). There are buses to & from Millom, Ulverston & Barrow, (from the Square). During high days and holidays extra buses to Ambleside/ Ravenglass are laid on.
Other Things to Note
Barrow in Furness (13 miles) is our major shopping town and has everything you would expect of a large town/city. Ulverston is a traditional market town, very quaint. The nearest small supermarkets are in Millom (7 miles).
We want our guests to relax in our home and enjoy our wonderful town and it's glorious surroundings. Mucky walking boots to be taken off before entering the house please. We are non-smokers so absolutely no smoking or 'vaping' within the house, outside only. Other than that, mutual respect.
This was the first time we had tried AirBnB and it suited us perfectly. Sheila and Dave were exceptional hosts, making us feel welcome immediately we arrived. We felt we had made good friends over the weekend. Sheila was happy to share her kitchen and we joined them in their family room. Sheila was very helpful with information on how to make the best of our time touring around the area and the recommendations for eating at local pubs that suited our budget
Thank you so much for your lovely feedback :-) We really appreciate your enjoyment of our home! It seems that what we're doing with Airbnb is on the right track! We thoroughly enjoyed sharing our home with you, it was relaxed and easy! Just the way we like it. Guests such as yourselves is what we really like about sharing our home, and seriously, I think you guys would be lovely hosts should you decide to go that route in the future. Thanks again for your lovely chocs! We would be glad for you to return sometime should the urge to explore the Lakes grab you (in lovelier weather!)
Sheila and Dave are lovely people to stay with. We were very comfortable in their lovely home. They helped us with tourist info, took us to their allotment and gave us some of their home- grown vegetables! Go and stay with them! You'll have a good time.
Sheila and Dave is perfect host that helped us in all respect. We did enjoy staying with them.
Thank you Sheila and Dave
Sheila and Dave were extremely gracious hosts who made our stay very comfortable. Sheila is very knowledgeable about the Lake District, which she clearly loves. The house is nice, clean and comfortable. Thanks for everything, Sheila and Dave!
Here we got a warm welcome. Bright and spacious bedroom, kitchen and easy to use. Every morning the owner as we prepare for a very fresh bread, milk, cereal, Sheila will explain to us about daily tours. The detailed map lent us. We talk to her at night, watching their family photos. Although we do not speak English, but Sheila is the name of the wise teacher, she would communicate with the computer software and we translate Chinese. We liked her, like her husband, like her family.
This was the absolute perfect place to stay with such welcoming hosts! It is such a beautiful little area and the locals are so kind, they loved talking with us. The room we stayed in was very spacious, the bed was extremely comfortable, and the house was so cute! The hosts were so patient and helpful with us - they gave us rides when we did not have any to Coniston lake, but the locals helped out with that too! Overall, it was an incredible experience staying here and I wish I could have stayed longer! Perfect hosts, perfect home, perfect vacation. If you don't stay here, you are seriously missing out on a once-in-a-lifetime experience! The area is breathtaking in and of itself.
Emilee, thank you so much! It was an absolute pleasure to host you and Kathryn. It is our pleasure to have helped with you seeing places you enjoyed seeing, and yes, our neighbourhood is extremely warm and friendly to new people in town, especially towards people as lovely as you are. We are truly blessed to live where we do, and are so glad that we are sharing our home through Airbnb.... our home comes alive with more people to share it with!
Thank you again for your company and mighty fine comments!

I've loved living at Laurel Bank for the past 18 years. I used to do B&B early on. During those few years I had people from all over staying here. It will be good fun to rekindle those days!
I work as a T.A. at a local primary school (since 2000)
My husband, Dave, has lived here since 2003. He has his own business in joinery & carpentry. We love our village life.
Our home is at it's best with more people around. Our children (6 in all) have grown and left the nest (most still near to home), leaving us with 5 spare bedrooms! Our larger families (& friends) are from Liverpool, Nottingham & New Zealand, and they all love visiting us for good company, food, walks and real ale.
We love our local walks, short strolls and lengthier, more challenging, right from our doorstep. We also love our touring caravan, and often choose sites very close to home as our area is so gorgeous.
Travelling the world was a huge part of my life before children, and since Dave and I have hooked up we've enjoyed trips to Bulgaria, Spain, Singapore and best of all, New Zealand, touring in a camper van, north to South, visiting family.
When not working, walking or touring, we relax with good home cooked meals, movies, music, TV, reading, wine, ale........different sorts of all of them.......variety is the spice of life!
We have grand children now, and love their visits and the calm when they've gone home. Our home is very 'child friendly'.
We look forward to meeting new visitors to our friendly home
