Private, Large Room+Bath in Ballard

House - Private room · 18th Ave, Seattle, WA 98117, United States

Large bedroom suite in daylight basement with small refrigerator/microwave/induction cooktop/electric kettle outside room and exclusive guest bathroom.

The Space

What you'll enjoy by staying here:
+ a large (17.5 x 10.5 feet), quiet, very private guest bedroom in our daylight basement.
+ exclusive access to a full bathroom on the same level as the guest bedroom. bathroom includes hair dryer, shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, lotion and towels for your convenience.
+ a very comfortable queen bed with pillow top mattress and quality down comforter.
+ a full-size comfortable couch with down and foam cushions (with cushions removed, the couch makes a comfy bed for anyone 5'7" or shorter, or side sleepers, and can serve as a bed for a third guest, if needed).
+ a small laptop with a guest account and reliable, high speed WiFi.
+ a large selection of magazines and books - both focused on Seattle travel and fiction/non-fiction - for your reading enjoyment.
+ plenty of accessible, free parking (both on street and in the driveway).
+ a chest of drawers and hanging rod in case you'd like to unpack your bags.
+ a small kitchenette area featuring a small refrigerator, microwave, electric kettle, induction cook top, and dishes that you may use if you want to easily prepare light snacks; however, you can also use our kitchen and gas grill if you want to cook a more ambitious meal. Complimentary coffee/tea is also provided...we also generally provide some fruit and cereal for a light breakfast.

Our house is occupied by a married couple and three dogs; however, the guest bedroom has always been animal-free and the dogs are kept primarily on the main level away from guest amenities.

Guest Access

The basement level has a separate access and includes all of the necessities needed for a comfortable stay; however, guests are welcome to share any of the following features of our home with us:
+ Large full kitchen, dishes and cookware on the main level
+ Living room, which includes a piano and a cast iron stove (to keep the home cozy during the winter months
+ Media room with television (including Apple TV and Netflix), stereo, and Wii. We hardly ever use the TV, so access to the media room, (located adjacent to the guest bedroom) generally will be available as another private room for guests. The TV is HDMI-compatible, so if you'd like to hook up your computer and watch something from the internet, you're welcome to do so.
+ Large, private, fenced backyard with outdoor dining and two-person hammock in case you would like to relax outside.
+ Laundry facilities are also available to longer term guests who are in need.

Interaction with Guests

Tom is a Seattle-area native, and Corinne has lived here for nearly 20 years, so we're happy to provide local tips and advice, if guests are looking for recommendations. We both have traveled quite a bit and are also big fans of being AirBnB guests ourselves because we enjoy having the opportunity to chat with other travelers. However, if guests are too busy having fun to chat, or would prefer more privacy, our guest facilities will be a great choice since the guest bedroom, bathroom and kitchenette are on a separate floor from our main living space; furthermore, the stairs between the two floors are separated by a door, so if you're not a fan of dogs, you don't have too worry about one of our dogs intruding in your space. Guests can also use a separate entry to enter the guest quarters if they choose.

The Neighborhood

Much like New York City, Seattle is a city of neighborhoods, each with its own distinct personality. We live in Ballard, which has been called "the most soulful" neighborhood in Seattle. We think of it as the 21st arrondissement of Paris: the Farmers Market, the boutiques, the little coffee bars and boîtes. Our house is located one mile north of historic Ballard, close enough for a leisurely walk through this quaint, friendly neighborhood, and yet, far enough away to park easily and sleep undisturbed from others coming and going from all of the wonderful restaurants and bars this neighborhood has to offer!

More info about Ballard:
+ a 5-minute drive from Golden Gardens beach (with amazing sunset views of Elliot Bay and the Olympic Mountains)
+ a 20-minute drive from downtown (or, a 30-minute bus ride if you'd prefer to avoid the expense of parking)
+ a charming neighborhood, home to dozens of quaint boutiques, coffee shops, restaurants featuring many different types of cuisines (French, Mediterranean, Greek, German, Thai, Vietnamese, Mexican, Puerto Rican, Japanese/Sushi, Chinese, Italian, English pub food, and many seafood options), parks, a theatre, salons/spa, grocery stores, a wonderful Sunday Farmers' Market and countless conveniences (be sure to check our Guidebook link at the upper right for some of our favorite recommendations).

Getting around

Old Ballard, the historic neighborhood is nearby our house, only a 15-20 walk, or a 5-minute drive away, so the vibrant night-life is nearby even though our house is located in a quiet neighborhood.

Public Transport:
+ Our house is located 3 blocks away from the bus to downtown Seattle in 20-30 minutes (on the #15, #18, or RapidRide D lines) - schedules can be found here on the Metro King County site.
+ From the airport, SeaTac, you can take the Link Light Rail for about $2.50 and 40-minute ride to Westlake Center in downtown Seattle. We recommend a cab from there, as it will only be about $10 and a bit easier than the city bus if you have luggage. Once you book, we supply you with all the details for a smooth arrival!

  • Corinne and Tom's basement guest space is just fabulous. So cozy and welcoming, with every thoughtful touch. Comfortable bed, well-stocked kitchenette, full bathroom with a great shower head and toiletries provided, etc. A livingroom space is also included, complete with board games, seattle guides, TV and a pretty fish tank!

The neighborhood is quiet, clean, very walkable and close to several little cafés, pubs, etc. Corinne created a helpful list of places with descriptions that is available for reference in the bedroom.

Our stay there was perfect and the care Corinne and Tom put into their guests' comfort and enjoyment is very evident! Thanks, guys!

  • This was my first booking through AirBnB, so I appreciated Corinne's timely and clear communication with me. Corinne and Tom were friendly and welcoming hosts. The house is located in a quiet neighbourhood and is close to a bus stop, which made travel to downtown Seattle very convenient. The guest suite was clean and comfortable. The bathroom was immaculate. My friend and I definitely enjoyed our stay here.

  • The space was fantastic! Corinne has a great eye for decor and has created a space that is aesthetically pleasing and entertaining. She has thought of every possible need for the traveler and provided appropriately. Very hospitable and friendly as her four legged friends are great greeters. The room is very clean, inviting and private. I would definitely contact Corinne to request another stay.

  • Corinne was a warm and inviting host and her personal touches to enliven the space were found everywhere. And, wow, the new private bathroom is awesome. We found getting around Seattle was easy from this Ballard site and it was nice coming back to a 'less traveled' area after a day in the city. Looking forward to meeting Tom next visit. Thanks Corinne.

  • Corinne and Tom are great hosts, and I really enjoyed their space. A very comfortable room, great location, a wonderful experience. They provided maps and tips for the city, which were a great help in finding my way around and places to eat/visit. Will definitely check them out again when I head back to Seattle.

  • Staying with Corrine in Seattle was awesome! Corrine is very thoughtful, and even with my miscommunication about check in (totally my fault) she was very understanding. The private entrance to the room was easy to find and provided plenty of privacy. The location is wonderful, near all of the fabulous things in Ballard, including Honore Bakery (yummy!) We had the pleasure of meeting Corrine the next morning during our checkout, along with her adorable dogs. We would definitely stay here again the next time we are in Seattle. =)

Hello, My husband and I have used AirBnB as guests as well as serving as hosts. We first stayed at an AirBnB location in Sydney, Australia, while on our honeymoon in 2012, and were so impressed with our experience that we are now hooked! Not only are the AirBnB properties a good value, but more importantly, we have had lovely interactions with each of the hosts of locations where we've stayed, which now include a few locations in Portland, Bend, San Francisco, Baltimore, and Miami as well. Since we had such great experiences as guests, we decided to start hosting last summer and listed our guest room on AirBnB. Hosting has proven to be a fantastic experience since we are both seasoned travellers and enjoy chatting with others about their travels, etc. As far as demographics go, we are both in our mid-forties, have travelled all around the country (and the world) and are also are very tidy and respectful. Beyond travelling, we like listening to live music, exploring neighborhoods, having fun with our dogs, gardening and cooking great food, spending time near the water/beach, and meeting new people.
