Colony One/Sea Mountain is a unique place. The setting & location are wonderful & unusual. The complex is well maintained & small enough to stay friendly. People say hello to each other as they walk past & lots of conversations are started while lounging in the pool/hot tub area. Since buying our unit, we have spent a lot of time fixing it up & making it as comfortable as possible for our guests. Being a ex-tour guide, I have put together a binder of things to do while visiting the Big Island, including favorite beaches, restaurants, hikes & hidden treasures. There is a great bakery, coffee mill (that has tours & free samples), and farmers market all within a a 10-minute drive. Lots to explore in this lesser known part of the island and our place is a great starting point for your adventures. We invite you to be our guest at #24.
You will need to rent a car if you choose to stay here. We are about 60 minutes from Hilo airport & 95 minutes from Kona airport.
#24 is a very relaxing property. Sue is informative, responsive and helpful. The property is clean and orderly. The basics are covered and then some (beach towels, the coffee maker comes with a reusable filter, condiments in the fridge). The property is far from highly populated areas and the amenities that come with them (grocery stores, fine dining), but it does give you access to both the beautiful wild southern portion of the Big Island, and Volcano National Park. I highly recommend this property to anyone wanting some peace and quiet, and a relaxing stay.
This place was great! The condo over looks the golf course and you can see the ocean in the background. The place was clean and well kept and you can't say enough about having a comfortable bed to lay your head, after a long day of island exploration. Thank you Sue for sharing your treasure with us.
Sue was a great communicator and sent us all the information in an easily digestible manner. Her place was a wonderful getaway with a beautiful view of the ocean over the golf course as shown in the pictures. Pahala is not a "centrally located" location but it was perfect to be out of the city, in a quiet place and close to a beautiful black sand beach with turtles!
She also provided great information about visiting the different sights on the island as well as books / resources that we were able to use. Would highly recommend her place if you're looking to "get away from it all"!
To stay in Sue house's was wonderful, incredible and I feeling like home. The House is lovely and special. I recommend! A small problem is the location of the house. Far from the airport and some important attractions. But the road there is nice and you do not notice the time passing.
My boyfriend and I stayed here for one week, and it was so perfect that we did not want to leave. The condo is is so comfortable, has a great view, and all the amenities that one would need for a week. Sue and Peter provided a list of activities to do around the island, which was really helpful. For us, the location is great. We like to travel, but do not like to stay in touristy areas. It is about an hours drive in either direction to Kona and Hilo, but the drive was easy. When we didn't want to drive, we went to the black sands beach, which was within walking distance and always had sea turtles sunbathing during the day. We look forward to the day we return to the Big Island, and we hope that when we do, we will be able to stay here again!
About the Host, Sue
My husband and I both fell in love with the Big Island a few years ago. No matter how many times we go, there is always more to see & do. We chose this condo primarily for its location. Close to Volcano National Park & only an hour away from Hilo, our favorite city on the Big Island. The black sand beach is a 10-minute walk & its nice to visit it early before all the tour buses get there. That is a great time to see the turtles resting on the beach. We love that the complex is fairly secluded and quiet, a rare thing in todays busy world. The beautiful and peaceful setting instantly relaxes us. The view from our lanai is one of our favorite spots to spend time reading/eating/relaxing.
