Calm Oasis In Your Travels
While I enjoy meeting new people, I'm conscious that travelling can be tiring and that all many people want is a place to get away from it all. No doubt you'll want to fit as much into your day as possible (I can supply you with local knowledge and tips on where to go and what to do if you like), but if you just want to spend a day sitting on the deck with your book or an evening watching TV, you'd be very welcome to do that.
There's always a buzz in Ponsonby; the area attracts people from all over Auckland who come seeking great food and shopping. Whether it's wandering the local food market, sitting at a pavement cafe table with a latte, people-watching or browsing in one of the many great shops, you'll find plenty to do here.
A 15 minute walk downhill will bring you to downtown Auckland, the bustling waterfront and the ferry terminal from where you can cruise the harbour or catch a boat out to one of the many islands in the Hauraki Gulf.
If you'd prefer to catch a bus, my home is conveniently located on the inner city bus route with buses running every 10 minutes. A great way to get to the Auckland Art Gallery, Museum and other popular attractions.
Other Things to Note
Minimum stay 2 nights. Check-out time 11am. Check-in times are flexible depending on your travel arrangements but it's important I know before your estimated arrival time so I am home to welcome you. After 2pm if possible would be appreciated.
No pets, sorry, but children are welcome. I have a spare mattress available if required and on occasion, I may be happy to rent out my whole house (two bedrooms).
Smoking isn't allowed inside, but no problem on the deck.
Because it's my home you're sharing, I expect you'll treat it with respect, as you would if you were staying with a friend.
It was brilliant.
Our time with Trudi was by far the best part of our stay in Auckland. She was incredibly welcoming, and even made us dinner on one incredibly wet and blustery evening. We so enjoyed our time with her that we're already planning a trip back to stay with her again soon! At the time she was taking care of her daughter's dog, Toto, and I loved playing with him in the morning while we ate breakfast. The room and the bed were perfect - like the most comfortable and luxurious hotel bed you could imagine. Trudy had breakfast laid out for us every morning, and had great advice about where to go in the surrounding area. We were about a two minute walk from the trendiest street in Auckland, and even with that proximity, the property was still quiet and relaxing in the evening! We made dinner for Trudi one evening and really enjoyed playing scrabble, listening to Billie Holiday and talking to her in the evenings. She was an excellent host and a great person; she even took care of my girlfriend when she got sick and couldn't leave the house! In my book, there isn't a better host I've stayed with than Trudi. I would definitely recommend her highly for anyone considering a stay in Auckland.
Trudi was an absolute delight! She set the bar high for setting accommodations for the rest of our trip. We wish there was a filter to find option in other towns called "like Trudi's place." She was a great host and easily accommodated our extra friend with ease. Thank you!!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Trudi's beautiful cottage in ponsonby, the perfect location! The room is lovely, cosy and warm :-) Thank you for all the restaurant tips and for making our time in Auckland the perfect memorable girls weekend away!
Trudi is a real treasure and is a really generous host. Before we even arrived she had given us some suggestions of wonderful off-the-beaten-track places to visit during our first stay in New Zealand. On our arrival she made us feel immediately at home and invited us to join her dinner party that evening. The house is delightful, clean and cozy and in a lovely quiet street around the corner from Ponsonby Road and with views to the CBD. A really lovely airbnb experience!
We really enjoyed our stay at Trudi's lovely home in the heart of Ponsonby. It offers excellent views onto Sky Tower. The room we stayed in, and in fact the whole house, is really nice and comfy. Nice breakfast in the morning. Trudi is an excellent host and lovely person who is great to chat with. She made us feel very welcome, made sure we had all we need and was always helpful (eg getting us a cheaper taxi to the airport).
All in all we had a great stay and recommend to stay at her home to other travellers looking for a relaxing place in Auckland.
Trudi is a wonderfully warm and friendly host with a lovely, clean home. We felt very welcome here and spent time with Trudi, who is helpful, knowledgeable and respectful. We would absolutely stay here again. The neighborhood is very nice with excellent food, coffee and shops within walking distance (5-10 minutes). The house is also within walking distance of the waterfront, K'Road and the CBD and close to the Interlink bus line which is really convenient. You can't get bored! Highly recommend staying here if traveling to or through Auckland.
About the Host, Trudi
Family comes first for me and with two of my five children, five of my 12 grandchildren and most of my extended family living in Ireland, I cross the globe every second year to spend a few months with family and friends. For me it really is 'a long way to Tipperary', where I was born!
I love the buzz of inner city living and every day take a long walk around Ponsonby and neighbouring suburbs, which frequently takes me along by the Harbour Bridge to the Viaduct, home of the America's Cup (though sadly not for the next challenge!).
I'm very interested in sport, rugby in particular (cheering for Ireland over the All Blacks every time!) and in my younger days played representative squash, tennis and golf. Other interests include gardening, cooking, reading, bridge and music.
I've travelled extensively, including a memorable six week trip by P&O cruise ship which brought me to New Zealand 40 years ago via the Panama Canal, Acapulco, Fiji and many other great places. As well as New Zealand and Ireland, I have lived in West Virginia for a year. A few of my favourite holiday destinations include Paris, Sydney, Viareggio on the Italian coast and the west of Ireland.
Now retired, I worked for 25 years in social welfare, helping mainly sole parents find rewarding life options. During that time, I (recklessly?!) completed a post-grad diploma in Career Counselling. I was also very involved in education, health and policy making while my children were at school.
I look forward to meeting you and sharing some Irish Hospitality in Ponsonby!
