Located midway between two popular dive/snorkel sites in Bonaire's chic Sabadeco neighborhood, our beautiful new studio with 16ft ceilings and reliable trade winds has a private gated walkway to the beach. Pool & garden are for your private use only.
Casita Andrea is a studio for one or two people that is located midway between the Andrea I and Andrea II dive/snorkel sites in Bonaire's Sabadeco neighborhood. The studio, which was completed in late 2013, has a private garden, a pool and a private gated walkway to the beach between the Andrea dive sites. The studio is connected to the main house (Villa Andrea) but it is completely separate, and only rented when the main house is not used. The garden and pool are for your use exclusively and our high garden walls ensure complete privacy.
The studio has 16-foot ceilings and traditional wooden louvered windows and doors. The high ceilings and good exposure to the trade winds provide a consistently cool, comfortable and fresh interior. A ceiling fan and air conditioning are available, but you will rarely need these. The studio has a large bathroom and a full kitchen with lots of counter space and a gas cooktop. Note: the oven you see in the pictures does not work!
Because the building is so new, there are a few caveats. First, the oven you see in the pictures is not yet working. Second, our home built solar hot water heater only provides reliable warm water in the afternoon on sunny days. Third, as you can see on the pictures, the garden is a work in progress and our plants and trees are not yet fully grown.
Our studio is ideal for active vacationers. You can put on your dive or snorkeling gear in the studio and walk straight into the sea across the street. If you want to dive or swim at night you have access to our private Sabadeco pier only a five minute drive away. And there are at least 50 easily accessible dive sites within a 20 minute drive.
In addition to well-behaved people we gladly welcome well-behaved pets.
Interaction with Guests
Our property manager will meet you at the airport, take you to the studio, and will be available 24/7 if you need anything. His airport transfers are included in the one-time cleaning fee.
We expect our guests to treat our studio as if it were their own house. Pets are welcome but you must clean up after them, especially on the beach, and you cannot leave them alone, especially if they bark or whine. There is no smoking in the studio.
Hans was a fantastic host, and went out of his way to make our experience delightful. His home is well located for accessing town, as well as north and south dive sites. The studio was very quiet and well maintained. We unfortunately came at a time when the mosquitoes were at an all time high, and they were experts at finding their way in. Make sure to bring ample bug spray!
This studio is beautiful - we especially enjoyed the luxury of the pool in the private yard and the outdoor shower. The location is a bit outside of town, but that makes it mostly quiet (there is some highway noise and periodic goat and donkey noise). The kitchen is perfect for those wanting to cook for themselves, with lots of counter space, a full-size refrigerator, as well as a french press and a panini press which were quite useful. Two portable beach chairs are also provided which came in handy.
We appreciated the responsiveness of the property manager during our stay.
It's important to note that the shower inside is cold-water only. We showered mostly outside as there was sun-warmed water in the afternoons (which was lovely!). It's also important to note that the "beach across the street" is a bit of a distance, and is a fairly rough entry point for snorkeling or diving, and no trees/shelter from the sun. We did walk the beach but determined there were safer beaches nearby for our needs.
The private snorkeler's studio was a great place for a romantic getaway for me and my wife. The property manager met us at the airport and made sure we were comfortable and well looked after. He gave us a tour around the town and pointed out everything we would need to know during our stay. When we first checked in the wireless Internet wasn't working. By the time we came back from snorkeling the next morning it was fixed!
The location of the property is in a subdivision-type development, where there are only a small cluster of buildings. It felt pretty empty, and it was SUPER quiet. Walking outside there are acres of undeveloped land, and you can see all the stars.
We spent the first three days without a car, snorkeling at the local sites, and eating the food and wine we had bought from the local shop - a 20 minute walk away. Then the next three days we rented a truck and checked out the rest of the island. The time without a car was great - relaxing and peaceful - but I can't imagine we'd want to spend more than three days disconnected from the world like that. I'm glad we rented the truck for the second half.
We're vegetarians, and found the restaurant options on the island pretty limited and overpriced. The cooking facilities here allowed us to eat like royalty every night. We found all the cookware, and kitchen essentials we needed in the apartment. There's an excellent supermarket in town. The glassware was a little limited, but we didn't mind that much drinking red wine out of champagne flutes. Life's tough sometimes, and you have to deal ;)
It was great to have excellent snorkeling sites basically right across the street. There's live coral as soon as you put your head under water. The first day out we saw loads of cool fish, and an octopus!
The only downsides to the accommodation were:
- no hot water. Only warmish water at certain times of day. If you're OK with a cool shower in the morning and/or after being in the ocean, then it's not a problem. Remember it's really hot there, so the cool shower is kind of what you want.
- mosquitoes. My wife found she had to wear insect repellent to bed. Mosquitoes don't bother me too much, but they go right for her and eat her alive. We couldn't figure out any other way to keep them at bay.
What else? The bed was comfortable. Towels and sheets were provided. Air conditioning worked fine. The gas stove was great. I was really happy that the tap water was drinkable. The bistro set on the patio was awesome. Clothes dried quickly on the clothesline. No complaints. Consider us happy customers!
I would definitely book this place again.
This studio is private and peaceful. There are no next-door neighbors, so there are no barking dogs nor roosters. There is only occasionally some road noise from cars passing by. There is a constant ocean breeze, which is soothing and keeps the mosquitos away.
The studio itself is simple and feels a bit sterile with its concrete floors, but has the basics you'll need to enjoy your stay. Inside the studio it can seem a bit dark, but you can easily step outside onto the patio to absorb the warm sunshine. The pool area allows for private sunbathing. There is no TV, but the internet was fast enough to stream Netflix.
It is located in a safe neighborhood and there is a supermarket about 1 mile down the road.
Hans is a very friendly and welcoming host with a fascinating world travel schedule. He was very quick to respond to inquiries and easy to communicate with.
We absolutely loved our stay at Hans's studio on Bonaire! The house and the garden are completely private and perfect for honeymooners or anyone who wants to get away. We literally spent a few days without leaving. The garden is absolutely lovely.
At the same time, the house is no more than 15 minutes from anywhere you'd want to go on the island. Glorious snorkeling is just steps away, great dive sites 5 min away, hotel bars and restaurants including the taxi to Klein Bonaire are 5-15 min away, so the location is phenomenal.
The studio was clean and simple with all the basic necessities, the bed was comfortable and we loved showering outdoors after snorkels and swims and, with the lovely bonaire wind, never even had to turn on the air conditioner (though it is available for those who need it).
Hans is a gracious and helpful host. His info on the island and quick responses were greatly appreciated. We can't wait to be back :)
