The House on Higher Ground, on 12 lush acres is secluded, yet in-town. All town services are within a short walk. The house faces south with a lovely view of the valley and a spring-fed pond, stone walls, trails, and old maples provide a quintessential Vermont setting. Top-rated take-away gourmet cafe in VT....Sissy's Kitchen... is just a stroll through our meadow paths!
The space
‘The House’ has sweeping views from the wrap around porch, is for one or two couples (or a family member over 16) with at least 2 great reviews on Airbnb. A dog under 70 pounds or two totaling 70 pounds may join you. There is a nursery but only for infants under 6 months. This private, quiet, bright and beautifully furnished designer home is one-of-a-kind...but don't take our word for it, check out our reviews! It was a green design/build completed in 2005. We started with a 160-year-old barn which was moved 1000 ft. to the top of the 12-acre property. Emphasis was placed on reusing all parts of the barn in the home, which creates an outstanding old-world charm atmosphere that has visitors frequently commenting, "Wow!...this place needs to be featured in a magazine!" The master has a king bed with a full bath/shower is on the main level. The upstairs bedroom (queen bed) has a separate sitting room with 1.5 baths. The 1/2 bath is in the bedroom, and a full bath with a claw foot tub off the sitting room/nursery. The House has ample room for two couples to relax and rejuvenate. Apple TV in the living room, a DVD player with movies in the master, and an extensive old-school VHS collection/ player for upstairs guests. A private outdoor hot/cold shower on the deck, with a view of the valley, overlooks the pool. (Because the house is dog-friendly, and we have hosted many a fine pet, there are happy scratches on our wood floor. But pets are not allowed on furniture without coverings .) A fire-pit adds the warmth for stargazing nights. There are board games, frisbee golf, corn hole, bocce, badminton, and volleyball provided. Our adjoining property, an earth-sheltered hobbit home is available on Airbnb>Visit Higher Ground. COMmunication: These two properties make it a perfect getaway for 4 couples. Best cell service is AT&T...Cell phone service with other carriers is spotty or none...but WiFi calling will work. NOTE ON POSSIBLE WINTER RENTALS: If you are interested in Nov -March winter rental, and have woodstove know-how, please send an inquiry (by choosing any random open dates) and we can email you the specifics. If you have 4 good reviews on Airbnb then we can unblock the winter dates you are interested in for your booking. The Winter rate is $120/night and includes wood and water.

*Rental Rate: The balance in full is due 10 days prior to arrival and is non-refundable should the reservation be canceled within 3 days of the booked arrival date. Delay check-in/check-out if dangerous weather prevents safe travel to VT for reservation on day of planned check-in.
*Cancellation Policy: If Guest wishes to cancel his/her reservation, the deposit and rental rate will be refunded as follows:
100% if canceled 3 days prior to the Check-in Date, 7 days if holiday or special event weekend.
Security Deposit is required to cover:

* dirt or other mess requiring excessive cleaning
* any other cost incurred by Homeowner due to Guest’s stay

Middletown Springs is a quaint village of 800 about 30 minutes to Manchester on one of the loveliest routes through Vermont. Middlebury is 45 minutes and on the way to Burlington. The town has all basic amenities; fire dept, small general store, post office, library, churches, historical society and Sissy's Kitchen...Voted Best in Yankee Magazine: Best NE Picnic Cafe (cash & check only), all at the bottom of the property...a lovely 5-minute walk away through our meadows. Step back in time... cell service is spotty and only 100% in the town of Poultney (8 miles west)... so enjoy life the way it was before the madness set in. There is high-speed fiber optic internet. The property is within an hour of five ski resorts: Killington, Pico, Stratton, Okemo and Bromley Mountain.
