VERY PRIVATE PIECE OF PARADISE
Perfect for 2 couples or small family. Enjoy an inside/outdoor modern living area with private patios, grill & fire pit. 2 Bdr/2 Bath. Chef's dream kitchen. 2 dramatic showers. View of Ocean. Email me with questions.
One of the best locations in the world to unwind, relax and indulge....So much beauty and inspiration.
The house was totally remodeled 3 years ago and is superbly decorated like a modern California bungalow.
Great Location. Less than 5 Minutes to Point Lobos and Carmel, 10 minutes to Monterey or Pebble Beach. Top of the line appliances, Recycled materials, tempurpetic mattresses, flatscreen tvs in almost every room with DirectTv satellite service.
There are two master bedrooms with private restrooms. Both walk-in showers feature a waterfall shower head and one has massaging wall jets. The home has historical significance designed by a rising start architect of the 1950s on the peninsula and is an 8 sided, octagon building with a 30 foot stone fireplace at home's center. Half of the home's space is the great room that's perfect for watching the surround sound entertainment center or fixing a dinner or snack in the professional chef's kitchen. A custom-made booth that feels like sitting in the California Oaks, is a great retreat.
The Outside Area adds major living area to the home. A comfortable sectional seating area and fire-pit set the stage for a wonderful morning, afternoon or evening.
Start your day with a warm cup of coffee on the patio. Enjoy your steam shower and jets after taking your jog around the neighborhood. Explore the coastline in the sunshine or just use the beach chairs to curl up with a new novel. Make sure and stop by one of the many weekly farmer's markets if you plan on staying in for the evening or sample some of the best restaurants and bistros on the coast. Take in some of the local nightlife in Carmel or Monterey or cuddle up as you watch a blue-ray disc in the surround sound theater.
Guests have full access to house and acre of gardens. Access to the beach is across the street or visit any of the fabulous public beaches within a 15 minute drive on Hwy 1.
There is a two car garage that can be leased with home for automobiles for an additional charge. Surface parking available at the house for no extra charge. There is very limited cell phone service in this area of the Carmel Highlands. A land line phone for making local calls or receiving calls is at the home. There is wifi but it too can be a little undependable at times.
Interaction with Guests
It's your space while you are here so there will only be interaction if needed. We have a on-call property manager, maintenance and housing staff. I will be happy to give you suggestions on what I would do if in the area for only a few days. I also have access to passes and discount tickets to area attractions.
The ONLY negative review of my property was made by a guest that damaged upholstery in my home, refused to leave the property at the stated time and never used the pre-arrival instructions and the on property directions for her stay (internet access, passwords, operating instructions for electronics, etc) A true hostess nightmare. I ask you to take my explanation for her totally ridiculous review. Judge the multiple fabulous reviews and make you decision if this was deserved. I have accepted that some people are just difficult and don't respect others.
Mal Paso neighborhood is mostly part to full-time residents. It is very quiet, cozy and safe. You can get to the beach during an easy 5 minute stroll across Highway 1. There are several nearby beaches (one in walking distance) that provide a fabulous oasis for you. The neighborhood has several ridges and slopes so it makes a great place to get out and run or walk. Spindrift Road (One of the most beautiful vistas in the world) is a short nice walk along the Pacific thru the neighborhood of Yankee Point. Great way to start or end any day!
Centrally located you can get to anywhere from the house in less than 30 minutes. There is taxi cab service but I suggest renting a car.
Less than 5 minutes to Point Lobos, 10 minutes to Carmel by the Sea or Carmel Valley, 20 minutes to Big Sur to the south or Monterey/Pebble Beach to the North. It usually takes less than 2 hours to get to San Francisco or San Jose Airports and there are shuttles that run daily from Downtown Monterey to area airports.
Other Things to Note
Free Family Adventure Tickets to Area Attractions Along with Local Suggestions and discount for area Restaurants. Itinerary for Day Journeys to local wineries, Hurst Castle, Point Lobos, Big Sur & Monterey.
I would expect guests to treat my space as their own. If there are problems with anything, please let us know so that we can address. If you tear up or break something let us know. Almost everything is replaceable and forgivable. Of course no smoking allowed inside and cigarette buds must be disposed of off property. Pets are not allowed.
Thank you for a lovely stay. The house has been beautifully remodeled, and the location couldn't be nicer.
What a pleasure to stay in this home for our Christmas holiday! This gorgeous home had two large master bedrooms with their own private bathrooms -- what a treat! Every part of this home was upgraded: a beautiful and clean kitchen, bathrooms with rain shower heads, surround sound for listening to music, comfortable beds with extra blankets, and more. We used the fire pit outside almost every night! The location was perfect; just off Highway 1, far away enough to be quiet but close enough to access local stores or beaches just a short drive away. Point Lobos Reserve was just a few miles away! April was kind enough to include recommendations for nearby restaurants, attractions, and walks. April was always quick to respond to emails and she made our stay pleasant and easy! We can't wait to come back again soon!

We had a fantastic time in this beautiful house in Carmel. Everything was clean, beautifully presented and the location is great for hikers and nature lovers. April had provided all of the necessary utensils for those who like to cook and it was a treat cooking in such a well appointed and big kitchen. The house is close to a number of great restaurants and activities such as whale watching. I recommend making the journey to the Big Sur and Monterey whilst you're there, the views are breathtaking. You can also watch the sun set over the sea from the patio out the back; something that was unexpected, but appreciated. April was very helpful and kept in good contact over the phone and email. This was my maiden voyage with Airbnb and I couldn't have asked for a better experience. Thanks April!
This is my first (and I sincerely hope) only negative AirBnb review.
The home itself was lovely and very picturesque. It doesn't have any cell phone signal within the house though and wi-fi is also pretty spotty.
I regret to say that April has been the WORST host in our entire AirBnb experience. She accused us of checking out of her residence much later than we actually did and in the ensuing AirBnb case, I had to dig up credit card receipts to prove that we were elsewhere.
In addition to filing for extra charges against us, she sent me a vitriolic email where she accused us of more things. All of this without a single phone call to us or any prior written communication to attempt to resolve the situation amicably.
More than anything else, we were shocked by April's attitude. Every AirBnB experience for us has been characterized by a warm and welcoming host, which made our experience with April even more jarring.
If you're looking for peace of mind and a warm host, I *strongly* recommend looking elsewhere.
I love my privacy - but feel selfish it if don't share my hidden slice of paradise in Carmel Highlands. Every item in the cottage has been hand picked to fit into this beautiful oasis. I know you will love spending time here - as a couple, small family or couples trip. I love to cook and the kitchen testifies this passion. Jen-air appliances that allow you to grill inside or out, warming drawers keep food ready for when you are ready and a nice wine cooler to hold your collection of Monterey locals wineries. There is an obsessive 5 tvs inside and a complete sound system for you to enjoy inside and out of the house. But you will want to spend all your time outside on the fire-pit patio. It's my ELYSIUM - my magical place of ideal happiness.
