Interaction with Guests
My husband works from home - so one of us is availble to meet you, give you keys, show you around and answer any questions that you may have. We are a busy family and love to host guests. We live upstairs from this apartment, this is our HOME. It is not large apartment building. It is a Brownstone, with a few apartments in it.
Nestled into Historic Harlem on a very quite residential block, lots of street parking if needed. just blocks away from trendy Harlem hotspots - Red Rooster, etc.. Beautiful churches surround the block and there is a playground and courts right across the street. Sunny block where everyone says hello !!
7 min walk in either direction to Express stop for 4,5,6 train , MetroNorth and Express Stop 2,3 train.
bus stop on both corners. 20 - 30 minutes to Midtown Manhattan, Times Square. 15-20 minutes to most major musuems.
Other Things to Note
wonderful grocery store 1 block away, Deli that will deliver basic groceries to the buidling for free. The kitchen is stocked with Coffee and Tea, sugar and creamers. Iron and Ironing Board provided. Hairdryer provided.
we live upstairs and will respect your need for privacy AND ask that you respect ours. Be respectful of the fact we have children- so this is NOT a Party apartment. nor is this appropriate place for illicit activities. We will try our best to accomadate a Flexible Check IN/OUT times. But if we have same day bookings - we can NOT change from the posted times.Helpful if you can tell me before you arrive the times you will need.
After having our original reservation with a different airbnb host cancelled only 9 days before our trip (because of a miscommunication between the host and his wife), we were happy to find this cute and comfortable studio. Karen and Adam were very easy to communicate with, responded promptly, and were very flexible with our arrival and departure times. They couldn't have been nicer. Adam's welcoming "spiel" was entertaining and informative. We took his recommendation and had dinner one night at the fabulous Chez Lucienne. The studio was clean and had everything we needed for our three nights in NYC. The futon bed was probably the most comfortable futon I've ever slept on (usually they're not very comfortable to me). They left coffee, milk, sugar, Nutella (!!), and other essentials. The quiet residential neighborhood was located only a short walk from convenient metro & bus stops, as well as shops and restaurants. The huge shower was great, and if it hadn't been so incredibly cold, we would have enjoyed the cute little patio.
However, if you are, like we are, sensitive to cigarette smoke, you should know that the neighbor (or his friends) smokes and the smell can seep in to the studio. Certainly not any fault of Karen and Adam, but something to be aware of. Also, if you want to sleep in on the weekend, this might not be the best spot. Since the kids living upstairs don't have school, they and their dog are active and moving around all morning. Saturday morning of our stay it sounded like a herd of elephants playing basketball for a few hours. I have kids and know they get restless when cooped up inside due to frigid temps, but not everyone is as understanding - especially when on a getaway without their own kids and dogs.
All in all, the place was lovely, the location convenient (I enjoyed exploring Harlem, a place I hadn't really spent any time in before), and Karen and Adam were wonderful and very accommodating. If you're a heavy sleeper/early riser and don't mind the occasional smell of cigarette smoke, this place is perfect!
We got a pleasant vibe from Karen. She showed us her studio, left us some snacks and gave us some advice regarding where to go in NYC and what to do there. We had a great time, despite being there in the middle of so called snowstorm Juno. The place was nice, cozy, there was everything a person need. Would recommend.
We had a really great time at Karen and Adam's apartment. Studio is equipped literally with everything that might be necessary (towels, kitchenware, restaurant-guides etc). Although we did't meet Karen, we got all the information, she was very quick with responses and we got detailed instructions from Adam, thanks a lot for that! The place itself is cozy, comfortable, very clean, and very convenient for parking a car. The only tiny thing that could be a bit better is slow Internet connection, everything else was great! Unfortunately we couldn't enjoy the patio as the weather was pretty cool. The neighborhood is nice, 5-7 min walk to 1,2,3 trains and 4,5,6, supermarkets, delis and restaurants are just around the corner .
All in all we're absolutely satisfied with our stay in Karen and Adam's place and would be glad to stay again some time!
Staying in Karen's studio was lovely. It is adorable and immaculate, with a lovely private patio. The apartment is conveniently located near the 2/3 and 4/5/6 trains, and Karen had some great suggestions for places to eat nearby. Karen was very accommodating of the fact that we needed to check in early and check out late. She also had lots of yummy snacks and beverages in the kitchen for us. Highly recommend.
This is a great place to stay for a visit to NYC. Harlem is much more relaxed and open then midtown Manhattan and there's a nice walk to a couple of different subway stations that will take you directly to Times Square among other places. Karen is very welcoming and provides a wealth of information about great places in the surrounding area: restaurants, groceries, deli, laundry, anything you could want.
We are young family that loves living in the city, I have lived here for over 19 years. My Husband and I are both originally from Miami, FL. We just adore Manhattan. Our children go to school in different sections of the city and play sports all over the Metro Area. I raced sailboats in the area for over 15 years and my husband played Rugby locally and in the Midwest & FL. We have very diverse interests and friends in the city, chefs , food writers , healthcare professionals.. in addition we have done alot of the Renovation on the building ourselves- so if you like a well rounded family to meet that do a little bit of everything in the city - we are it!
