Railwayman's Cottage is a comfortable 19th century terraced home in the heart of Derbyshire, very close to both Chatsworth House and the Peak District town of Bakewell, and backing on to the beautiful River Derwent that winds gently through the historic village of Rowsley. With lovely views and full of warmth and personality, it is ideal as a base for you to explore this wonderful part of the world.

The space
The terraced cottage features a comfortable lounge with a wood burning stove for relaxing evenings, a king bed in the master bedroom, a double and single bunk bed in the second bedroom, a fully fitted kitchen, dishwasher and washing machine. There are plenty of games for you to enjoy when you're not out and about exploring the stunning local area. Railwayman's Cottage also has a TV and online Freeview box allowing you to access many on-demand TV services, as well as a bluetooth/wifi music system and fast broadband WiFi in case you need to catch up with work.

Guest access
The entire property is yours to access and enjoy including the front and back patio areas. Parking is behind and to the rear of the property and is shared with the other houses. You can also park on the road, however when Chatsworth House have major events on, parking may be limited so as to ease traffic through the village.

Other things to note
One of our neighbour's have friendly cocker spaniels that live outside in their back yard. Cocker spaniels being naturally curious dogs, may wimper to say hello when you are outside as they will sense you are there. The space they live in is cleaned on a daily basis so for your comfort we have put a bench in the front garden so you can enjoy sitting outside should you wish to, when our neighbour is cleaning the space.

Our property is located on one of the direct roads through to Chatsworth House and beyond to the Peak District (which is great for getting out and about), it also means that during the summer there is an increased volume of tourists and therefore traffic. Our cottage is single glazed which means you may hear more traffic going past the property at peak times of the day.

Rowsley is a beautiful historic village with two excellent pubs, a general store and post office, the Peak Shopping Village with gift shops, local produce and outdoor shops and a working water mill and bakery, all within a short walk of Railwayman's Cottage.
For keen cyclists, there is a secure bike store in the back garden and many, many miles of glorious Peak District and Derbyshire Dales to access.

For guests who prefer running shoes or walking boots to wheels, a number of footpaths (many accessible from the front door) will take you deep into the stunning countryside, with forests, dales, waterfalls to explore and glorious views to enjoy.

Bring your swimming gear for a chilly dip in the wild swimming holes of the River Derwent, or if you prefer something warmer, Bakewell has an excellent swimming pool 10 minutes drive from the house and Hathersage has a Victorian open air Lido.

If you are a lover of country houses, Derbyshire will not disappoint, with the famous Chatsworth House and lesser known but equally worth visiting Haddon Hall, all within a 10min drive.

Many historic local villages within Derbyshire are worth a visit too, with Tideswell, Buxton, Matlock, and Eyam within easy reach.

And of course there is the castle and caves in Castleton which make for a year round tourist haven.

Whatever your reason for staying, as the night draws in, you can cook at home and relax by the wood burning stove, or you can enjoy a meal out in either The Peacock or The Grouse and Claret, the 2 well regarded local pubs which are within an easy 10min walk from the property. There are plenty of other pubs to eat at in the local villages which are easily accessible by car. We have placed a number of suggestions in the welcome pack.
