Interaction with Guests
My wife and I live nearby and will show you how everything works. We are keen to help in any way we can, but happy to leave you as you please.
Cottesloe is one of the best located swimming beaches in Western Australia with great walks, local bars, lots of restaurants, local supermarket and takeaway options just up the road.
We have free bikes available or the nearest train station is just 10 minutes walk where you can travel to Claremont, Subiaco and Perth City in one direction or go explore the port City of Fremantle the other way. Also a local bus on our street goes directly to Perth.
Other Things to Note
The famous Cottesloe main beach is about 10 minutes walk south, otherwise our local beach has a great swimming and snorkelling spot just 5 minutes away. There is a great farmers market on Saturdays just a short drive away.
This is a residential area and we expect our guests to respect our neighbours peace and privacy at all times. Definitely no loud parties or anti social behaviour. Absolutely NO SMOKING allowed inside the Villa, outdoor smoking is okay.
David was a very friendly and helpful host. The space was very cute and spacious enough for our family of 4 to spread out and relax. (One thing ro note is thay the bathroom is off the main bedroom so kids needed to come through our room to use it. Not a problem for us, though). We were sorry to leave, it was really lovely and well stocked with many thoughtful comforts of home.
David, Iris and Peter were exceptional hosts. Our flight was delayed and we arrived six hours later than scheduled, around 8:30 pm; no problem. They greeted us warmly and set us up for the night. We had our one and half year old with us, and they had gone so far us to provide a travel cot (we call it a 'pack and play' in the States), a small diaper kit with wipes etc, and Iris even let us use a train set that her kids had used. That was a big hit, and really helped our toddler feel at home in the place.
The house is itself is in a terrific location, a three minute walk from the beach and equidistant to the Transperth bus into town. David supplied us with loaded up bus cards that we used for the duration of our trip and then refilled at the end. That couldn't have been easier. For those that have a car, there seemed to be easy street parking. The grocery store is a few blocks away, and there are beach cafes handy for breakfast, coffee, etc. But because of the rain (and the toddler) we actually had more meals in the house than we would have anticipated, and the place is well equipped. Great Nespresso coffee, enough pots to make simple meals, and a full fridge. Bed is comfortable, shower is terrific with plenty of hot water. And David is on hand for anything you might need. He even offered to let us use his dryer (the place has a washer but no dryer) since it was raining and we couldn't hang our laundry on the line. Cottlesloe is gorgeous and accessible. For those with kids, there's a playground on the corner of Grant and Marine Parade (I believe), and another a few blocks down. Both on the beach and very walkable.
We couldn't have been happier with the neighborhood, the cottage or our hosts. Enjoy Cottlesloe!
David waited for us late night cause we took a turn to shop for grocery before going to his place. When we arrived he showed us how to use the equipments and where to go! Just great talking to him about places to go.
It's been a week now & I'm still very much going through a major post-holiday withdrawal...hehe. I can't say enough about the whole experience. David is a wonderful, wonderful host. From prompt replies to all my enquiries, to nitty gritty length of providing us a comfortable place to stay in. Retro Home live to its name the moment we arrived. The house is exactly as pictured, most importantly...it was clean & as a bonus to us parents - children's friendly! 10 minutes walk from the beautiful Cottesloe beach, we couldn't be happier with the location. David, we (my husband & i + our 2 children) truly appreciate your hospitality & warm welcome. It was our best holiday in a long time : )
The house...is truly a gem!
Again can not recommend highly enough! David and family absolutely brilliant and welcoming. The photos don't do the accommodation justice, very roomy, spacious and private, good size backgarden . Cottesloe is a wonderful area of Perth and Retro Beach is perfectly located for walking to beach, cafes, bike paths etc. Fantastic quiet part of Cottesloe, no traffic noise, felt very safe with my little boy. Everything was thought of...blankets, plugs, beach towels, bikes, tinfoil!, everything you need when travelling with a young family. I do have family in Cottesloe who normally lend me their flat and I am hoping that it is still unavailable when we next come back so I can stay at Retro Beach. Thank you David for everything and we will either stay or pop in and say hello when we are next back. Georgie
A lovely, clean, well equipped little house in a great location a short walk from the beach. The house and host live up to all the positive reviews. Thanks for a lively few days.
David and Iris are great hosts, and super helpful! We arrived during a rainy week and they kindly let us use their dryer after we ran out of clean clothes, I didn't know how to operate the oven (ha!) and David came over and showed me, and they let us use their vacuum cleaner after our twins made a mess in our rental car. The villa itself is beautiful and cozy, and the espresso machine and different types of coffee capsules were a great plus! I especially loved the cozy backyard where my husband and I would sit and enjoy the Cottesloe breeze every night after putting our twins to bed. We're a little bummed that we couldn't take the bikes out due to our short stay, but hoping to come back next year!
