You will truly felt immersed in the city and the people. It's on a great, quiet street with lots of cool fashion boutiques and unique designers. The place itself is clean, and has slightly bosphorus view.
The tramvay, Tunel & old tram are all super close by, making it easy to escape home from the old city.
Your host is ready to make a short orientation to the area and make great local suggestions.
Apt is furnished with towels, clean bedding and functional WiFi. A grocery store is 5m away. Street is generally quiet with kids playing during the day.
It is located in Beyoglu, which is a fantastic point to start either sightseeing, shopping or partying at nights - and yet it is an absolutely quiet studio. There are several small cafés and restaurants nearby, also Istanbuls famous High Street "Istiklal" and the pretty Galata Tower, on top of which you have a magnificent view over the city. If you'd like to go out at nights, try the bars, restaurants and Babylon club which are just 5 mins away by foot. It is unbelievably quiet. You will sleep like a baby.
Neighborhood is safe, with lots of tourists during the day but not crowded like Taksim Square, and is exciting with its vibrant narrow streets to be discovered.
Museums (i.e. Istanbul Modern Art, Pera), exhibition galleries, large stores, restaurants, bars, mosques, churches, synagogues, groceries are all within walking distance.

Everything was excellent. The apartment was very clean and had everything we need, even little details such as shampoo, dishsoap and a clean sponge for the kitchen area. It was easy to find, great location, comfortable bed, good shower, and even had a washer/dryer (which we didn't use) and WiFi (much used). Fatih, who gave us the keys, was very nice and helpful, and provided excellent information regarding the city. We followed many of his suggestions and were highly pleased. We loved our stay and would definitely recommend to a friend.
We spend 7 days in Kaya's studio, and had a wonderful time there. Kaya responded very fast when we had questions and we went out to eat kebab together which tasted great.
The apartment is looks just like on the pictures and the describtion is very accurate. Only the door to the bathroom doenst close but others have already written about it and if you share a bed with someone, you probably can cope with that as well.
The location is awesome, in a district with enough tourists not to feel lost but with many many locals as well. It is just near the Galata Tower where you have all these small cafés and boutiques as well as the main shops on the shopping street in Istanbul. So the location is great for exploring Istanbul.
A thing which is certainly not the host's fault was that we came home twice with a black out, so no electricity at all for like 2 hours and once where we didnt have any running water. The city is to blame for it but it would have been nice if someone had told us about the water which was apparently planned.
However, the say was great and we would always spend it there again!
We spend 5 nights at Kaya's studio and had an incredible experience!!! Every day we remarked how lucky we got with the location! At the end of the block is the stunning Galata tower where you can visit the top and see spectacular views across Istanbul. The square there at the base is bustling with cafes and a perfect place for breakfast in the sunshine. The street leading from the studio apartment to the tower is one of the most charming in Istanbul, filled with local artisans, cafes, handmade jewelry and beautiful ottoman architecture.
Kaya met us late, as our plane didn't arrive until 2am. He arranged a car to meet us at airport (a good idea in the middle of the night). He had the heat cranking so the place was toasty when we arrived, and he walked us around so we got our barrings and gave us some fantastic food recommendations. What a wonderful Christmas holiday we had here. The studio is a perfect base. Simple, clean, nice hot water, fridge, great heat, and lovely light in the morning. You really can not beat the location! Can't wait to be back!!!
We stayed in this studio for 5 nights, after we had already been in Istanbul for about a week. Great location—basically next to the Tünel and the Şişhane metro entrance, a minute or two walk to Istiklal street. Everything in the studio was as described. The room gets great sun, and is very quiet (especially when you consider how convenient its location is). Furnished with everything you would need.
Fatih was a helpful host. He met us at a familiar location to walk us to and showed us the places around the studio. He also made sure we had everything we needed and answered any questions during check-in. Plus, he sent us a good list of food recommendations, and made a reservation for us at his favorite meyhane.
Some quirky things:
- the water heater seems to quickly go through its hot water reserve before needing some time to heat back up. Just something to keep in mind before you take your first shower, if you don't want to have to finish with only cold water in the winter :)
- the shower area has 2 windows in it that leads into the main room. They're about head-level for my friend and I. Wasn't an issue or anything in terms of compromising your privacy but you could peak in/out if you wanted/are taller?
- the bathroom door handle was loose, so it didn't close completely, but the door stayed pulled-to, so it was okay
I'd definitely stay here again. The size of the studio is perfect, and it coming back to it at night after a full day of Istanbul's hustle actually felt like home.
It was a great stay in a very nice apartment in a perfect location. Kaya was very friendly, he explained us how to get from the a/p, showing us directions via (website hidden) maps to the meeting point etc. Thank you, Kaya!
It's interesting to note that even armed with GPS, we still failed to locate the apt and had to call Fatih eventually for help getting us to the apt. Communication with the host was not smooth and effective as it should be in initial enquiry. In person, Fatih was nice and friendly. The place in general is clean, tidy, quiet, and the bed is comfortable; also close to the metro Sishane station (not to old town though), the pedestrian walking street and Taskim square.
The place was exactly as described, and it was perfect for our stay in Beyoglu! It's ideally situated about 2 mins walking to Istiklal St, yet on a quiet, charming small street that has a couple very convenient market. The area it's in felt super hip, with small shops, cafes, and designer stores that I might find in my native San Francisco.
Istiklal and Galata areas provide enough to see, within walking distance from this studio, to fill at least a few days of your trip in Istanbul. Though Sultanahmet offers many can't-miss attractions, I felt pretty savvy staying in this part of town and discovering some (not so) hidden gems. Don't miss the antique shops on Cucurkuma Caddessi, the lively restaurants on Fransiz Sok, and all the bars and street life on the streets north of Istiklal (Sofyali Sok treated us right). All this is 10 mins or less, walking, from the studio. Also, the funicular (2nd oldest subway in the world) is very close to this place and extremely convenient.
Fatih was incredibly helpful. We took him up on his offer of a driver from the airport (taxi's a little cheaper, but Fatih's driver needs no directions - a blessing in the tangled streets of Istanbul). When we arrived he had a map of the area and very detailed suggestions of what to do/eat/see in the city. He even sent us an email later that evening with a number of restaurant recommendations. You must ask Fatih for his restaurant recs: he led us to an excellent Anatolian restaurant that had manti to die for.
When our trip was coming to an end, Faith emailed and asked if we'd like him to arrange for a trustworthy taxi to take us to the airport for a set, very reasonable price. Fatih needed no prodding from us; he always anticipated our needs.
Fatih is a perfect host.
The apartment is awesome for 2 people and the location is excellent. Istiklal is 2 minutes away, and walking to Hagia Sophia takes only 30-40 minutes with lots to see on the way (taking the tram is simple and only 5 minutes away also). After spending 10 days in Istanbul I'm convinced that the apt is in an ideal location. Only good things to say all the way around. Would stay again for sure.
Perfect launchpad for exploring Istanbul with a fantastic host!
Fatih arranged for transportation so I could quickly & easily reach the apartment upon my arrival. He sat down with me & the map to gave me a quick orientation so I'd know what to see and how to get there. He continued to be very responsive and helpful for my entire trip.
The apartment was quiet and just the right amount of space. It's in the heart of a super charming neighborhood! There are cafes, restaurants and bars plus plenty of shops all easily accessible on foot. Want to explore further? Just head down the hill and you can take the tram or walk to the old city in no time. Want to see all of Istanbul? Head up the block to Galata Tower at dusk to watch the sun set across the gorgeoues skyline. Want to just take it easy? Grab a cup of tea in one of the coffee shops down the block.
I would recommend Fatih & this studio to any of my friends!!
