This lovely green area borders the Natural Regional Park of Périgord-Limousin, and is a favourite holiday location for nature lovers. Its landscape of rolling hills, pastures and woodlands is a delightful venue for walking, cycling or traffic free driving in the countryside, where you may explore charming villages.
In addition within a 10 minutes drive there is a man made lake and beach at Rouffiac with water skiing, boating and swimming.
There are an abundance of medieval and renaissance villages and hamlets to explore within the region including Sarlat, St Jean de Cole and Brantome. However, if you prefer a more structured approach there are sufficient chateaux, museums and art galleries as well as guided tours of the area's underground cave systems, including the impressive cave paintings at Lascaux II and Rouffignac, to engage the mind.
The ancient village of Segur-le-Chateau is on our doorstep, where you can visit the ruins of the once glorious Chateau, the town has a peaceful river flowing through. Why not take a riverside picnic or visit the restaurant, in July and August there are evening markets with barbeques and lively traditional music.
As the accommodation is in the country some form of transport is advised. The nearest shops and restaurants are 3 miles away.
Pat and Chris were excellent hosts. They had an amazing welcoming pack of food for us. The best thing for us was having the babies bed and the wonderful toys for the little ones. We loved their place and enjoyed sitting outside sharing life stories over the wonderful French wines. We also loved the region, one of our favourite so far in France.
Our stay at Pat and Chris' gite was perfect! Our hosts were friendly and helpful, and the cottage was very well appointed and supplied with all our needs. The location was quietly rural, but there were many attractions within an hour for sightseeing, shopping and restaurants. It was convenient to the many prehistoric caves with their fabulous cave art paintings and etchngs. We would definitely return to their gite.
We had a lovely stay in Pat and Chris's cottage. As the other reviews have all said, the cottage has all the amenities you could need and is charming We particularly enjoyed sitting out in the back garden and watching for the deer in the evening. There is plenty to see around the local area and we really enjoyed the local villages and chateux. Pat and Chris were very helpful with suggestions of local attractions and sites. Highly recommended.
We had a wonderful time in Sarlande! The cottage is all you can wish for and Pat and Chris are very enthousiastic hosts. Chris takes great pride in a very clean house and she does a great job! She even provided a welcome pakkage that made us feel very welcome indeed.
We fully enjoyed the backgarden with lots of space, so we could chose between sun and shade. And also the surroundings of Sarlande are well worth visiting. We visited Oradour, which is an experience in itself. And we pick nicked on the riverbank in Brantome, avoiding the crowds in the restaurants. It was heaven.
If you are searching for a good address to relax, see the countryside, have some nice Frensh lunches and meet attentive hosts, you should definitely check out Pat and Chris' place!
We spent a wonderful time in Pat and Chris’s picturesque gite in Puy Navard. It was just as depicted in the photos – clean, cosy and comfortable. A welcoming quiche, bottle of wine and other essentials were most appreciated. Pat and Chris shared their obvious love of the Perignod with lots of ideas and information on all possible topics. The area is just beautiful with many lovely villages, chateaux and lakes close by. It is a great base for exploring, but your own car is necessary as it would be difficult to get by relying on public transport. Make sure you visit one of the local markets – Brantome (Friday) or Thiviers (Saturday). Gastronomically speaking, we can highly recommend ‘a Table’ in St Jean de Cole and the upmarket Auberge de la Truffe in Sorges. Pat will also direct you to the ‘workman’s lunch’ in the local village – a great experience! Merci beaucoup!
This cottage is perfect for a holiday in the Perigord/Dordogne. It is located in a quiet area, with the necessary supermarkets and some restaurants only a short distance away. The gite is fully equipped with everything you could need for a self catering holiday stay and is comfortably furnished and very clean. The area is very quiet and relaxing. The friendly hosts Pat and Chris, able to provide suggestions for things to do in the area. This is an enjoyable and recommned stay.
David, Rita and Marian have enjoyed a very pleasant stay in Puy Navard!! we are very happy with the hosts, Pat and Chris!
Pat and Chris have been really lovely to us and the have provided everything we needed. With our one year old daughter, Rita, they have given many toys and she was really excited about all of them. Upon arrival we did a cheese cake and a salad with lettuce from his garden that was really delicious. We also had bread, jam, cereal, tea, coffee and milk for breakfast.
Puy Navard is a beautiful and quite place, with a beautiful landscape. The Pat and Chris home is very cozy and charming, with a huge garden where we can saw a deer!!!. There we could enjoyed a barbecue and a beautiful sunset. Pat and Chris living in the house next door and was very comforting for us to can talk with them after our daily trips around the area. They have a garden with tomatoes, onions, lettuce, etc., and got to try their delicious tomatoes!
We are very happy with the experience and hope to return another time!
Pat's and Chris's cottage (gite) is an absolutely fabulous way to enjoy the peace and quiet of the Perigord (Dordogne) region. Clean as a whistle, very well-appointed, the cottage was a welcome respite after our week of hustle and bustle tourism in Paris. The cottage is surrounded by picture-postcard farms and fields, and is only a 20 minute dirve from Chateau Hautefort (a must-see in the Dordogne), 20 mins from Jumilhac le Grand, and 15 minutes from a great swimming lake. It is an easy hour drive to the more heavily frequented areas of Sarlat and Montignac during which you pass beautiful village after village, castle after castle. Our two kids (15 and 11) loved staying at the cottage (as did we) - and we were all sorry to see our time in this magical place come to an end. We would recommend Pat's and Chris's cottage to anyone who wants to experience a more laid-back, relaxing vacation in France. Definitely rates 5 stars.
Beautiful place in the countryside with lovely hosts, Pat and Chris. They greeted us warmly and offered food and drink upon our arrival, which was lovely, given our arriving without having eaten in a while. The gite had everything that could possibly be needed and was very clean and inviting. Our hosts were very gracious in helping supply directions for getting around in the countryside, and this was wonderful, as we are not strong "map people".
You definitely need a car in this location, as driving to any of the sites was quite a ways to drive.
