About this listing

Cozy up to the fireplace for a relaxing evening in the heart of everything San Luis. This charming 600 sq ft upstairs apartment in a small tri-plex is perfectly located just 2 short blocks to beautiful, lively downtown San Luis Obispo. It’s an easy walk to restaurants, unique shops, the Mission, wine tasting, art viewing and the famous farmers market on Thursday night and less than one mile to Cal Poly.

The space is stylishly decorated, comfortable and selectively furnished, leaving you lots of room to sprawl, enjoy the art and make yourself at home. The full kitchen/dining is stocked with everything you need for cooking meals if you choose as well as a list of our personal, local favorite restaurants and coffee shops to experience if you would rather head out and explore our town’s numerous dining options. As the evening winds down you will likely want to curl up next to the fireplace on the comfy couch to watch a movie or call it a night cuddling up in the sublimely comfortable California king bed, welcoming you with a sumptuous down comforter and soft cotton bedding for a quite nights sleep. Upon awakening, we have a drip coffee funnel with filters, grinder etc. to whip up a wicked “pour over” cup o’ joe as well as a variety of teas and an electric kettle for boiling water. Coffee shops are also 2 blocks away. The bathroom has a tub and shower, hair dryer and all your showering amenities. There is a laundry room downstairs if you need to do some washing for your longer stays. Ideally the apartment sleeps two but we can fit an extra (smallish) person on the 6’ couch if needed, there is also an air mattress and extra bedding available if requested.

The apartment is as advertised! The photos depict the space well and the high rating are deserved. The apartment is very well decorated with nice touches throughout the space. Lorna was excellent. She communicated well and although we didn't need her help during our stay, we felt that if we did, she would be happy to assist. The location is a short walk (~5mins) to downtown restaurants, shops, and nightlife. An added bonus to some, if you like high-pressure showers, then you will love the clean, power washed feel after showering! This shower is no joke! :) We would stay here again! Highly recommended.

The Host didn't greet me when I arrived at the apartment. She left a limited written greeting explaining wifi access and general information but no mention of where things such as toilet paper, towels, etc were at in the Apartment. While I should have contacted them to inquire, I ended up having to go buy Tissue, Toilet Paper, and a Bath towel for me to dry off after my shower. Also the plumbing was backed up in the shower and when i tried to use the bath tub it would not hold water. After the fact I was informed there is a mechanical process to follow for this to work. Then i notice someone was locking the secondary door knob lock every time I left the apartment while i was gone to an interview, and while running to get food for myself. I inquired about this but received no response. Overall a frustrating stay at this apartment. Then when I call Airbnb to make a complaint about the stay at Lorna's apartment, Lorna replies to Airbnb that I the customer should have called her. While I agree I should have called concerning the confusing location of amenities, the Whole reason why I stay at B and B's is I don't want to have to call for things. In most of the AirBnb's I have stayed at their is some type of greeting when i get there and directions on where and how to use things in the room or home, no requirement for an Easter egg hunt. In any case, the lack of communication on the host's part to check status and the functional issues of the tub and shower were enough to leave me as an unhappy guest. I would not recommend this location for an Airbnb stay.

Response from Lorna:
Very sorry about the mix up. All of the amenities were there, most have no issues finding everything since its a sparse apartment. Myself or my mother next door would have gladly helped you with all the questions including how to put the stopper in the tub. As for the door knob, I just can't imagine what that was. No one has a key but me and my mom. It was an unfortunate stay because of a lack of contact from you. All of this could have been corrected in one text or phone call. I wish you would have let us know so we could have had the stellar reviews we deserve. We try our very best to make everyone happy, we do airbnb because we love hosting people and making their stay awesome. Asking for a full refund was just not fair. I wish you luck in further airbnb stays. Lorna

Lorna's apartment was beautiful and the perfect space and location for us. We were able to walk everywhere in town with ease and it was in a great location to quickly drive to spots a bit further out. The bed and air mattress were very comfortable and the apartment was clean and had plenty of space. The windows added a lot of light and fresh air and it is in a quieter building and part of town. It was a lovely apartment and location and it is somewhere I would love to stay again.

Lorna's place was great! The apartment is a little hidden gem off the road and is much cuter than I expected from the outset. So much charm and character and very well decorated. It is worth noting that there is no A/C in this apartment. I think the weather in SLO is usually pretty mild, but there were a few days during my stay that made the apartment uncomfortably hot (even with the fan on). The location can't be beat though as it is a stones throw to downtown and all the wonderful restaurants/boutiques it has to offer. It came with all the cozy things you need in a vacation home and I was able to cook several meals using the kitchen. I would highly recommend staying here.

Location, location, location. Everything was as described - our only nit pick was the couch was not comfortable - but otherwise, Lorna was attentive, check in was a breeze, and the apartment was very clean and otherwise comfortable.

Born and raised in the hills of southeast Ohio I landed here in SLO with my South African surfer husband 22 years ago. We love living in this beautifully rural yet sophisticated town. Together we are raising three wonderful children and working as a local business owner of a wellness center and I am an artist and designer, passionate about creating beautiful spaces that function well and feel good, I am excited to share my passion with the guests who stay with us. My mother, Heike lives next door in the small tri-plex. She is a wonderful german lady who taught me about “beautifying” the world. She is an amazing cook, gardener, caretaker and an all around lovely, quiet person who recently moved here from Ohio to make her home in San Luis Obispo. You will most likely find her strolling around her little garden should you have any immediate questions or needs.
