Interaction with Guests
Aloha give us a call or email/text any time so we can answer your questions about Hawaii and our vacation house, sport fishing or tours, we have earned our 5 star rating with great customer service. We will meet you when you arrive and start you off with a fresh local fruit basket. We can answer any of your questions about the island and where to go.
This upcountry neighborhood is a safe and friendly residential area, it is high up enough to be at the beginning of our green belt, where you are surrounded by Hawaii"s lush tropical flora. This is also known as the famous Kona Coffee Belt. Just 1 mile above the house begins a great scenic drive along Hwy 180, a Historic area of Kona. There are many coffee estates for the next 30 miles south, many that do tours, plus breathtaking views of Kailua and the coastline.
Our Island is so big that having a rental car is the best way to see it. There is parking space for 2 vehicles at the house.
Once you are down in Kailua town you can use the Kailua Trolly for getting around Kailua to Keauhou (6 miles south) along the ocean on "Ali'i Drive".
We do have a good public bus system that goes across the island north and south, for bus schedules look up The Hele-On Bus Hawaii County Mass Transit Agency.
There are also Tour buses that go around the island and to other destinations, look up Jack's Tours or Robert's Hawaii Tours.
Aside from from rental cars, there are moped and motorcycle rentals in Kailua.
We have lots of taxi's that also do tours, and to and from the airport, but there is also a Speedi Shuttle Bus to choose from.
Other Things to Note
Our check-in is at 3pm or after, and check-out is by 11am. If you need different times please make arrangements in advance, we will help if the booking schedule allows enough time between guests, and cleaning.
Although we have a strict "No Smoking rule inside the house." we have provided two areas to smoke outside, since our weather is so mild it makes it easy to use these areas. One is in front of the house with a comfortable seating area. The second is on the back Lanai, where table and chairs in 3 different locations around the garden provide plenty of pleasant choices. Be Aware that our state has no smoking laws in any public area, but has provided places for you.
Jeanne was so warm and welcoming, as was the house itself. She had everything ready and clean, a fruit basket and tons of papaya for us. Rooms were spacious, beds and bathrooms just as described. The house was hard to find at first, and is off of a street that turns into a major highway so it can be a bit dangerous. (I wouldn't recommend walking into town.) With a car, everything is within reach. Plus, Jeanne gives great directions on the itinerary.
I loved staying here for all the room/amenities we had and for the equipment we had access to (i.e. snorkel and beach gear, strollers, toddler toys, toddler toilet seats and step stools). It made our week-long stay much more interesting for my son.
Thank you Jeanne and Alan! You guys were wonderful!
Location: 3/5 10 mins to town, unless there is rush hour traffic, which could double the time. The house is VERY difficult to find, especially when it is dark at night. A flag on the mailbox would have been nice to help identify the house. Greeting: 3/5 Jeanne was accommodating of our schedule. Our flight was delayed 4 hours, so we didn't get in until 9 PM. We appreciated her waiting and the tour and explanation of the house. However, it was 3 AM our time in the East Coast and we were exhausted from traveling and being awake for almost 24 hours straight. All we wanted was to drop our bags, get the key to the house so she didn't have to keep waiting, get dinner and groceries, then go to bed. While we appreciated her excitement and desire to provide information (even though I had mentioned I had been coming to the island for many years) she kept talking for at least 30 minutes. Supplies: 5/5 We could find pretty much everything we needed: snorkel and fins of various sizes, towels, ziploc bags, tupperware, condiments, coffee, etc. Space: 4/5 The small 3rd bedroom with the twin beds is very stuffy. We ended up taking the mattresses out to the living room and slept there. Perhaps enlarging the window might help. Cleanliness: 2/5 # 1: clutter While the house is well stocked, it is also very cluttered. The house can accommodate 4-6 people, but I counted ~30 mugs, ~30 plates of each size, trays, glasses, martini and wine glasses enough for opening a catering business. With only 4-6 guests at a time, I wonder which plates never got used and had not been washed recently. The garage is also cluttered with various knick knacks and unpleasant to look at. # 2: mold in the back of the fridge door and shower curtain. The pantry, while well stocked, is very stuffy. I wonder how old some of those things were. I found a large roach on the kitchen counter. While one might argue that bugs are found in Hawaii, I also know that roaches are attracted to unsanitary conditions. We didn't use the washing machine because I opened it and saw gunk under the cover and I had no interest in using it. # 3: dust everywhere - blinds, side tables, decorative fake plants, etc. I went to Hawaii for fresh air but woke up each morning sneezing and with swollen eyes and stuffy nose. # 4: Dirty linens - I am also an AirBNB host and I use a waterproof cover for my guest's pillows. I brought my own, and I could smell someone's drool on the pillows that I didn't cover. I highly doubt the blankets were washed, they didn't feel clean at all as I could smell some "human scent". I didn't sign the guest book. I saw some pages had been torn, so mine would have been too. I don't think I would rent this house...
We thought the house had everything we needed. Well stocked for living there 9 days. The neighborhood was noisy and the street in front was very busy. We were comfortable there. Our hostess came the day before we left and I had talked to her twice before that.
Aloha Karen, We are in the process of re-landscaping the back, sides and front yards, it's a process we fit in between guest stays as we do not want to be a disturbance. We will be expanding the lanai and paving it in marble pavers, with a lily pond and waterfall.
Mahalo, Jeanne & Aalan
House is big. Equipment is complete. The Host is hospitality. The back garden have the host personally kind of fruit. They are very delicious. Because it is near the road it is very noisy at night. Door is not good and the the bedding is not clean. There is no air conditioning in the house. It is hot for us. And the fan is dirty. A lot of mosquitoes and worm in it so that I was bitten. Sorry
Aloha Mysher, So sorry things weren't just perfect for your vacation. I do know that the information we list with airbnb does show that we do not have AC , but most of the time the ceiling fans in every room do just fine. Coming to Hawaii's warm tropical winters are what draw's people, and with tropical, you will get some bugs and mosquitoes. With all that lush green is the higher moisture that gets dust to accumulate daily on fans that are always on, no matter how often they are cleaned, if you have allergy issues with dust please express these with your hosts before arrival. I can assure you that all bedding, linens and house are always cleaned before your arrival, because I do not job out the work, I personally see to the cleaning and quality details of this rental house, with over 50 rentals this year, we have had excellent reviews on cleanliness and quality. Your thank note was so warm and great full, I am sorry to hear you were not completely happy with your stay. We strive hard to make it as complete as possible while giving you a good deal. Aloha Jeanne & Alan
The house was clean and comfortable, stocked with everything you could possibly need. Our stay was great but too short.
