Your very own private bedroom and bathroom at an affordable price just minutes from UF with welcoming, experienced hosts at your service! We can't wait to meet and host you :-)
My husband and I have a uniquely decorated space that reflects our love for different cultures around the world. My Italian heritage, upbringing in Ecuador, and Peace Corps volunteer experience in Mozambique all permeate the rooms of our condo. Our space is near the heart of Gainesville, but still has a removed/relaxing feeling about it that should make your stay with us very comfortable. My husband has spent a good part of his life in Gainesville and has PLENTY of recommendations as far as getting the most of the Gainesville area while you are visiting.
Access to private bedroom and adjoining private bathroom (with lock and key), kitchen, laundry room (washer, dryer, iron), Wi-Fi internet, printer (if you only need to print out a few sheets), bicycles, and condo's pool (when open)
Interaction with Guests
My husband and I are both grad students so we are gone for most of the day, but at home most nights. We love interacting with our guests and hearing their stories. We even have a guest book that we would love for you to sign and share about your experience while visiting us in Gainesville :-) That said, we are very none intrusive and will offer you as much privacy as you'd like!
We live in a mostly-grad-student condominium complex, tucked in a quiet nook up against a small creek, just east of the quickly revitalizing SW 13th Street. Shands hospital and UF are just across the way (~5 minutes walking). There are several well established as well as new restaurants popping up within walking distance and Gainesville's best running/biking trail starts less than 1/2 mile away (feel free to borrow our bikes).
We have bikes you can borrow and most places you'd want to visit (UF, downtown, midtown) are just minutes away. There are also buses that will take you from our house to downtown and from there you can get pretty much anywhere you'd like in Gainesville. UberX has arrived in Gainesville and is a reliable way to get around town during most hours of the day.
Other Things to Note
We have a well-behaved, chocolate colored Labrador Retriever who is very friendly with strangers and quiet.
Please be kind, courteous, and respectful especially regarding late night arrivals. My husband oftentimes has to wake up before 6am for work, but he is quiet and no guests have had problems with him making too much noise on the way out. Feel free to use our kitchen storage space for your food and let us know if there are any problems - we will make it work!
I enjoyed the ease of all the instructions, how clean the room was, the location and how accommodating they were for me and my guest. Awesome people.
I had to go to Gainesville for an interview at UofF. As one can imagine, I was quite worried and stressed prior to travelling! However, Amanda and Michael made the experience absolutely wonderful for me.
Finding the house was quite easy and was only a short taxi ride from the airport (around $20).
I was immediately greeted with open arms. It was truly a pleasure to speak with both Amanda and Michael about their life and their experiences around the world. They are incredibly engaged, intelligent and interesting. I really couldn't have asked for more! I even had chocolates and clean towels waiting for me on my bed which was very appreciated :) They are truly an incredible couple you have to meet!
I also got to spend some time with Jetty (the faithful animal companion) and had an incredible time with him! He was extremely gentle, very well behaved and an all-round perfect dog. It hurt my heart a bit to have to leave him, to be honest!
The residence is extremely close to the school. I was able to walk there (in heels!) in about 20 minutes.
All in all, the experience was AMAZING. I fell in love with Gainesville (and La Tienda, an amazing Mexican restaurant nearby!) and sincerely hope to call it home one day. Thank you, Michael and Amanda, for making that possible!
I had an excellent time at Michael and Amanda's. They are very welcoming hosts, and their dog Jetty is absolutely adorable. Their apartment is really tidy and the room is exactly as advertised, cosy and with its own private bathroom. If you're coming to Gainesville, look no further, this is the place for you to stay!!
This was a great experience! The room and private bathroom were comfortable and had lots of little "extras" that made it one of the best places I've ever stayed. Amanda and Michael were so pleasant and helpful that I wish I was friends with them in real life! :) They helped with directions and gave suggestions of places to visit. Loved this trip!
This was my first airbnb stay, and I honestly could not imagine a better experience! Amanda and Michael made me feel very comfortable and welcome the entire time, and after a 5 day stay, I left feeling like I had just stayed with a couple friends. They were always super helpful and easy to communicate with and really went above and beyond to make sure my trip was wonderful. After my original flight into Gainesville was cancelled, Michael went out of his way to pick me up from the airport the next morning and even gave me a mini tour of the town! The apartment itself is right across from the hospital and super close to the UF campus, so walking to either is always an option (I walked to my hospital interview, and not having to worry about transportation at 6am was priceless) . You get your own bedroom and bathroom so you can have all of the privacy you want, but Amanda and Michael are so fun that I mostly hung out with them and Jetty (their adorably awesome chocolate lab). We watched a couple movies, ordered pizza from a favorite local joint (Satchel's) and even went to a faaaantastic UF basketball game together. They had awesome recommendations for things to see, restaurants to eat at (La Tienda was my fav), and places to run (Payne's Prairie is a must). This host-room combination is the complete package, and highly highly recommend them to anyone passing through Gainesville for any amount of time. I surely would not hesitate to stay with them again, and just want to say thank you again to Michael and Amanda for an amazing time :)
This was my second visit to Amanda and Michael's. Unfortunately they were out of town during my stay and we didn't have an opportunity to hang out in the evenings. Staying at their home with them gone was still a very enjoyable experience with everything ready to go for my arrival. I look forward to staying with them again soon.
Amanda and Michael have a great place right by the hospital. Highly recommend it.
