The Space

*** The internet is quite temperamental in Myanmar so I apologise for any delays in response in advance! ***

1 beautiful lake view double room with en-suite bathroom in newly refurbished, contemporary Burmese house.

A couple of nights as well as longer term (a couple of weeks/months) also considered

Non-smokers preferred (or there is an outside decking area if you would like to smoke, Yangon is pretty much warm all year round, if you don't mind a few mozzies!)

Overlooking a lake and meditation centre at the back and opposite a monastery at the front. On a quiet lane in central Yangon (Bahan township), which is lovely to walk and cycle around to soak up local food stalls, traditional medicine hospital and Myanmar cultural and community life. Taxis are almost omni-present in Yangon so no worries about that.

5-10 minutes walk from Shwedagon Pagoda, Kandawgyi Park, Bogyoke Aung San Museum and Ngat Htat Gyi Pagoda.

Some photos currently show the property as unfurnished but all rooms are in fact fully furnished - need a new camera!

We have worked with a local charity that refurbishes antique and colonial era furniture as well as making bespoke from Burmese teak - it's just across the road so happy to take you over there to meet them, learn about interesting social enterprises happening in Myanmar

To stay or share with an Anglo-Burmese girl in her early thirties with an active personal interest and connection with Myanmar cultural life and will also have 1-2 other housemates

Unfortunately we cannot accommodate children or more than 2 people per bedroom. $50/night for one person per room, $60/night for two people per room

Check in from 6.30pm (unless otherwise arranged)
Check out from 11am

Any stay later than 11am until 6pm will result in a half day extra charge, after 6pm a full extra night's charge

Guest Access

Guest access: all of the ground floor including kitchen facilities and own bathroom

Interaction with Guests

Host interaction with guests: happy to share tips and recommendations with all guests. I generally work 9-6 but may sometimes be home outside of these hours and am very happy to help out and support any guests when needed and available

I also have a maid who is here all day Wednesday and Saturday who has pretty good English and is very helpful

The Neighborhood

It's a quiet oasis and wildlife haven amidst the hot chaos of Yangon

Getting Around

Very convenient for the major sites in Yangon

House Rules

Please remember and respect that this is a private home for two working professionals and not a hotel so no major late night raves and any special or out of hours requests should be submitted in advance so we can arrange our work schedule around them

Please arrive punctually for check-in, or inform us of any likely delays in advance

We are happy to accommodate any requests like this providing we have enough advance notice

Please also respect that Myanmar life is 1. very modest and 2. very community-driven. So we request that guests refrain from wearing sleeveless tops, skirts above the knee or tops showing cleavage whilst in the neighbourhood - and also advise that it's best to for women to dress in ankle length skirts and t-shirts covering upper arms in general (not just at pagodas) - you'll get less staring, better prices and not make the locals feel uncomfortable! It does get quite hot and sticky though so go for something light and loose!
