Aldea Zama is the closest residential area to the world ranked beaches in Tulum. It gives you the added benefit of being able to stay within bicycle riding distance from the beach, but with all the modern conveniences from a year old building.
Cycling is Tulum's most popular way of getting around, but you will also get the phone numbers for a few cab drivers that can assist with special transportation, should you need to go at a time when cycling is not an option.
We are offering two FREE bicycles with your stay!
Other Things to Note
If you will need any suggestion on activities, tours or other recommendations, let us know, and we will have a short list of trusted vendors to suggest.
There is ADDITIONAL ELECTRICITY charge that is calculated by the KW usage after your stay. It is not much, roughly $3 pesos per KW, and it is intended to make you remember to turn off the A/C when you are NOT there, not really to discourage you from using it.
Please do not smoke inside the condo. If you smoke in the balcony, please make sure your smoke does not fly into another unit. You have two balconies and very nice neighbors :)

Vilija was wonderful in coordinating the details of our trip. She gave us clear directions as to where we needed to go, which made finding the place a breeze!
The location is perfectly central between the town and the beach road with all the restaurants and boutiques. Highly recommend renting a car, as it's much more convenient for getting around from place to place. Especially if you want to visit Cenotes, or swim with Sea Turtles, etc.
Only down side was that our living room air conditioner did not work, and the cell phone provided did not work as well. I'd plan to have all points needed starred on a google map before arriving so it's easy to find your way around. Luckily the two other air conditioners in the rooms made the apartment cool enough to be alright without it.
Ed and his wife manage a number of properties in the Tulum / Akumal area
Quick responses to questions were furnished, as were clear directions to get the key from a lockbox when they were unable to meet us upon arrival
Aldea Zama is the "next big thing" in Tulum - a multi-use planned community that intends to provide a Playa del Carmen-like experience in the years to come
For now, it is nothing more than winding sub-division streets carved out of the jungle with the occasional condo complex on the next block
If you prefer a quiet environment, and have a rental car - or don't mind a 10-15 minute bike ride to beach or town each day - a good location
Pictures of the Prana complex, and of the unit, are accurate
Describing the unit as 'luxury' might be a bit of a stretch - new, spacious, squeaky-clean, and tastefully-furnished more like it
The expansive kitchen, dining room, and living room made meals and evening 'relax' time very comfortable
Swimming pool was immaculate
One local friend who visited us remarked that the unit would be ideal for two couples on vacation together
The washer / dryer unit is a nice addition, and was much appreciated by us
Individual air conditioning units in living room and each bedroom ensured comfortable nights - prudent use is suggested, however, as electricity is a bit expensive in Tulum (and you will receive a request for payment after checkout)
Condo security is good with locked gates protecting the interior of the complex - one security guard (on duty 24 hours) to allow access to non-residents, waved us in with a smile after asking our unit number
Ample (but un-secure) off-street parking is available around the exterior perimeter of the complex - likely best to move valuables (for us, expensive dive gear) from vehicle to condo each night
'Partying' neighbors - always a risk in a complex that is primarily vacation / rental units - kept us awake until the late hours on our last two nights
Lastly, kudos to Ed for 'going the extra mile' to return a lost iPhone charging cord - inadvertently left in the unit at checkout, found by the maids, retrieved by Ed, and returned when I visited him at his Akumal home the next day - much appreciated !!
The apartment was lovely and exactly as described by Ed and Vilija. They were not there to greet us when we arrived, but communicated very well throughout our stay whenever we needed it. Aldea Zama is still growing and a little isolated (which we thought was a good thing), but it was an easy bike ride into town, and taxis can find the place easily. We would definitely stay here
A real great experience all the way around! They were very responsive and easy to comunicate with and genuinely cared about us enjoying our stay. They we're very accomodating and very nice people.
This place was just as described. Super nice, peaceful, and clean. The owners were very kind. They waited very patiently for our arrival. And they gave us a lot of great info. We traveled with our daughter and meet families from all over the world at the pool. I would stay here again for sure.
myself, my husband and 2 of our friends stayed at this apartment for 2 nights. upon arrival we realized that it is a brand new development, the area itself can be a little confusing but the building is beautiful. its very close to the beaches of tulum but not close enough to walk to. luckily they had 2 bikes that our friends enjoyed riding everyday, even during the evenings. the building was very quiet but with very friendly neighbors. the apartment itself was very comfortable and clean, and Vilija was helpful and lent us a local phone so that we could call taxis if we needed. Super easy and relaxing stay!

About the Host, Ed And Vilija
WHY WE HOST
We -LOVE- to Travel. My wife and I met originally in the USA, where I lived for over 16 years. For the last five years we have shifted out priorities and have been traveling the world and making a habit of staying in local people's homes. After the US, we spent time in Spain and Portugal and then lived in London for just over three years, where we settled temporarily and, after learning of AIRBNB then, weplayed the Host role for a three years, while we explored Europe from top to bottom!
We are now, living in Akumal, Mexico, which is between Playa del Carmen and Tulum. We came here on vacation almost three years ago and fell in love with it all so, we stayed!
We have plenty of travel stories ... like the time we cycled from Norway to Spain (Yes, the whole continent in 2.5 months and stayed in a hotel only ONCE) or when we crashed a three day long wedding in Bali, or when we dived Shark Island in Thailand. We hiked for 9 hours to see a volcano erupting and got lost in the lava field; we have driven a motorcycle in the crazy traffic of Vietnam, and seen the sun rise and set in Angkor Wat. We love wild places like erupting volcanos but we also moved to Rome for a month to drink wine, eat pizza and fall in love with Bernini :) We can talk travel for hours ;)
In all these places, it was local people who allowed us to full experience a place and gave us the best tips and recommendations. We now try to do the same for guests in the place we call home, for now.
We are a young, active couple. We have been together for more than twelve years and we love to have fun and travel together. We believe in what we call 'Real Travel', and we have been lucky enough to be able to visit over 30 countries for extended periods, spend time, eat and drink (and many times party) with locals. We are very health conscious and we do our best to eat well, and stay active: Yoga, jogging, etc. We have people we consider friends all over the world and we do what we can to meet more friends when possible. If you need advise on Jakarta, Bali, Romania, Germany, Italy, Spain, France or the UK, Ireland or Scotland, we can likely give you names and numbers of awesome people who will treat you like family!
We love to host people from abroad are very excited at the possibilities this model has brought to our lives!
In the professional front, we have worked and specialized in Real Estate in this part of Mexico, which gives us yet another way to introduce people to this wonderful part of the world.
In the time we already have hosted, we have met incredible people and made great friends, both as hosts as well as guests, it at least three continents, dozens of countries and countless languages!
Welcome to Mexico! ... and Hola!
