What you'll enjoy by staying here:
+ a large (17.5 x 10.5 feet), quiet, very private guest bedroom in our daylight basement.
+ exclusive access to a full bathroom on the same level as the guest bedroom. bathroom includes hair dryer, shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, lotion and towels for your convenience.
+ a very comfortable queen bed with pillow top mattress and quality down comforter.
+ a full-size comfortable couch with down and foam cushions (with cushions removed, the couch makes a comfy bed for anyone 5'9" or shorter, or taller side sleepers, and can serve as a bed for a third guest, if needed).
+ a small laptop with a guest account and reliable, high speed WiFi.
+ a large selection of magazines and books - both focused on Seattle travel and fiction/non-fiction - for your reading enjoyment.
+ plenty of accessible, free parking (both on street and in the driveway).
+ a chest of drawers and hanging rod in case you'd like to unpack your bags.
+ a small kitchenette area featuring a small refrigerator, microwave, electric kettle, induction cook top, and dishes that you may use if you want to easily prepare light snacks (complimentary coffee/tea and oatmeal are also provided). However, this is not a full kitchen, so there is not oven or kitchen sink. (We ask that guests leave their dirty dishes in a bus tub, so that we can get the dishes and wash them for you while they are out). If you have a desire to cook a more ambitious meal, we are happy to share our kitchen or gas grill as long as you contact us to make arrangements.
+ Note - the basement guest room is not suited for very tall people since the ceiling height is 6' 3".
Our house is occupied by a married couple and three dogs; however, the guest bedroom has always been animal-free and the dogs are kept primarily on the main level away from guest amenities.
The basement level has a separate access and includes all necessities needed for a comfortable stay; however, guests are welcome to share any of the following features of our home with us:
+ Media room with television (including Apple TV and Netflix), stereo, and Wii. We hardly ever use the TV, so access to the media room, (located adjacent to the guest bedroom) generally will be available as another private room for guests. The TV is HDMI-compatible, so if you'd like to hook up your computer and watch something from the internet, you're welcome to do so.
+ Large, private, fenced backyard with outdoor dining and two-person hammock in case you would like to relax outside.
+ Laundry facilities are also available to guests staying 4 or more days.
Interaction with Guests
Tom is a Seattle-area native, and Corinne has lived here for nearly 20 years, so we're happy to provide local tips and advice, if guests are looking for recommendations. We both have traveled quite a bit and are also big fans of being AirBnB guests ourselves because we enjoy having the opportunity to chat with other travelers. However, if guests are too busy having fun to chat, or would prefer more privacy, our guest facilities will be a great choice since the guest bedroom, bathroom and kitchenette are on a separate floor from our main living space; furthermore, the stairs between the two floors are separated by a door, so if you're not a fan of dogs, you don't have too worry about one of our dogs intruding in your space. Guests also have a separate entry to enter the guest quarters from our back yard.
Much like New York City, Seattle is a city of neighborhoods, each with its own distinct personality. We live in Ballard, which has been called "the most soulful" neighborhood in Seattle. We think of it as the 21st arrondissement of Paris: the Farmers Market, the boutiques, the little coffee bars and boîtes. Our house is located one mile north of historic Ballard, close enough for a leisurely walk through this quaint, friendly neighborhood, and yet, far enough away to park easily and sleep undisturbed from others coming and going from all of the wonderful restaurants and bars this neighborhood has to offer!
More info about Ballard:
+ a 5-minute drive from Golden Gardens beach (with amazing sunset views of Elliot Bay and the Olympic Mountains)
+ a 20-minute drive from downtown (or, a 30-minute bus ride if you'd prefer to avoid the expense of parking)
+ a charming neighborhood, home to dozens of quaint boutiques, coffee shops, restaurants featuring many different types of cuisines (French, Mediterranean, Greek, German, Thai, Vietnamese, Mexican, Puerto Rican, Japanese/Sushi, Chinese, Italian, English pub food, and many seafood options), parks, a theatre, salons/spa, grocery stores, a wonderful Sunday Farmers' Market and countless conveniences (be sure to check our Guidebook link at the upper right for some of our favorite recommendations).
Old Ballard, the historic neighborhood is nearby our house, only a 15-20 walk, or a 5-minute drive away, so the vibrant night-life is nearby even though our house is located in a quiet neighborhood.
+ Our house is located 3 blocks away from the bus to downtown Seattle in 20-30 minutes (on the #15, #18, or RapidRide D lines) - schedules can be found here on the Metro King County site.
+ From the airport, SeaTac, you can take the Link Light Rail for about $2.50 and 40-minute ride to Westlake Center in downtown Seattle. We recommend a cab from there, as it will only be about $10 and a bit easier than the city bus if you have luggage. Once you book, we supply you with all the details for a smooth arrival!
Other Things to Note
Guests who are staying 4 nights or more are invited to use our laundry facilities free of charge; however, we ask that you limit your laundry use to 2 loads per week. Short term guests (1-2 nights) who need to use the laundry facilities can do so at a charge of $3 per load. Please don't start any laundry before 10:30 p.m.
We are happy to share the back deck and backyard common areas with our guest. We also have a secured garage if you need to store a bike or two.
Guests who stay with us should be comfortable using stairs. There are 4 stairs up to the guest entrance, and 10 stairs down to the basement apartment.
We do not allow smoking indoors; however, there is a fenced yard and a covered front porch where people can smoke.
Check out time is set at noon to get ready for incoming guests. Most of the time we can work something out if you need a late check out, but check with us first to be sure we don't have anyone coming that afternoon.
- Be kind to the apartment - we don't charge a cleaning fee for your benefit, so please reciprocate.
- Quiet time 11 pm - 7 am, but you can come and go as you please. We live above the apartment, but won't hear you as long as don't yell or don't blast the TV volume.
- No unapproved guests or illegal drugs
- Be sure to close and lock the back gate behind you (our dogs need to stay in the yard)
We returned to Corrine and Tom's house for one last night before our departure flight back to Madison...We were gone only 4 nights and I should have put a note on the bed not to change the sheets! Everything perfect once more. Tom caught us as we were leaving to make our acquaintance a really great guy! We will be back! My daughter and her boyfriend will be recommending Corinne and Tom's place to their other out of town visitors...Thanks again!
Chocolates on the pillow. Spotlessly clean, clear instructions. Beautiful gardens!!1 Our privacy was totally respected. Look forward to staying again.
Corinne's room/basement was a great escape. It's a great cozy escape in the middle of a quiet neighborhood that my wife and I really enjoyed staying in. I'd highly recommend this place to others.
There was some noise from their dogs running around upstairs in the evening, but other than that it was perfect night away.
Corinne and Tom have created a very comfortable place for any traveler. The neighborhood is charming, the home is decorated with local class and we were overjoyed to get a good night sleep. The heart of Ballard is very close by so we were able to have a fabulous dinner and catch a show at a local club. This was our first time using Airbnb, so we were nervous, but when we entered the home we were immediately put at ease by how clean and thoughtful the space was for guests. There were even chocolates on our pillow! It was an all around delightful and memorable stay in Seattle.
Perfectly comfortable with every amenity we needed. The space was clean, and cozy and just what we had hoped for. Thank you!
Corrine was extremely warm and welcoming towards us. The listing exceeded our expectations and I found the space to be eclectic, fun, clean, and warm. We would definitely recommend staying with Corrine and Tom. they were more than accommodating :)
Perfect landing spot for me. Tom greeted me at my car, helped with my luggage and made sure I was fully familiar with the room. Actually the entire lower level. Wonderful location, very comfortable, spacious and great amenities. Would stay again without hesitation.

We are avid Airbnb guests as well as hosts. We first stayed at an Airbnb location in Sydney, Australia, while honeymooning in January 2012, and were so impressed with our experience that we are now hooked! Not only are the Airbnb properties a good value, but more importantly, we have had amazing interactions with each of the hosts at locations where we've stayed, which now have expanded beyond Sydney, AU, to include a few locations in our home state of Washington as well as cities such as Portland and Bend, Oregon, San Francisco and Sonora, CA, Baltimore, Miami, and New York City and Ithaca, NY. We've been a guest in 16 different Airbnb locations over the past 3 years. In fact, I can't remember the last time we stayed at a conventional hotel!
Since we had such great experiences as guests, we decided to start hosting in the summer of 2012 and listed our guest room on Airbnb. Hosting has proven to be a fantastic experience since we are both seasoned travelers and enjoy chatting with others about their travels, etc.
In terms of demographics, we are both in our mid-forties, have traveled all around the country (and the world) and are also are very tidy and respectful. Beyond travelling, we like listening to live music, exploring neighborhoods, having fun with our dogs, gardening and cooking great food, spending time near the water/beach, and meeting new people.
