The house suits both families with young children, and those with restricted mobility (while there are steps at the front and rear doors, the ground floor is open plan and includes a bathroom and double bedroom). Many poeple have used it as a base for visiting family, attending weddings, gathering clanns and attending festivals.

Guest Access

The cottage is a semi-detached dwelling with three bedrooms to sleep six, a fully fitted kitchen, a lounge, and a main bathroom and shower room. It is fully insulated and double glazed, with oil fired central heating for the cold winter months, - making the cottage a comfortable home from home. Outside, the front has a neatly trimmed patch of lawn, while to the rear, there is a secure, fully fenced yard, with a patio area which can serve as a childrens play area when entertaining guests. A separate lock-up garage can keep a second car safe when away on an extended trip, or used for storage.
Guests have access to the entire house and the garage (where BBQ and Chiminea is kept) and space surrounding the house. There is also a large outdoor shed containing games and DIY materials.

Other Things to Note

Buncrana is the largest town on the Inishowen peninsula, and is situated on the eastern shores of Lough Swilly, a long , narrow fjord like strip of water extending some 40Km south from its entrance to the North Atlantic between Fanad and Dunaff Heads. It is also known as the Lake of Shadows, because of the way changing weather affects the light reflecting off the waters.
Local Amenities

The town has a good infrastructure, and includes 3 hotels 17 pubs, 4 supermarkets, 4 schools, a childrens play area, a cinema, 3 banks, places of worship, and many other shops and service providers.

There are a number of sports and recreation facilities including.
The North West Golf Club at Lisfannon.
An indoor swimming pool with gym and sauna
There is a yacht marina at Fahan.
In the summer months, a ferry service operates from the pier, crossing the Swilly to Rathmullan, a convenient way of beginning a tour of west Donegal.
Surrounding Area

The Grianan of Aileach is a group of historic monuments in County Donegal built on the hill of Grianán which is 244 metres high. The main monument is that of an Iron Age stone fortress. This important historical site was a centre of culture and politics during the rule of early Irish chieftains. A short drive from Sandymount Cottage takes you to the hilltop beside the Grianan - enjoy the panoramic views of Lough Foyle and Swilly before entering the rath itself.

Locally, there are lovely walks along the shoreline and in the surrounding hills, with the White Strand, and a Blue Flag Beach at Lisfannon to the south, while along the northern shore, a paved pathway will take you from Castle bridge, past Vaughan House and ODohertys Keep, onto Neds Point, Porthaw Beach and finally Stragill Beach. Admire beautiful coastal scenery along the way, with benches laid out at intervals along the path, where you can catch your breath and enjoy the views, or maybe watch the sunset. After Stragill the path ends, and at this point you may want to turn around. if you are really fit you can continue on to Linsfort and Dunree

A shorter walk takes one through the lovely Swan Park, which follows the Crana River along a wooded path, from Castle Bridge to the road bridge. A little further along the river, is the Tullyarvan Mill, a renovated 19th century grain mill, which now hosts art exhibitions, music festivals, concerts, plays, and provides a venue for private functions and conferences. It also has a 52 bed hostel.
