About this listing
Located midway between two popular dive/snorkel sites in Bonaire's chic Sabadeco neighborhood, our beautiful new studio with 16ft ceilings and reliable trade winds has a private gated walkway to the beach. Pool & garden are for your private use only.
Casita Andrea is a studio for one or two people that is located midway between the Andrea I and Andrea II dive/snorkel sites in Bonaire's Sabadeco neighborhood. The studio, which was completed in late 2013, has a private garden, a pool and a private gated walkway to the beach between the Andrea dive sites. The studio is connected to the main house (Villa Andrea) but it is completely separate, and only rented when the main house is not used. The garden and pool are for your use exclusively and our high garden walls ensure complete privacy.
The studio has 16-foot ceilings and traditional wooden louvered windows and doors. The high ceilings and good exposure to the trade winds provide a consistently cool, comfortable and fresh interior. A ceiling fan and air conditioning are available, but you will rarely need these. The studio has a large bathroom and a full kitchen with lots of counter space and a gas cooktop. Note: the oven you see in the pictures does not work!
Because the building is so new, there are a few caveats. First, the oven you see in the pictures is not yet working. Second, our home built solar hot water heater only provides reliable warm water in the afternoon on sunny days. Third, as you can see on the pictures, the garden is a work in progress and our plants and trees are not yet fully grown.
Our studio is ideal for active vacationers. You can put on your dive or snorkeling gear in the studio and walk straight into the sea across the street. If you want to dive or swim at night you have access to our private Sabadeco pier only a five minute drive away. And there are at least 50 easily accessible dive sites within a 20 minute drive.
In addition to well-behaved people we gladly welcome well-behaved pets.
Interaction with Guests
Our property manager will meet you at the airport, take you to the studio, and will be available 24/7 if you need anything. His airport transfers are included in the one-time cleaning fee.
We expect our guests to treat our studio as if it were their own house. Pets are welcome but you must clean up after them, especially on the beach, and you cannot leave them alone, especially if they bark or whine. There is no smoking in the studio.
From the beginning it was good as somebody was waiting for us at the airport, so the organization was really good, the room in general: lining, toilet, pool, everything was very clean.
For me is very important that it was clean and the place was well maintained and the landlord was all the time available for us for questions, really good !!!
The location is good if you have a car, which I recommend to discover the city, the diving spot walking distance from the house are amazing. And if you don't dive you can snorkel.
A good experience, Thank you !
This studio was AMAZING. It is hard to describe the serenity of the setting, and the nearness of an ALL-ISLAND marine park just waiting at the beach. We snorkeled every day across the street, did a little free diving, enjoyed our wonderful private pool and outdoor shower, and in every way loved this perfect spot from which to enjoy Bonaire. We would come back again in a heartbeat. We rented a scooter and explored the island, cooked at the studio and also enjoyed the recommendations Hans left us in his Casita guidebook. Our favorite dining experience was definitely Karel's - eating on the edge of the dock watching the waves and boats and enjoying the slow, quiet peace of the island. Thanks, Hans, for a marvelous home away from home on Bonaire!
Hans was an excellent host! He was very responsive with great info and suggestions when the airline almost cost us our entire trip due to errors on their end and b/c they don't fly to Bonaire very often. Based on his advice, we were able to figure out a creative travel solution and only missed one day of our vacation. Baasje, the property manager, was also very responsive and quick to set us up with a taxi to an off-site rental car agency when we arrived.
The accommodations at Hans' studio were excellent. The private backyard, pool, and outdoor shower were what really made our stay special. It was also great to have snorkeling just a short distance away, which made it easy for us to make the most of our last day in Bonaire without having to spend time driving around to other snorkel sites. The location of the studio was perfect for us b/c it was just outside of town, so there was minimal noise, there was excellent snorkeling just steps away, there was a grocery within a couple minutes drive for necessities, and just a few more minutes drive to town for all the restaurants.
I should note that there are some issues with petty theft on the island. A local explained that it goes in waves, times when there's more theft and times when there's less. Rental car agencies will likely give you tips on how to secure your goods and the car, as ours did, and I would add that you don't want to leave anything of value on the beach, if you can avoid it, when everyone in your party goes out snorkeling or diving. This isn't anything too outside the normal for all the other islands we have visited, but just wanted to put the info out there for those who don't know.
Other little tidbits from our experience: you can rent a boat to yourself for the whole day for ~$190 plus gas with Le Grande Bleu to visit Klein Bonaire for more great snorkeling, fish, wakeboard, etc. (cheapest rate by far on the island and we had a blast with it), try Little Havana for drinks as they were the strongest and most reasonably priced we found on the island (the bartender is also very nice and likely to chat you a bit), Cuba Compagnie had really great food, great outdoor seating, and attentive service, Between two Buns is an excellent place for lunch (sandwiches were really excellent and tons of options for dessert), and lastly, if you plan to go to the Washington Slagbaai National Park and/or to see the caves with Indian inscriptions you must have a truck and be prepared to spend a significant chunk of your time and energy as the roads are really rough (this is not to discourage anyone from going by any means, but just a tip to better prepare you for what to expect and how to plan your trip).
My husband and I had a wonderful time @ Han's studio. Adequately furnished studio, quiet location, 15 minutes north of airport/ shopping/ Kralendiyk . Very comfortable bed. Definently need water shoes to enter water @ Andreas 1/2. Found the best snorkeling in the National Park @ Wakeme 2- nice sandy entry and could take photos right at your feet! Nice private studio but not a water view but can go thru thru 2 locked gates and see the ocean across the street. Would recommend.
We loved staying at Hans' place! It is a beautiful apartment, pool, and terrace. The apartment was clean and had a great kitchen for making most of our meals there. The location was great. Hans was very responsive after we requested the booking and helped us with a lot of information on renting a car, and renting dive equipment. The property manager met us at the airport and led us to the apartment, which was very convenient. The manager was responsive to an issue with the internet not working, which we appreciated. Other people have mentioned problems with mosquitos, but we had no problems with bugs inside the apartment as I think we closed the doors early enough that they weren't let in. We would highly recommend this apartment to anyone coming to Bonaire! I would certainly stay there again if we are lucky enough to be coming back to Bonaire. Thank you, Hans!
great setup, nice pool and backyard just for us, fun, breezy setup, decent range, good fridge, cool showers; nice walk to two different snorkel sites, secluded in a quiet neighborhood.
