Calm Oasis In Your Travels
While I enjoy meeting new people, I'm conscious that travelling can be tiring and that all many people want is a place to get away from it all. No doubt you'll want to fit as much into your day as possible (I can supply you with local knowledge and tips on where to go and what to do if you like), but if you just want to spend a day sitting on the deck with your book or an evening watching TV, you'd be very welcome to do that.
There's always a buzz in Ponsonby; the area attracts people from all over Auckland who come seeking great food and shopping. Whether it's wandering the local food market, sitting at a pavement cafe table with a latte, people-watching or browsing in one of the many great shops, you'll find plenty to do here.
A 15 minute walk downhill will bring you to downtown Auckland, the bustling waterfront and the ferry terminal from where you can cruise the harbour or catch a boat out to one of the many islands in the Hauraki Gulf.
If you'd prefer to catch a bus, my home is conveniently located on the inner city bus route with buses running every 10 minutes. A great way to get to the Auckland Art Gallery, Museum and other popular attractions.
Other Things to Note
Minimum stay 2 nights. Check-out time 11am. Check-in times are flexible depending on your travel arrangements but it's important I know before your estimated arrival time so I am home to welcome you. After 2pm if possible would be appreciated.
No pets, sorry, but children are welcome. I have a spare mattress available if required and on occasion, I may be happy to rent out my whole house (two bedrooms).
Smoking isn't allowed inside, but no problem on the deck.
Because it's my home you're sharing, I expect you'll treat it with respect, as you would if you were staying with a friend.
This was my first airbnb stay and it exceeded all of my expectations. I felt immediately at home at Trudi's place. The house is amazing, cosy on the inside, a bright courtyard and an amazing location to boot, perched on a hill overlooking Auckland CBD with million-dollar views. Trudi is 15 minutes walk to the CBD and just up the street from Ponsonby Road, a trendy area filled with cafe's, restaurants and bars and is a constant hub of activity. if you rent a car, there is plenty of parking on the street.
Trudi was a fantastic host, I enjoyed our long talks over wine and her amazing hospitality. I felt so comfortable and at home there after my short stay that I honestly wished I stayed in Auckland for longer. Cannot recommend enough a stay at Trudi's place if you want to be close to Auckland CBD while experiencing the inner-city life of the Ponsonby area.
I could not have asked for a better way to end my 3 week holiday in New Zealand! Trudi was an amazing host who made me feel right at home in her quaint cottage that has the most amazing location and views you could imagine. The room provided was bright and cheerful with the most cozy bed and linens. The breakfast Trudi provided was divine and filling for my days of sightseeing.
Trudi's place is conveniently located in the adorable Ponsonby area of Auckland which has numerous restaurants, cafes and boutiques just steps away. The CBD is a short walk or bus ride as well.
Trudi was so helpful to me in so many ways including assisting me with how to get around, suggesting great restaurants and sights, as well as how to use the bus system.
I also thoroughly enjoyed spending time with Trudi who, by the end of my trip, felt like family. She went above and beyond to make me feel right at home and assist me in any way she could, which I can't thank her enough for.
If you are looking for the absolute perfect place to stay during your time in Auckland, you will absolutely find it at Trudi's.
Thank you so very much, Trudi!
Trudi is very welcoming lady, with just the right combination of friendly contact and allowing for privacy. The position of the house is excellent. You can walk to the city centre or take a bus, and just meters away there is a whole street with restaurants and shops. We really enjoyed our stay there.
From the time we arrived at 7 am waking Trudi up ( early flight from Canada) until we left 4 days later, Trudi was gracious, helpful, kind and the most welcoming hostess I have ever met. Her house is lovely and in the best part of Auckland - Ponsonby is trendy but has a great sense of neighborhood too. Her place is just a few steps from the inner link bus which whisks you downtown - or you can walk down in about 1/2 hr . Breakfast is delicious - her home made muesli is the best I have ever had and there is a lovely assortment of jam, honey, eggs and toast, fruit and coffee. The bed is comfy comfy with beautiful linens. We had a lot of fun watching cricket with her - she knows her game! and best of all New Zealand won the semi-final game to be in the world cup. Trudi made our introduction to New Zealand a wonderful experience.
Trudi was a wonderful and caring. The house is very clean, centrally located and we were able to walk into the city. It is also located on a very quiet street so sleeping is no problem. It is very easy to arrive at her place using the bus. She went out of her way to prepare me a meal and cake for my birthday.
Trudi Carbery is a delightful, hospitable woman living in a wonderful, clean, welcoming cottage. She is within walking distance of downtown Auckland but even if she weren't, I'd go back in a minute. Perfect introduction to this wonderful country.
Family comes first for me and with two of my five children, five of my 12 grandchildren and most of my extended family living in Ireland, I cross the globe every second year to spend a few months with family and friends. For me it really is 'a long way to Tipperary', where I was born!
I love the buzz of inner city living and every day take a long walk around Ponsonby and neighbouring suburbs, which frequently takes me along by the Harbour Bridge to the Viaduct, home of the America's Cup (though sadly not for the next challenge!).
I'm very interested in sport, rugby in particular (cheering for Ireland over the All Blacks every time!) and in my younger days played representative squash, tennis and golf. Other interests include gardening, cooking, reading, bridge and music.
I've travelled extensively, including a memorable six week trip by P&O cruise ship which brought me to New Zealand 40 years ago via the Panama Canal, Acapulco, Fiji and many other great places. As well as New Zealand and Ireland, I have lived in West Virginia for a year. A few of my favourite holiday destinations include Paris, Sydney, Viareggio on the Italian coast and the west of Ireland.
Now retired, I worked for 25 years in social welfare, helping mainly sole parents find rewarding life options. During that time, I (recklessly?!) completed a post-grad diploma in Career Counselling. I was also very involved in education, health and policy making while my children were at school.
I look forward to meeting you and sharing some Irish Hospitality in Ponsonby!
