This upcountry neighborhood is a safe and friendly residential area, it is high up enough to be at the beginning of our green belt, where you are surrounded by Hawaii"s lush tropical flora. This is also known as the famous Kona Coffee Belt. Just 1 mile above the house begins a great scenic drive along Hwy 180, a Historic area of Kona. There are many coffee estates for the next 30 miles south, many that do tours, plus breathtaking views of Kailua and the coastline.
Our Island is so big that having a rental car is the best way to see it. There is parking space for 2 vehicles at the house.
Once you are down in Kailua town you can use the Kailua Trolly for getting around Kailua to Keauhou (6 miles south) along the ocean on "Ali'i Drive".
We do have a good public bus system that goes across the island north and south, for bus schedules look up The Hele-On Bus Hawaii County Mass Transit Agency.
There are also Tour buses that go around the island and to other destinations, look up Jack's Tours or Robert's Hawaii Tours.
Aside from from rental cars, there are moped and motorcycle rentals in Kailua.
We have lots of taxi's that also do tours, and to and from the airport, but there is also a Speedi Shuttle Bus to choose from.
Other Things to Note
Our check-in is at 3pm or after, and check-out is by 11am. If you need different times please make arrangements in advance, we will help if the booking schedule allows enough time between guests, and cleaning.
Although we have a strict "No Smoking rule inside the house." we have provided two areas to smoke outside, since our weather is so mild it makes it easy to use these areas. One is in front of the house with a comfortable seating area. The second is on the back Lanai, where table and chairs in 3 different locations around the garden provide plenty of pleasant choices. Be Aware that our state has no smoking laws in any public area, but has provided places for you.
The Palani house should be named the “Mango tree house”! Great backyard with a huge mango tree, we arrived during the mango season and really enjoyed all the fruits in the backyard including the pineapples and papayas. The Palani house ifs more than a vacation rental, it’s a “home” while on Hawaii. A beautiful house with everything you need for your stay: Boogie boards, snorkel gear, chars, beach towels, umbrellas, mats, coolers, BBQ combined with HD TV, a well stocked kitchen, wash machine and dryer. It is centrally located, close to Kona downtown and 15-20m from the airport.
Jeanne prepared a great fruit basket stocked with fruits from the backyard for our arrival. Meeting Jeanne is like meeting an old friend, a guide, biologist, artist, builder all in one and a husband who does fishing tours what do you want more? She spend over an hour when we arrived giving tips for the best snorkel places, surf beaches, local restaurants etc. We stayed with 6 people, the grandparents ourselves and two teenagers, celebrating the grandparents 50th anniversary and my sons graduation. Thanks for making our stay an unforgettable memory!
The house is good, Alan and Jeanne were so nice to stay till 10pm to meet us, due to the late flight. The house is clean and with everything we need. Location is good though one of the bedroom is a bit noisy due to bear the route 19.
Jeanne provided a nice clean house and lots of local info on things to do. The fresh fruit from the trees was a nice bonus. Sorry our stay was so short.
We are lucky to see Alan and Jeanne at home, they are so nice and friendly. the house is clean and beatiful, we love it, thanks for everything .
Alan was very welcoming upon our arrival and gave us lots of friendly local advice and tips for travelling around the Kona region. The house was very clean and only a short drive from the center of Kona - would definitely stay there again! :)
Alan is a great guy, he helped us a lot. The house is huge and warm, make my parents feels like home. Alan take them to green sand beach. My parents enjoy the trip with alan so much. They have a great time. Thanks you.
Jeanne was so warm and welcoming, as was the house itself. She had everything ready and clean, a fruit basket and tons of papaya for us. Rooms were spacious, beds and bathrooms just as described. The house was hard to find at first, and is off of a street that turns into a major highway so it can be a bit dangerous. (I wouldn't recommend walking into town.) With a car, everything is within reach. Plus, Jeanne gives great directions on the itinerary.
I loved staying here for all the room/amenities we had and for the equipment we had access to (i.e. snorkel and beach gear, strollers, toddler toys, toddler toilet seats and step stools). It made our week-long stay much more interesting for my son.
Thank you Jeanne and Alan! You guys were wonderful!
