Casale di Cellole is a restored farmhouse in the heart of the Chianti region. Less than six miles from Siena, it is located on a hill near the cloisters known locally as Certosa di Pontignano. The complex is made up of a main house and several barns spread out among the olive groves, vineyards and woods, which are home to deer, pheasants and hares
The farmhouse is divided into four apartments: the home of the owner and three other apartments named River, Zoo, and Moon.
The "Moon" apartment enjoy a splendid view of the surrounding landscape. A stone staircase that is located inside the main courtyard, leads in the apartment.
Once you reach the top of the stairs, a small landing gives access to the lounge overlooking the courtyard with a fireplace, a sofa, a dining area and a fully equipped kitchen.
Moon has two double bedrooms, each with its own private bathroom (one with bath, one with shower). The window of each room overlooks the garden and the surrounding hills.
Outside, the large garden full of flowers houses a use of the apartment, with a table for lunches and dinners, and spaces for resting and relaxation. An ancient stone basin has been transformed into a small communal pool that offers refreshment during the hot summer days.
We had a wonderful stay at Casale di Cellole! We stayed for two weeks and could have easily stayed much longer. Our hosts Elisa and Alessandro were absolutely amazing!! Even stopping by with fresh figs from their tree for our breakfast! They are such a kind family and accommodated our every request. During our initial contact I asked Elisa if she had a baby cot for our 4 month old and when we arrived it was all set up with sheets and ready to go. Also we asked them about booking a Winery tour and their suggestion was perfect!! Not to mention they booked it for us as well. We really felt like this was our home away from home and they treated us as though we were part of their family.
We stayed at the Moon apartment and it was just as the pictures show. The eclectic mix of furniture and antiques are really well thought out. The bathrooms are very fresh and bright with plenty of light from the skylights.
The Kitchen was very well appointed with everything we needed to cook including a corkscrew.
There is even a charcoal BBQ. We went to the local butcher and bought some steaks and used some of the rosemary and sage that grows all over the property to flavor the meat. It turned out perfectly!
The location and views were even better than expected. Just the sound of the crickets at night. With stunning sunsets and sunrises. So incredibly peaceful. We are already planning our next trip back!!!
Elisa is a fantastic host! There was lots of good communication from the time of our initial enquiry and a few days before arriving Elisa informed us that River, the property we originally wanted, was available again which made us very happy.
On the day of our arrival a dodgy GPS in our rental car meant that we ended up arriving more than an hour later than our estimated time but Elisa welcomed us with a huge smile and gave us a tour of her beautiful property (which is Instagram heaven!).
River is gorgeous and just as it looks in the photos. The eclectic mix of furniture has a very stylish Scandinavian feel and although there isn't any air conditioning, the large airy rooms with their high ceilings stayed surprisingly cool, providing welcome relief from the scorching Tuscan sun (the swimming pool is the other great option!). The outdoor areas and gardens offer a mix of spaces to relax and enjoy a wine and no matter where you choose to park yourself the view from the elevated location is spectacular, especially at sunset!
After three hectic weeks covering Paris, London, Rome and the Palio in Siena we were looking forward to a few chilled days in the Tuscan countryside and that's exactly what Elisa's property delivered. The silence was absolute bliss and it was great to shop at the local grocer and cook for ourselves (for the first time in our trip). It was also lovely to meet Elisa's husband Alessandro, who is just as warm and friendly, and their gorgeous little girls.
We had a wonderful time and will definitely stay here again.
My friends and I rented three of the four apartments at Casale di Cellole while we were in Tuscany for a colleague's wedding. I stayed in "Moon". I cannot say enough about this place. The setting is to die for, the apartments stylish and chic, and the bathrooms were recently remodeled which was nice to have a clean, modern shower, etc. which was just as nice, if not nicer, than in a hotel.
Elisa and her husband were gracious hosts. Organized but super casual and made us feel right at home.
I would recommend this place to anybody looking for a true Tuscan experience. It was also nice to have the pool to enjoy on hot days.
This would be a beautiful location for a small wedding and have all of your friends in the same location.
Very close to Sienna too, a gorgeous city.
I could go on and on. I really can't say enough great things about this place. It was my first airbnb experience and I couldn't have been happier.
